Abstract
The dynamic nature of today’s manufacturing industry, which is caused by the intense global competition and constant technological advancements, requires systems that are highly adaptive and responsive to demand fluctuations. Reconfigurable manufacturing systems (RMS) enable such responsiveness through their main characteristics. This paper addresses the problem of RMS configuration design, where the demand of a single product varies throughout its production life cycle, and the system configuration must change accordingly to satisfy the required demand with minimum cost. Abstract
Intense global competition, dynamic product variations, and rapid technological developments force manufacturing systems to adapt and respond quickly to various changes in the market. Such responsiveness could be achieved through new paradigms such as Reconfigurable manufacturing systems (RMS). In this paper, the problem of configuration design for a scalable reconfigurable RMS that produces different products of a part family is addressed. In order to handle demand fluctuations of products throughout their lifecycles with minimum cost, RMS configurations must change as well. Two different approaches are developed for addressing the system configuration design in different periods. Both...

Abstract
The principal intention of this work is to fabricate and characterize the polyamide/chitosan nanocomposite by a novel single solvent method through the electrospinning procedure. The thermal properties and morphology of prepared nanocomposite are studied by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM). TGA exposed that the primary decomposition temperature is reduced with rising of chitosan content in the nanocomposites and origin disintegration temperature for polyamide/chitosan nanocomposites is perceived to be in the range from 300 to 500 °C. Also, FE-SEM images demonstrated that the nanofibers of chitosan have good adhesion on the matrix and...

Abstract
Potassium fluoride supported on alumina efficiently catalyzes Michael addition of aromatic and aliphatic thiols to a variety of conjugated alkenes such as α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds, carboxylic esters, amides, nitriles and chalcones. The Michael adducts are produced in good to excellent yields and relatively in short times. The catalyst can be recycled for subsequent reactions without any appreciable loss of efficiency. Improving the mechanical characteristics of semi-rigid saddle connections
, Article Journal of Constructional Steel Research ; Volume 186 , 2021 ; 0143974X (ISSN) ; Sadrara, A ; Sharif University of Technology
Elsevier Ltd
2021
Abstract
There are many steel structures in Iran with semi-rigid saddle connections. It has been observed that, during a strong earthquake, this type of connection can experience a premature fracture, which will endanger the stability of the structure. The present study endeavored to improve the mechanical characteristics including the initial stiffness, yield moment, maximum moment, crack rotation, and load transfer mechanisms of the conventional saddle connections using retrofitting methods. An experimental study was conducted on six full-scale specimens to study the effect of the retrofitting methods on the stiffness, yield moment, and maximum moment of the connection and for the prevention of...

Abstract
Saddle connections are semi-rigid connections that are widely used in Iran. Many existing buildings contain this type of connection. The present study conducted full-scale experiments and used extensive numerical modeling to study the mechanical characteristics of saddle connections. The mechanical characteristics examined were the moment-transfer mechanism, initial stiffness, yield moment, maximum moment, and fracture rotation. The configuration and dimensions of the experimental and numerical specimens were chosen to be similar to those of saddle connections in existing buildings. A parametric study was conducted to determine the factors affecting the mechanical characteristics of these...

Abstract
Motivated by surface plasmon polariton waveguides in the optical regime, spoof surface plasmon (SSP) waveguides have received a lot of attention in terahertz and millimeter wave frequencies. Most research on these kinds of waveguides is numerical. However, some limited analytical work can be seen in the literature. In this paper, one type of SSP waveguide that is composed of a rectangular corrugation with finite lateral width on the ground is considered, and an analytical method, which is inspired byMarcatili's method, is proposed in order to calculate the dispersion curve of the first mode. The results of this analytical method and a numerical commercial eigenmode solver are compared. The...

Abstract
Abstract: In the present paper, an efficient Cu-catalyzed regioselective acylation of indoles with phenylglyoxals was developed which is the first example of indolyl diketones synthesis by a heterogeneous catalyst. The magnetic polyacrylonitrile was synthesized through anchoring acrylonitrile monomers on Fe3O4 nanoparticles surface and then modified with 2-aminopyridine. At the final step, copper nanoparticles were immobilized onto the polymeric support containing stable ligands from functionalized nitrile groups of polyacrylonitrile. The different techniques such as Fourier transmission infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, Field emission scanning electron microscopy, Transmission...

Abstract
This paper analyzes the second-order mode of the spoof surface plasmon (SSP) waveguide, which consists of PEC pillars (dominos) with finite lateral widths on a PEC ground. The space is first divided into four regions. The electromagnetic fields of each region are then written as TE and TM. The boundary conditions and matching integrals are employed to determine the dispersion relations of the second-order mode of the SSP waveguide consisting of two relations. Inspired by Marcatili's method, the analytical approach is to develop a recently-used method for the first mode of the SSP waveguide. The dispersion relations are then solved; therefore, the dispersion curve is plotted. The analytical...

Abstract
In this article, behavior of cantilever retaining walls with various flexibilities, which retain saturated cohesive soil behind, is studied using numerical modeling. Generally, pattern of lateral earth pressure behind retaining walls is complex and this complexity becomes greater for clayey soils. In this investigation, effects of different wall bending stiffnesses, and backfill drainage conditions on the failure height and on the lateral earth pressure are investigated using finite elements. Comparison between the obtained results from numerical simulation and those based on empirical or conventional design methods indicate that soil-structure interaction and c drainage conditions play...

Abstract
An efficient one-pot, three-component synthesis of novel dispiro[oxindole-3,3′-pyrrolidines] by 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of azomethine ylides, in situ generated by reaction of 1,2-diones with sarcosine and subsequent decarboxylation, with a series of (E)-3-benzylidene-2,3-dihydro- 1H-indol-2-ones is reported. Molecular complexity is generated in only one synthetic step. All reactions proceed with excellent regioselectivity and in good-to-excellent yields. The workup is easy, the reaction times are short, and no catalyst is required. © 2013 Verlag Helvetica Chimica Acta AG, Zürich

, Article Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part L: Journal of Materials: Design and Applications ; Volume 227, Issue 2 , November , 2013 , Pages 100-110 ; 14644207 (ISSN) ; Ahmadian, M. T ; Kheradpisheh, A ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
In this article, the propagation of one-dimensional stress waves in a plate made of functionally graded materials excited by a harmonic force is studied. The material properties of the functionally graded material plate are assumed to be graded in the thickness direction according to a power law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents. The governing equations are based on stress-strain relation and the equation of motion. Keeping generality, the functionally graded material plate is assumed as a multilayer with linear material property in each layer while arbitrary exponential material property through the thickness. A plate made of aluminum and alumina is...
