Abstract
The preheating system is regarded as an integral part of a natural-gas pressure reduction station (NGPRS) when a turbo-expander is substituted with regulators. In this paper, two configurations are compared for optimal designing preheating system used in NGPRS with the turbo-expander system. The first case uses water for a hot fluid that is warmed in the gas-fired heater (GFH), and the second is a Waste Heat Recovery (WHR) configuration. Multi-objective optimization and multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) methods are implemented to identify the optimal design of mentioned preheating systems and to acquire the ability for the designer to select the optimal solution readily. The total cost...

Abstract
Heaters are one of the central parts of natural gas reduction stations using turboexpanders to prevent the formation of hydrate and corrosion failure. This study intends to design a fired heater by applying a combustion sub-model to derive an optimal model for this kind of application. This model is developed to accurately consider all subsections of the fired heater namely radiation, convection, and shield sections, as well as flue gas composition, and its volume. Within this context, a multi-objective optimization is employed to identify the optimal design of the gas-fired heater in the natural gas reduction station for the Ramin power plant case study. The total economic and environmental...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Boroushaki, Mehrdad (Supervisor) ; Rajabi, Abbas (Co-Advisor)
Abstract
Recently, a lot of attention has been devoted to the use of Darrieus wind turbines because of high power density and environment aspect in urban areas. Turbine airflows don’t effect on the power coefficient of Darrieus turbine. This turbine has an acceptable power coefficient depend on the other wind turbine in the small scale turbine. Aerodynamic performance of a Darrieus turbine is very complex due to phenomena such as dynamic stall and changing forces on the turbine caused by changing horizontal angles. So study airflows around turbine must be preformed. In this thesis the aerodynamics of an H-rotor vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT) has been studied using computational fluid dynamics in...

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Durali, Mohammad (Supervisor)
Abstract
Fatigue crack is one of the most important causes of defect for gear systems. This effect results tooth fracture and failure of other elements of the power transmission systems. As a result, much effort has been devoted to the modeling of fatigue crack and improving the methods of crack detection. Simulations of three dimensional crack growth in spur gears due to misalignment and examination of this effect on vibration response of gear system are the main goals of this research. To model the crack growth, a new method of gear meshing modeling was proposed. In this method, the effects of pinion on the gear and vice-versa are modeled by a finite set of virtual interconnected springs. The...

Abstract
Switched Reluctance Motors (SRMs) are widely used in high-speed and low voltage applications because of their attractive features such as robustness and simplicity. No winding on the rotor of this type of motors allows reaching high speed which is desired for many applications. Drive circuits of SRMs also play an important role in their performance and operation. In this paper, a new bifilar drive circuit for this type of motors has been proposed. This novel configuration has been tested and investigated by PSIM software. Results show that the new bifilar drive circuit highly reduces the voltage stresses on semiconductor switches, and also considerably reduces the switching losses which are...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ghofrani, Mohammad Bagher (Supervisor)
Abstract
Identification of different hazards in a UF6 production process, and evaluation of the risk originated from these hazards is the main objective of this project. A number of hazards are present in a typical UF6 production process, such as leakage of chemical gases like HF and F2 and also radioactive UF6 gas release. In order to evaluate risk due to these hazards, probabilistic approach has been used. Due to lack of probabilistic safety criteria (PSC) for chemical releases, only for UF6 gas release risk assessment has been done. As a first step in PSA of this process eight groups of initiating events have been identified using HAZOP study, and for each initiating event, event tree analysis...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Manzuri, Mohammad Taghi (Supervisor)
Abstract
One of the major problems encountered in artificial intelligence is environment interaction. A sensible way for around-interaction is to collect information from sensors and make proper reactions. Generally, in the real world, an intelligent agent needs to know its pose. There are several ways to know the pose of an agent. One of them is based on the fusion of the output of an inertial sensor with the information retrieved from a camera. This leads to enhance the estimation of the pose of an agent. In this research different solutions for this problem are compared. Studies are done with the goal of attitude detection for vehicles and mini-robots, moving on planar surface. For this end, we...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ebrahimi, Abbas (Supervisor)
Abstract
It is necessary to evaluate the effect of the lifting arms of VTOL UAVs in increasing the drag of UAV and reducing the flight endurance of the cruise phase. In this study, the adverse effect of the lifting subsystem and its accessories on reducing the aerodynamic efficiency of the wing and optimizing its design for the cruise phase is studied. The base UAV is an integrated wing-body drone with a 2.12 m wing span, 7 kg maximum take-off weight and with about 65 km / h horizontal flight speed. To investigate the possibility of reducing the adverse aerodynamic effect of the arms of the lifting system, different positions are selected in terms of the geometric dimensions of the arms and their...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Morad, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
Abstract
Electrospray, as a novel and efficient method in jet production, utilizes a combination of hydrodynamic and electrostatic forces. In electrohydrodynamic systems, by controlling effective parameters, it is possible to achieve a wide range of fluid flow regimes. Among these, the stable cone-jet mode has attracted special attention from researchers due to its stability and controllability characteristics. The unique features of this mode include uniformity in droplet size resulting from jet breakup (which is effective in reducing temperature gradients on hot surfaces), the ability to control fluid flow characteristics through adjustable parameters such as electrical voltage, and spray...

Abstract
This article presents a method for determination of meshing force distribution on contact region of spur gear teeth. In this method it is assumed that there are inter-connected springs on the teeth profile. These springs treat as capacitive fields. The compliance matrices of these fields are determined from the results of finite element analysis done on 3-D model of a gear. The tooth compliance matrix is used as a reference data to determine the tooth deformations for any meshing situation. The meshing force distribution is calculated using this reference data and Hertz theory for contacting bodies. The results of this analysis help in stress analysis under real operation conditions and more...

Abstract
This article presents a routine for prediction of the crack growth path in gears. Crack simulation helps in determining failure modes and crack detecting by vibration monitoring. To simulate crack propagation an effective method is developed by which the meshing force is calculated based on the compliance of meshing teeth in every stage of crack growth. In this method the compliance matrix of the tooth is calculated using three-dimensional boundary element analysis without the need for simultaneously modelling two meshing gears. The force distribution on the contact area is then calculated using Hertz theory and compliance matrices of meshing teeth. The method is used in prediction of the...

Abstract
This paper discusses the determination of the transition curves for a pair of spur gear with coulomb friction. Transition curves are the loci of periodic response of parametrically excited systems and separate the stable and unstable solutions. A discrete model of a pair of spur gear is developed and the friction forces are calculated base on instantaneous dynamic force between gear teeth. The dynamic equation of the system is a linear ordinary differential equation with periodic coefficients. Periodic friction torque, as the parametric excitation is represented by Fourier series. The loci of periodic solutions are determined in μ - Γ plane (coefficient of friction-contact ratio) by strained...
