Abstract
Considering the risk of infection in surgeries, maintaining an acceptable indoor air quality in Operating Rooms (ORs) to ensure the health and safety of patients and surgical team is very essential. Since air ow is one of the primary mechanisms for transmitting infections and pollution, it is crucial to examine the air distribution systems in the ORs. In the present study, the e ect of Turbulent and Laminar Air ow (TAF/ LAF) systems on the air and CO2 distribution in an OR was examined. The e ects of inlet and outlet con gurations were evaluated for seven di erent models. The results indicate that the LAF systems are superior to TAF systems. Based on the ndings, the LAF with the air curtain...

Abstract
Table forms are highly flexible and mobile form systems for beams and slabs. In this system, the components with standard dimensions are fabricated in production plants, transported to construction sites and assembled for final use. Then, based on the plan of the floor zone to be constructed and location of columns, beams, and openings, the assembled tables are placed next to each other and the gaps are covered to provide a perfect surface for concrete casting. However, since the tables are rectangular with standard dimensions, even the best layout does not guarantee the full coverage of the area with tables. The more the uncovered areas are, the more the extra formwork cost and required...

Abstract
Electricity load forecasting plays an important role for optimal power system operation. Accordingly, short term load forecast (STLF) is also becoming an important task by researchers to tackle the mentioned problem. As a consequence of the highly non-smooth and volatile trend of the load time series specially in building levels, its STLF is even a more complex procedure than that of a power system. For this purpose, in this paper we proposed a new prediction model based on a new feature selection algorithm and hybrid forecast engine of enhanced version of empirical mode decomposition named sliding window EMD bundled with an intelligent algorithm. Abstract
Renewable energies could be a good solution to the problems associated with fossil fuels. The storage of wind energy by means of small-scale devices rather than large-scale turbines is a topic that has gained lots of interest. In this study, a compact device is proposed to harvest wind energy and transform it into electrical energy, by means of oscillations of a magnet into a coil, using the concept of vortex-induced vibration (VIV) behind a barrier. For a more comprehensive investigation, this system is studied from two viewpoints of fluid mechanics (without magnet) and power generation (with the magnet). For this purpose, an oscillating plate hinging on one side and three barriers with...

Abstract
Flow turbulators have promising heat transfer applications. Here, the novel design proposed in our previous study (vibrational ball turbulators, VBTs, mounted on an elastic wire inside a circular tube) is investigated experimentally from heat transfer and thermal performance standpoints. The effects of diameter (Y) and longitudinal distance (pitch, X) ratios of VBTs, the Reynolds number, and the axial tension of the wire (σ0) on the average Nusselt number (Nu), the average Nusselt number ratio (Nu divided by that of a plain tube, Nup), the friction factor ratio (f/fp), and a parameter called the thermal performance factor (η=(Nu/Nup)/(f/fp)1/3) are studied. Different ball diameter (Y=0.3,...

Abstract
This research studied the effect of adding TiO2 nanoparticles along with Al2O3 and Y2O3 additives on the physical and mechanical properties of a SiC-matrix composite. The samples were fabricated through a pressureless process at 1900 °C. The results showed that the addition of TiO2 nanoparticles up to 4.5 wt% inhibited the excessive growth of SiC grains. According to the investigations, the microstructure and final properties of composites were affected by density, synthesized phases as well as their distribution in the matrix, and grain size. The highest density, Young's modulus, hardness, indentation fracture resistance, and flexural strength, alongside with the lowest brittleness index...

Abstract
The effect of the hybrid suspension on the intrinsic characteristics of microencapsulated phase change material (MEPCM) slurry used as a coolant in counterflow microchannel heat exchanger (CFMCHE) with different velocities is investigated numerically. The working fluid used in this paper is a hybrid suspension consisting of nanoparticles and MEPCM particles, in which the particles are suspended in pure water as a base fluid. Two types of hybrid suspension are used (Al2O3 +MEPCM and Cu + MEPCM), and the hydrodynamic and thermal characteristics of these suspensions flowing in a CFMCHE are numerically investigated. The results indicated that using hybrid suspension with high flow velocities...

Abstract
Despite the fact that solid–liquid phase change materials (PCMs) have various applications in thermal energy storage systems, the low solidification rate of PCMs, which is due to the low thermal conductivity has limited the range of applications of PCMs. One of the methods of increasing the solidification rate of PCMs is using a boiling fluid as an intermediary between the solid–liquid PCM and the condenser to prevent the direct contact between the phase change material and the condenser tubes, this method is also known as the intermediate boiling fluid (IBF) method. The IBF method has been shown to significantly increase the solidification rate (2 orders of magnitude). In this study, the...

Abstract
Herein, we report a new strategy for improving the efficiency and reducing the fabrication cost of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs) by elimination of the three- or four-fold layer deposition of TiO2. This is performed by replacing a single layer deposition of mesoporous TiO2 beads, with sub-micrometer size, high surface area and tunable pore size, synthesized by a combination of sol-gel and solvothermal methods. Furthermore, superior electronic properties gained by a reduction in electronic trap states are achieved through doping of pristine TiO2 beads with lithium. The beads have a spherical shape with monodispersed texture consisting of anatase-TiO2 nanocrystals and ultra-fine pores. The...

Abstract
The low thermal conductivity of phase change materials has resulted in prolonged melting and freezing processes (charge and discharge) in these materials. This problem has limited the application of these materials in the field of thermal energy storage. In the present study, the effects of adding Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles at various concentrations as well as applying the magnetic field on the melting process of paraffin as phase change material have been experimentally studied. Thereupon, a cubic chamber in which the left wall applied a constant heat flux was used. At the optimum concentration of nanoparticles (1 mass%), the constant magnetic field with the intensities of 0.01 T and...

Abstract
In this research, it is investigated to numerically evaluate the performance of a polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC). The performance is investigated through the nonuniformity gradient loading at the catalyst layer (CL) of the considered PEMFC. Computational fluid dynamics is used to simulate a 2D domain in which a steady-state laminar compressible flow in two-phase for the PEMFC has been considered. In this case, a particular nonuniform variation inside the CL along the channel is assumed. The nonuniform gradient is created using a nonisothermal domain to predict the flooding effects on the performance of the PEMFC. The computational domain is considered as the cathode of PEMFC,...

Abstract
The anatase phase of titania was stabilised with physically modifying particulate sol-gel process. Two major parameters, peptisation temperature and drying temperature, were identified which were responsible for retarding the anatase to rutile phase transformation, crystal growth and packing of primary particles. The critical nucleus size of transformation was controlled by natural (at 25 °C) and artificial (at 50 and 70 °C) peptisation techniques. Moreover, sintering of primary particles was controlled by cool (at 0 and 5 °C) and normal (at 25 °C) drying techniques. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) analysis confirmed that a full conversion of titanium isopropoxide is obtained...
