In the context of peripheral nerve injuries treatment, self-electrical stimuli nerve guidance conduit is a promising technique. To fabricate such structures, PVDF-chitosan–gelatin was considered for the outside walls of conduit and gellan gum containing conductive polyaniline-graphene (PAG) nanocomposite particles in the middle. The main focus of this study is to address the possibility of using molecular dynamics (MD) simulation, as a computational framework, coupled with experimental assays, to optimize composite structures of a particular electrospun scaffold. To this aim, first, MD simulations were performed to obtain an initial theoretical insight into the capability of heterogeneous surfaces for protein adsorption. Abstract
We study the behavior of epidemic routing in a delay tolerant network as a function of node density. Focusing on the probability of successful delivery to a destination within a deadline (PS), we show that PS experiences a phase transition as node density increases. Specifically, we prove that PS exhibits a phase transition when nodes are placed according to a Poisson process and allowed to move according to independent and identical processes with limited speed. Abstract
This paper presents a new method for the design of variable fractional delay (VFD) FIR digital filters using Genetic Algorithm (GA). Each sub-filter of Farrow structure is designed individually with defined accuracy and bandwidth. A variable mutation probability is also employed, which improves the accuracy of the solution. Compared with existing methods, it reduces the computational complexity and enhances the design flexibility. Furthermore, a simple GA is used to compute the filter coefficients in canonic singed digit (CSD) representations. Bone And Site Hold Tendon Inside (BASHTI) implant-less technique is proposed as an alternative to conventional tendon repair methods. This study aims to evaluate the strength of this technique under biceps loading conditions with different xation strategies. Abstract
In this paper, the performance of traditional variance-based method for detection of epileptic seizures in EEG signals are compared with various methods based on nonlinear time series analysis, entropies, logistic regression, discrete wavelet transform and time frequency distributions. Quality of Experience (QoE) measures the overall quality of a service from users’ point of view by considering several system, human, and contextual factors. There exist various objective and subjective methods for QoE prediction. Although the subjective approach is more expensive and challenging than the objective approach, QoE’s level can be more accurately determined by a subjective test. This paper presents a proactive operation scheme for improving distribution system resiliency against natural hazards, specifically windstorms. In this context, important attributes associated with the windstorm consisting the distance from the windstorm route, the wind speed, the distance from tall trees and buildings, and cable type are used in a deep neural network (DNN) engine to identify the vulnerable branches and predict their failure during the windstorm. In this paper a new approach to accurately classify ECG arrhythmias through a combination of the wavelet transform and artificial neural network is presented. Three kinds of features in a very computationally efficient manner are computed as follows: 1-Joint time-frequency features (discrete wavelet transform coefficients). 2-Time domain features (R-R intervals). 3-Statistical feature (form factor). Abstract
We investigate systematically the spin-Nernst effect in Néel and zigzag ordered honeycomb antiferromagnets. Monolayers of transition-metal trichalcogenides, MnPSe3, MnPS3, and VPS3 show an antiferromagnetic Néel order while CrSiTe3, NiPS3, and NiPSe3 show an antiferromagnetic zigzag order. We extract the exchange and Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction parameters from ab initio calculations. Using these parameters, we predict that the spin-Nernst coefficient is at least two orders of magnitude larger in zigzag compared to the Néel ordered antiferromagnets. We theoretically investigate the magnetoelastic coupling (MEC) and its effect on magnon transport in two-dimensional antiferromagnets with a honeycomb lattice. MEC coefficients along with magnetic exchange parameters and spring constants are computed for monolayers of transition-metal trichalcogenides with Néel magnetic order (MnPS3 and VPS3) and zigzag order (CrSiTe3, NiPS3, and NiPSe3) by ab initio calculations. Using these parameters, we predict that the spin-Nernst coefficient is significantly enhanced due to magnetoelastic coupling.
