, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Kaboli, Shahryar (Supervisor)
Abstract
The ultra-narrow pulse generator have being used for direct production of pulsed power. One of these structures is being used to make a bipolar pulse and its main feature is the utilization of the real transmission lines (not PFN) with an intricate structure that caused volume to be compressed. It is desired to reach an appropriate design by analyzing the output waveform and its relation to the transmission line parameters. A little piece of work has been done in the past but there were some differences from our anticipations in the waveforms, like pre-pulse, long rise and fall times and overshoot that caused by some non-idealities in the structure. What we have done in this project is to...

Analysis and Improvement of Output Voltage Ripple in High Voltage DC Power Supply
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Kaboli, Shahryar (Supervisor)
Abstract
The TWT is highly sensitive to the ripple amplitude of its power supply output voltage. If the amplitude of the output voltage's ripple exceeds a certain limit, the amplitude of the undesired harmonics in the power spectrum of the TWT is greatly increased. Increasing the amplitude of undesired harmonics in the TWT output power spectrum reduces the accuracy and performance of the TWT. Therefore, for optimum TWT performance, a low-ripple power supply is essential. Typically, a low-frequency rectifier or high-frequency switching structure is used to build a high-voltage DC power supply. In this thesis, the different structures of high voltage DC power supplies are studied. Next, by focusing on...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Kaboli, Shahryar (Supervisor)
Abstract
Mostly, the high voltage DC power supplies have output voltage ripple. In such an applications like power supply of microwave lamps in radar systems, low output voltage ripple is an important point of operational characteristics. On the other hand, measuring the low voltage ripple will be a challenge that can lead to recognize of its reasons and reduce its amplitude. In this thesis, different ways of ripple measurement constraints is described, then a method based on high pass filters for output voltage ripple measurement is implemented. The impact of components tolerance and their parasitic components like shunt parasitic resistance of a capacitor in filter operational characteristics is...

Abstract
In this study, 40% CaO/γ-Al2 O3 catalyst was used for biodiesel production from corn oil. A transesterification reaction was done for 5h at a temperature of 65°C in the presence of corn oil, methanol (methanol to oil molar ratio of 12:1), and CaO/γ-Al2 O3 catalyst (0.06g/g (6wt%)). Catalyst used in this study was synthesized using the sol-gel method. In this method, two parameters of gelation temperature and nitric acid concentration were used as variables in the catalyst synthesis step, and experiments were designed using central composite design (CCD). The results indicate that the optimal point is achieved at a gelation temperature of 70°C and...

The Role of Cosmological Constant in Gravitational Lensing
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Mansouri, Reza (Supervisor)
Abstract
In present thesis, the effect of cosmological constant, Λ, in bending of light by spherical symmetric mass has been studied. At first we obtain the Schwarzschild-de Sitter solution as spherical symmetric solution of General relativity field equations with cosmological constant, without we suppose the solution is static. Then we obtain gravitational lens equation by considering the space geometry and we benefited from several approach to specify the contribution of cosmological constant to the deflection angle. Furthermore we put new upper bounds on the value of the lambda independently of cosmological constraints. Finally for study the contribution of lambda in gravitational lensing...
Optimal Coupled Rendezvous and Docking Control
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Pourtakdoust, Hassan (Supervisor)
Abstract
Planning safe rendezvous and docking trajectories between two spacecrafts has a high importance in the space applications. In order to make two spacecrafts moving in different orbits closer, two stages must be completed simultaneously: First the implementation of rendezvous maneuver which deals with the generation of control/guidance commands leading to trajectories that lead the chaser towards the target. Second the docking maneuver incorporation which makes the two spacecrafts closer with the relative zero attitude. Various approaches have been dealt with till now using the analytical and numerical approaches generally considering rendezvous, not the docking maneuver. These approaches...
CFD Modeling of Fixed Bed Reactor for Direct Synthesis of DME from Syngas and Carbon Dioxide
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Kazemeini, Mohammad (Supervisor)
Abstract
Today, the global environmental restrictions as well as; energy problems have directed researchers toward developing ideas of producing a clean liquid fuel from coal or natural gas as a major research topic. In this regard, a special attention is paid to the dimethyl ether (DME) as a clean material containing 34.8% oxygen possessing enough positive potential to replace the diesel and LPG fuels. One of the most economic routes for producing the DME is known to be the direct conversion of the synthesis gases and carbon dioxide first to the methanol and then its dehydration to the DME. Moreover, the DME is not limited to a particular country or resource area since small reservoirs of natural...

Abstract
Under different loading conditions, the over-head cranes may experience a wide range of model parameters variation. A robust control strategy is developed to achieve the high positioning accuracy, short transportation time and suppression of swing angle for an uncertain over-head crane system. Over-head crane is modeled as a three degrees of freedom system and control problem is investigated for two cases: a system with a single control input (the force on trolley) and a system with two control inputs (the force on trolley and the torque on lifter). Regulator and observer systems are designed. To achieve the tracking objectives, an optimal robust controller is designed based on μ-synthesis...
Spectral Sparsification of Graph
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Daneshgar, Amir (Supervisor)
Abstract
The running time of almost every algorithm in the graph theory depend on the number of edges. Thus, these algorithms are often too slow when the input graphs are dense. Therefore, it is useful to reduce the number of edges by sparsification. In fact, sparsification is the task of approximating a graph G = (V;E) by another graph ~G = (V; ~E) so that ~E E (j~Ej jEj) and ~G maintain a main prefixed property of G. Depending on these properties several notions of graph sparsification have been proposed. In this thesis we study a notion of sparsification that is called spectral sparsification which is based on the contributions of Daniel A. Spielman et.al..In this notion of sparsification...

Abstract
Due to international competition and strict limitations of standards regarding the noise level, investigation of gear vibration is of great importance. In this paper, nonlinear oscillations of spur gear pairs including the backlash nonlinearity is studied. Dynamic system is described through the classical single degree of freedom (SDOF) model in terms of dynamic transmission error (DTE). Using multiple scale method, forced vibration responses of the gear system including primary, super-harmonic and sub-harmonic resonances are investigated. In each case, the jump phenomenon and stability analysis are studied. In addition, the effect of dynamic and manufacturing parameters of the gear system...
Molecular Dynamics Simulation of Crack Propagation in Nanocrystalline Materials
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Farrahi, Gholamhossein (Supervisor)
Abstract
Nanocrystalline metals and alloys have some appealing characteristics with significance potential compared to their microcrystalline counterparts for engineering applications. These include ultra-high yield and fracture strengths, decreased elongation and toughness, superior wear resistance, and the promise of enhanced superplastic formability at lower temperatures and faster strain rates. This leads us to study the effects of different nanocrystalline parameters on crack propagation process in these materials. In the present study, the behavior of a crack in a columnar nanocrystalline structure is examined. One of the methods of modelling nanocrystals primary structures is the Voronoi...
