    Long-Lead Streamflow Forecasting Using Ensemble Streamflow Prediction Technique (ESP) and Large-Scale Climate Signals

    In this research, two of the most prominent known sources of interannual and interdecadal climate variability in the form of El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) are analyzed to assess the influences of these large-scale climate phenomena on water supply in the Zayandeh-rood River Basin. For this purpose, any shifts in the mean and variance of the inflow volume of the Zayandeh-Rood Dam in different climate conditions (resulted by different combination of ENSO and PDO phases) has been analyzed and compared with similar statistics in neutral condition to find out if the differences are statistically significant.     Abstract
    In regard to highly poisonous effects of cyanide ion, concerns have been focused recently on treatment of such compounds in different ways. Four bacterial strains (C1-C4) capable of using cyanide as nitrogen source were isolated from contaminated gold mine soil samples under alkaline conditions at 30 °C, pH 9.5-10.5, and agitation speed 150 rpm. The gram-negative bacterium C3 (identified as Pseudomonas parafulva NBRC 16636(T) by 16S rRNA gene sequencing) was able to tolerate cyanide up to 500 ppm besides removing 93.5% of 200 ppm cyanide in 13 days which was confirmed by microorganisms growth.     The environmental pollutions besides wasting the valuable materials as two main challenges in pyrometallurgical processes have brought up the tendency towards the hydrometallurgical processes. In the present study, the recovery of germanium from leaching residues of zinc plant has been investigated. Firstly, the required tests for concentrating the residues through washing of the zinc were designed by taguchi method, and optimum condition for maximum leaching of zinc accompanied by minimum desolution of germanium were obtained.     Metal pH50 and ΔpH50 values were determined and compared for a number of organic systems to select a synergistic system for the separation of Cd from Zn. The largest ΔpH50(Zn-Cd) value was obtained with HRJ-4277 (nonylsalicylic acid)/Cyanex 471X (triisobutyl phosphine sulphide or TIBPS) system and reached 1.53 pH units, indicating excellent separation of Cd from Zn with this system. Shellsol 2046 was chosen as the diluent of the system due to its larger ΔpH50(Zn-Cd) and excellent phase separation compared with other diluents.
