    , Article Proceedings of 2009 IEEE International Conference on Electro/Information Technology, EIT 2009, 7 June 2009 through 9 June 2009, Windsor, ON ; 2009 , Pages 332-337 ; 9781424433551 (ISBN) Mortazavi Far, L ; Beigy, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    2009
    Abstract
This paper presents a new model of call admission control which consists of a few key elements for protecting the network in different conditions of workload in a manner that, calls blocking /dropping are kept under desired level. This model consists of two traffic classes of voice and data. In order to give a priority to handoff call over new call, some parameters in this model are adjusted in a manner that handoff dropping is reduced to the least probability in the target cell and the adjacent cells. Some channels are reserved for voice and data calls in each cell to guarantee the quality of service requirements in the network. Limited fractional guard channel is used to have an optimized...

Maximum WSN coverage in environments of heterogeneous path loss

    , Article International Journal of Sensor Networks ; Volume 16, Issue 3 , 1 January , 2014 , Pages 185-198 ; ISSN: 17481279 Mortazavi, S. H ; Salehe, M ; MacGregor, M. H ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
We study wireless sensor network (WSN) node placement in an environment where RF signal losses vary with position. This reflects real-world outdoor environments where vegetation and topography cause nonuniform path loss. Many techniques that solve for a variety of objective functions subject to various constraints have previously been proposed for node placement. However, many of these methods make simplifying assumptions such as all nodes having the same transmission range. Our goal is to take the insights and approaches of this previouswork and extend it to real-world environments. The present work assumes we have a map that quantifies the path loss behaviour of the real environment. Based...

    Abstract
In this study a multi-objective genetic algorithm is utilized to obtain a Pareto optimal set of solutions for geometrical characteristics of airfoil sections for 10-meter blades of a horizontal axis wind turbine. The performance of the airfoil sections during the process of energy conversion is evaluated deploying a 2D incompressible unsteady CFD solver and the second law analysis. Artificial neural networks are trained employing CFD obtained data sets to represent objective functions in an algorithm which implements exergetic performance and integrity characteristics as optimization objectives. The results show that utilizing the second law approach along with Pareto optimality concept...

    , Article International Transactions on Electrical Energy Systems ; Volume 25, Issue 10 , June , 2015 , Pages 1976-1991 ; 20507038 (ISSN) Amini, H ; Reza Alikhani, H. R ; Mortazavi, S. M ; Sharif University of Technology
John Wiley and Sons Ltd  2015
    Abstract
The islanding of a distributed generation (DG)-fed distribution system generally results in frequency drop, which means less power is generated than it is needed. The only way of dealing with this problem is shedding loads as the system cannot generate any more electricity. Load shedding is intended to restore balance between generated and consumed power. This paper proposes a new method for load shedding based on the rate of change of frequency (RoCoF) at the first step and on voltage drop at subsequent steps. For this purpose, three lookup tables were created in order to prioritize loads to be shed according to the willingness of subscribers to pay and the RoCoF. The strength of the...

Analysis of Digital DSP Blocks Using GDI Technology

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Faed, Mahdi (Author) ; Mortazavi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In line with developments in the technology of integrated circuits, transistors are implemented in silicon. Although the price is reduced; design is more complicated, which causes the efficiency and power consumption to face some difficulties in such design. The reason why modern GDI-based circuit is the focus of attention is that in designing a digital circuit, less power is required while more efficiency is obtained. Lowering the complexity of the logic circuit can bring about reduction of power consumption and propagation delay and decrease the circuit space. GDI-based integrated circuits resemble MOSFET transistors but have fewer transistors and higher performance capability. This study...

Optimization of heat transfer in vehicle's underhood which contains radiator, cylidir block, cylinder head and … with minimum pressure loss on engine is one of the most important problems of the car companies in all over the world. To design some cooling parts like simple radiators which doesn’t have a effective cooling effect, we can use equations.but for more complicated geometries which is morte efficient we have many complicated solutions. So in this condition computationl analysis and laboratories play an important role.in this condition we should consider that producing a sample and the process of verifying the result of test is too expensive. So recently the car companies prefare...

Predicting Travel Time Variability in Urban Arterials Based on Delay Variability at Signalized Intersections

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mortazavi, Abolfazl (Author) ; Nasiri, Habibollah (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Raising number of vehicles and increasing tendency of people to possess their own cars have posed a lot of expenses on users. One of the most significant of them is the time it takes to travel between origin and destination. Several researches have been conducted so far in order to evenly distribute travel times among transportation network users. A variable that has been neglected in many of these studies is travel time variability. Users, obviously, need to know not only the travel time, but also the probability of varying this time. In this research, an analytical model has been developed on a geometrical basis that includes both traffic conditions and intersection characteristics to...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mortazavi, Mostafa (Author) ; Zabihollah, Abolghassem (Supervisor)
    Abstract
During the past two decades, laminated composite structures have been used for many engineering applications, including aerospace, automotive, sport equipment and pressure vessels.
In spite of the excellent properties of strength to weight ratio, composite structures are vulnerable to failure when subjected to impact and vibration. It is well known that impact damage may severely degrade the strength and stability of laminated composite structures. For this reason the effect of impact on composites has been a subject of extensive research.
There are several ways of decreasing the vibration energy of structures, such as diminishing the source energy, designing structures...

    Abstract
In this study, a new polymeric functionalized magnetic nanocatalyst containing a molybdenum Schiff base complex was prepared using a few consecutive steps. Poly (methylacrylate)-coated magnetic nanoparticles were synthesized via radical polymerization of methyl acrylate onto modified magnetic nanoparticles followed by the amidation of the methyl ester groups with hydrazine. Polymeric functionalization efficiently provides the advantage that more catalytic units can be grafted on the surface of magnetic nanoparticles. The functionalization process was continued with salicylaldehyde which introduced Schiff base groups on to the surface of the polymeric support. In the final step, the desired...

Bending Rigidity of Helical Microtubule structures

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mortazavi, Hamed (Author) ; Ejtehadi, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Microtubules are hollow cylindrical structures of 25 nanometer diameter inside cell membrane. Microtubule (MT) serves as a cell structure component and vesicular transport inside cell. It has been shown in recent researches that the persistence length in MTs is length dependent and increases about several times of counter length. Also helical structures of MTs have been found recently. In this research using Molecular Dynamic simulation of coarse-grained microtubular structures we compare persistence length of wild and helical microtubular structures. We show that the persistence length in helical structures is independent to the length.

Simultaneous Group Membership with Members Collaboration in Wireless Networks Using Hierarchical Approach

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mortazavi, Anahita (Author) ; Nemaney Pour, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Recently, demand for using variant applications in distributed networks has been increased largely. Most of these applications are based on group communication. In distributed group communication, two important factors need to be considered, group construction, and Group Key Management (GKM). The group construction specifies the process of constructing a new group by cooperation between distributed users. As well, GKM ensures re-freshness of the group key after each join/leave operation. Both of these tasks must be done by collaboration between members. This leads to imposing complexity and communication overhead to the system. This thesis proposes efficient methods for group construction and...

    Abstract
Phenomena such as collective movements of birds and fish, collective and harmonious activities of ants, termites, bacteria, etc. have inspired engineers to create and develop the idea of swarm robotics. Robotic groups can be used for applications such as searching the environment, patrolling, cooperation in moving heavy objects and so on. One of the issues considered regarding swarm robotics is the formation of geometric shape by the multi robots system. Two main methods are employed for solving the problem of shape formation: the leader-follower method, and the artificial potential functions method. This thesis presents some control algorithms for shape formation in multi-robot systems on...

Indoor Noise Pollution Modeling: A Case Study on Resalat Tunnel

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sadat Mortazavi, Mandana (Author) ; Vaziri, Manouchehr (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Noise or noise pollution, is defined as an unwanted sound, produced mostly by motor vehicles in urban areas. If the noise exceeds its limit, adverse effects on users and citizens are expected. Thus the assessment of the noise level and its comparison with allowable values is mandatory. Traffic induced noise depends upon different factors such as traffic, weather, and, sound barriers. Noise pollution study has a long history all over the world. Many studies, mostly representing the outdoor noise pollution models, have been done in recent years. This paper presents an assessment of traffic-induced noise in a heavily traveled tunnel, locally referred to as Resalat tunnel, which is located in...

    , Article Proceedings of the 2011 International Conference on Image Processing, Computer Vision, and Pattern Recognition, IPCV 2011, 18 July 2011 through 21 July 2011 ; Volume 2 , July , 2011 , Pages 753-756 ; 9781601321916 (ISBN) Miralavi, S.R ; Ghorshi, S ; Mortazavi, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
In this paper, a low order recursive linear prediction method and recursive least square as an adaptive filter (LP-RLS) are introduced to predict the speech and the excitation signals. In real-time packet-based communication systems, one major problem is misrouted or delayed packets which results in degraded perceived voice quality. If packets are not available on time, the packet is known as lost packet. The easiest task of a network terminal receiver is to replace silence for the duration of lost speech segments. In a high quality communication system, to avoid quality reduction due to packet loss, a suitable method and/or algorithm is needed to replace the missing segments of speech. The...

    Abstract
Medical images contain information about vital organic tissues inside of human body and are widely used for diagnoses of disease or for surgical purposes. Image reconstruction is essential for medical images for some applications such as suppression of noise or de-blurring the image to provide images with better quality and contrast. In this paper Kalman filter technique is introduced for medical image reconstruction. This technique is operated in time domain unlike the filtered back projection which operates in frequency domain. Results indicated that as the number of projection increases in both the collected ray sum corrupted by noise and by blurring the quality of reconstructed image...
