Forecasting Science Hotspots Based on Keywords Network

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Moslemzadeh, Mustafa (Author) ; Hajsadeghi, Khosrow (Supervisor) ; Khosravi, Kaveh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
When the keywords in academic articles are collected and accumulated to achieve a certain amount, they will display a network property. This property can help us to get the hotspot graph of science by using the keywords network, which is directly related to the subject of the paper. Also by analyzing this network, it is possible to forecast the future science hotspots.By analyzing keywords network from complex networks point of view, we are able to predict the future hotspots based on current trends, previous growth patterns that happened or with the power of different centrality measures like eigenvector etc. As an example, when a new keyword appears in a paper for the first time, a complex...

A Counting Formula for the Kervaire Semi-Characteristic

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ismayli, Behnam (Author) ; Esfahani Zadeh, Mustafa (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Similar to the classical Poincare-Hopf index formula for the Euler characteristic, Zhang gave a counting formula for the Kervaire semi-characteristic of a 4q+1 manifold. We first study Witten deformation techniques in the proof of the Poincare-Hopf formula. Then we will represent Zhang’s formula which uses similar analysis. Both these formulas establish a connection between topological and geometrical data on a manifold. Both proofs will be analytical. Index theory will play the ’bridge’ between the topology and analysis. We begin with an analytic interpretation of the topologically defined quantities as indices of differential operators. We deform the operators with respect to appropriate...

Load Shedding in Microgrids to preserve System Stability In The Islanded Operation Mode

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jamshidi, Mohammad Hossein (Author) ; Parniani, Mustafa (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In the near future, it is expected that the microgrids become widespreed due to issues such as reliability, increased penetration of renewable energy sources and distributed generation, environmental concerns and shortage of fossil fuels. Different control methods have been suggested to regulate the frequency and voltage of the system so that these quantities remain in their permissible range upon islanding and in the islanded operation mode. However, in emergency conditions, such as shortage of generated power compared to the load of microgrid, frequency or voltage reduction occures due to imbalance. In this situation, it is invitable to shed extra load to maintain the stability and...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Moslemzadeh, Mohsen (Author) ; Hajilouy Benisi, Ali (Supervisor) ; Mozafari, Ali Asghar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The Rotary Combustion Engines are known as Wankel Engines, for the first time designed and built by German inventor, Felix Wankel. In open letrecher, research reports about these engines are much less than piston engines. While, the wankel engine hase many advantages such as lower volume, less weight, less vibration and use of fuels lower octane number in compared with reciprocating engines. Therefore, it has particular importance in industries such as aircraft manufactueres. In this theses after the introduction chapter, Wankel engines and Turbochargers usage are reviewed. Then the Wankel engine and its turbocharging are searched in letrecher. Then, a computer code for simulation the Wankel...

The Correlation between Science & Abrahamic Religions (Emphasizing on Evolutionary Biology & Islam)

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Farahmand, Maryam (Author) ; Tagavi, Mustafa (Supervisor) ; Miandari, Hassan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
While the science–religion debate on human creation has been widely explored in the Muslim world، Iranian Muslim opinions have been missed in the mainstream literature. To see whether they follow the lead of the majority of Muslim thinkers or not، here is an overview of the Qur’anic Perspective of Iranian Muslim Scholars. After reviewing the previously categorized approaches of Muslims encountering evolution mentioned in the literature، this thesis will survey the Qur’anic verses related to the biological creation of man with the “scientific-lexical” method of all possible states. Afterward، the views of the most-cited Iranian scholars، such as Saḥābī، Ṭabāṭabā’ī، Muṭahharī، and Jawādī، will...

    Abstract
Governments in developing countries have invested in institutions of higher learning in order to develop homegrown, high technology products. Among these, the National University of Malaysia (Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia), recognized as a Research University, is actively involved in projects related to medical technology through its various faculties. The net result of these activities is impressing from the point of view of patents and publications, but unfortunately not yet in terms of commercialization. This paper starts by presenting the main obstacles towards the objective of bringing a laboratory prototype to the market in the context of Malaysia. Then, a framework is presented...

    Abstract
Water shortage is the main limitation for agricultural production in many parts of the world. Drought or unavailability of water may seriously limit plant growth as well as yield. A pot experiment was carried out to evaluate the effects of various irrigation strategies, i.e., Full (FI), deficit (DI) and partial root-zone drying (PRD) on physiological, biochemical and yield-related attributes of cotton crop. Irrigation treatments started 60 days after planting and lasted for 60 days. For FI and DI, 100% and 50% of evapotranspiration (ET) was replaced by irrigating the entire pot surface every 4–5 days. For PRD, root system was split into two equal halves and during each irrigation event, only...

    Abstract
Nutrient disorder and presence of disease-causing agents in soilless media negatively influence the growth of muskmelon. To combat these issues, use of environmentally-friendly sanitation techniques is crucial for increased crop productivity. The study was conducted under greenhouse and field conditions to investigate the effect of two different sanitation techniques: steaming and formalin fumigation on various media’s characteristics and their impact on muskmelon yield. Media: jantar, guar, wheat straw and rice hull and peat moss of 10% air-filled porosity and sanitized with formalin and steaming. Steaming of guar, jantar, and wheat straw increased the phosphorus (P) and potassium (K)...

    Abstract
Since 2000, many countries have achieved considerable success in improving child survival, but localized progress remains unclear. To inform efforts towards United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3.2—to end preventable child deaths by 2030—we need consistently estimated data at the subnational level regarding child mortality rates and trends. Here we quantified, for the period 2000–2017, the subnational variation in mortality rates and number of deaths of neonates, infants and children under 5 years of age within 99 low- and middle-income countries using a geostatistical survival model. We estimated that 32% of children under 5 in these countries lived in districts that had attained...

    Abstract
Background: While there is a long history of measuring death and disability from injuries, modern research methods must account for the wide spectrum of disability that can occur in an injury, and must provide estimates with sufficient demographic, geographical and temporal detail to be useful for policy makers. The Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2017 study used methods to provide highly detailed estimates of global injury burden that meet these criteria. Methods: In this study, we report and discuss the methods used in GBD 2017 for injury morbidity and mortality burden estimation. In summary, these methods included estimating cause-specific mortality for every cause of injury, and then...

    Abstract
Exclusive breastfeeding (EBF)—giving infants only breast-milk for the first 6 months of life—is a component of optimal breastfeeding practices effective in preventing child morbidity and mortality. EBF practices are known to vary by population and comparable subnational estimates of prevalence and progress across low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) are required for planning policy and interventions. Here we present a geospatial analysis of EBF prevalence estimates from 2000 to 2018 across 94 LMICs mapped to policy-relevant administrative units (for example, districts), quantify subnational inequalities and their changes over time, and estimate probabilities of meeting the World Health...
