Passive Measurement of Viscoelastic Properties of the Healthy Red Blood Cell by Optical Tweezers

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Motaghian, Melika (Author) ; Seyyed Reihani, Nader (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Blood is one of the most important biological organs. Red blood cell (RBC), as the most abundant cell of blood, plays an important role at life of the living bodies. Unique mechanical properties of RBCs enable them to pass through very narrow vessels. Any abnormality in these mechanical properties will disorder the function of the cell and many diseases affect these properties too. Studying the mechanical properties of RBCs is very importantin that it could result in a disease diagnostic method in a single-cell level. In this thesis we have tried to measure the viscoelastic properties of a single RBC by an optical trap through a passive method. This measurement is made through studying the...

Examining the Effect of Initial Public Offerings on the Behavior and Learning Process of Individual Investors in the Tehran Stock Exchange

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Motaghian, Meysam (Author) ; Ebrahimnejad, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Individuals’ cognitive and behavioral biases can be strengthened or weakened by various factors. When these biases manifest in financial markets, they influence trading behavior and portfolio returns of investors, and from a macro perspective, they affect market efficiency. During 2020–2021, some Tehran Stock Exchange brokerage firms automatically placed purchase orders for initial public offerings on behalf of their clients. Observing the returns generated by these IPO purchases can strengthen self attribution bias and foster overconfidence among traders, encouraging more aggressive trades. This study uses transaction level stock market data and a difference in differences statistical model...

On the free vibration response of rectangular plates, partially supported on elastic foundation

    , Article Applied Mathematical Modelling ; Volume 36, Issue 9 , September , 2012 , Pages 4473-4482 ; 0307904X (ISSN) Motaghian, S ; Mofid, M ; Akin, J. E ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Rectangular plates on distributed elastic foundations are widely employed in footings and raft foundations of variety of structures. In particular, mounted columns and single footings may partially occupy the rectangular plate of any kind. This study deals with free vibration problem of thin rectangular plates on Winkler and Pasternak elastic foundation model which is distributed over a particular arbitrary area of the plate. Closed form solutions are developed through solving the governing differential equations of plates. Moreover, a novel mathematical approach is proposed to find the exact analytical solution of free vibration of plates with mixed or fully-clamped boundary conditions....

    Abstract
This study pertains to the free vibration problem of beams on an elastic foundation of the Winkler type, which is distributed over a particular length of the beam. Closed form solutions are developed by solving the governing differential equations of beams. Moreover, an innovative mathematical approach is proposed to find the precise analytical solution of the free vibration of beams with mixed boundary conditions. Results are discussed in detail through verification studies. Ultimately, it was concluded that the proposed mathematical method could successfully obtain the exact solution to the free vibration problem of beams on partial elastic foundations under mixed boundary conditions

Nonlinear Spherically-Symmetric Wave Propagation in a Ball with Inclusion Region Which is Composed of a Blatz-Ko Material

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sarsangi Aliabad, Hamed (Author) ; Mofid, Massood (Supervisor) ; Toufigh, Vahab (Supervisor) ; Emad Motaghian (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
The primary objective of this fundamental research is to examine the nonlinear spherically symmetric wave propagation and the dynamic response of a sphere with an inclusion region having symmetrically distributed eigenstrain. The sphere is assumed to be composed of a specific compressible nonlinear elastic material whose behavior is described by the practical Blatz-Ko model. To achieve this, the study is divided into two main parts. In the first part, the governing dynamic equilibrium equations are derived using established methods in nonlinear elasticity theory. This approach begins by transforming the initial configuration into a manifold with Riemannian geometry, referred to as the...
