, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Movahhedi, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
Abstract
Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) is one of the powder-based Additive Manufacturing (AM) technology in which parts built by CO2 laser. In this research work, Titanium-PMMA-Stearic Acid powders are mixed together to produce parts by Indirect Metal Laser Sintering (IMLS) method. The optimum process parameters such as energy density, Percentage composition of Titanium-PMMA and Scan Sintering are obtained by adopting the Taguchi method for getting the maximum density and minimum porosity. Experiments are planned by Taguchi’s Mix-L8 orthogonal array. According to the results obtained from this study, the percentage of combination Ti-PMMA and Energy density, respectively, are a major parameters that...
Prediction of Machining Chatter Based on 2 Dimensional FE Dynamic Modeling of Chip Formation
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Movahhedi, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
Abstract
In machining processes, chip formation is one of the most important methods to obtain the final shape of a work-piece. Improving the machining processes leads to the increase in the material removal rate (MRR) and reduction of high economical costs. Vibration is an undesirable phenomenon in machining processes because it results in reduction of material removal rate (MRR), poor surface finish and increased tool wear. Among various types of vibration, self-excited vibration or chatter is the most important one. It is obvious from previous investigations that for prediction of machine tools vibration, many simplifications were assumed while the linear and non-linear effects are not considered...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Movahhedi, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor) ; Akbari, Javad (Co-Advisor)
Abstract
Forging process is recognized as the high speed method, economical and with ability to produce high strength parts between metal forming processes. Preform design is the most important step in forging process. In the past this work was done based on experiences. In the complex parts because of error in design there was probability of diverse dies, so that method needed to spent so many times and costs. However recently with progress in computer programming we don’t need to produce diverse dies but spend many times. In this field many investigations are done to dispose designers skills, so forging preform design based on inverse finite elements method is denoted for this gold. In this thesis...
Analaysis of Ultrasonic Vibration Assisted Turing of Engineering Ceramics
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Movahhedi, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor) ; Akbari, Javad (Supervisor)
Abstract
Due to high strength, hardness and high resistance to abrasion, ceramics are difficult for machining. Also as the conductivity coefficient of these materials is low, major amount of produced heat during machining process will be absorbed in the cutting tool which causes intensive wear in cutting tool edge. As a result employing traditional machining for these materials because of low machining speed, tool wear, high roughness and large cutting force, has little efficiency in practice. Therefore non-traditional machining method may improve efficacy. In this thesis effect of utilizing ultrasonic vibration in machining process of fused cast silica ceramic has been studied. Aim of this study at...

, Article International Journal of Research in Wireless Systems (IJRWS) ; Vol. 2, Issue 9, pp. , Sep. 2013 ; Pakravan, Mohammad Reza ; Aref, Mohammad Reza ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
Secure routing is a major key to service maintenance in ad hoc networks. Ad hoc nature exposes the network to several types of node misbehavior or attacks. As a result of the resource limitations in such networks nodes may have a tendency to behave selfishly. Selfish behavior can have drastic impacts on network performance. We have proposed a Misbehavior-Tolerant Multipath Routing protocol (MTMR) which detects and punishes all types of misbehavior such as selfish behavior, wormhole, sinkhole and grey-hole attacks. The protocol utilizes a proactive approach to enforce cooperation. In addition, it uses a novel data redirection method to mitigate the impact of node misbehavior on network...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Kokabi, Amir Hossein (Supervisor) ; Movahhedi, Mojtaba (Supervisor)
Abstract
Joining between aluminum alloys and steels by resistance spot welding accompanies critical technological and metallurgical difficulties. The main problem is formation of brittle intermetallic compounds (IMC) at the welding interface which results in poor mechanical properties. There are some researches based on the microstructure and mechanical properties of resistace spot welding of aluminum to steel and each of them has tried to enhance the joint properties. Using Zn interlayer is an approach to improve Al to steel resistance spot welding properties. Up to now there is few information on the influence of Zn as an interlayer between steel and aluminum on the Al/Steel dissimilar welding...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Aref, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor) ; Pakravan, Mohammad Reza (Co-Advisor)
Abstract
High-quality online services demand reliable and fast packet delivery at the network layer. However, clear evidence documents the existence of compromised routers in the ISP and enterprise networks, threatening network availability and reliability. A compromised router can stealthily drop, modify, inject, or delay packets in the forwarding path to launch Denial-of-Service, surveillance, man-in-the-middle attacks, etc. So researches tried to create intrusion detection methods to identify adversarial routers and switches. To this end, data-plane fault localization (FL) aims to identify faulty links and is an effective means of achieving high network availability. FL protocols use...

Experimental Study and Simulation of Ultrasonic Vibration Effect on Powder Spreading in Selective Laser Sintering Process
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Movahhedi, Mohamadreza (Supervisor)
Abstract
Selective laser sintering is an additive manufacturing technique based on fusion of powder bed, wherein after spreading a powder layer, a focused laser beam directs onto selected points of powder bed to fuse powder particles together. This process is repeated layer by layer until the final part is created. Although utilization of blade as a conventional powder spreading (CPS) mechanism has a good compression ability, the fixed contact line between blade and powder bed surface results in improper powder flowability and increasing shear forces applied on underneath layer. In this study, in order to obtain the basis for conducting practical experiments, discrete element simulation of powder...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Maleki, Abbas (Supervisor)
Abstract
Energy subsidies are one of the most challenging issues for many countries in the world, specially oil and gas exporting countries. Iran is one of the countries that has lost more than ten percent of its GDP due to energy subsidies in recent years. In this thesis, we are going to analyze experiences of different countries and try to provide policy makers with generalizations about this problem so they can implement reform policies more successfully. We have used Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA) methodology. This method can provide modest generalizations by using systematic cross-case comparison between a small number of cases. Details of this method and reasons behind choosing it are...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Aref, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor) ; Pakravan, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
Abstract
Secure routing is a major key to service maintenance in wireless ad hoc networks. Ad hoc nature exposes the network to several types of node misbehavior or attacks. Wormhole attack is one of the most severe active attacks to mobile ad hoc networks. Noting the resource limitations in such networks, nodes may have a tendency to behave selfishly. In addition, it uses a...

Abstract
Providing high bandwidth network infrastructures for ever increasing need of data transport is of great importance. The underling infrastructure for many communication services such as GSM/3G/4G mobile networks and Internet services is Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) optical transport systems. SDH are standardized protocols that multiplex multiple lower rate digital bit streams, such as E1 and Ethernet, and transfer them synchronously over optical fiber using lasers or LEDs. In addition to high data transfer rates, flexible network management and protection mechanisms have great importance, hence are part of SDH standards. In order to obtain flexible network architecture and protected...
Preserving Privacy in Smart Grid
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Aref, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor) ; Pakravan, Mohammad Reza (Co-Advisor)
Abstract
Development of Smart Grid and deployment of smart meters in large scale has raised a lot of concerns regarding customers’ privacy. Consequently, several schemes have been proposed to overcome the above mentioned issue. These schemes mainly rely on data aggregation as a method of protecting users’ privacy from the grid operators. However, the main problem with most of these schemes is the fact that they require a large amount of processing power at the meter side. This, together with the fact that smart meters don’t usually have a powerful processor, can cause the unavailability of smart meter data at the required time for operators of the grid, and at the same time disables smart meters from...
Effect of the Geometry of Colloidal Particles on Nematic Liquid Crystals
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Ejtehadi, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor) ; Mozaffari, Mohammad Reza (Co-Advisor)
Abstract
A liquid crystal is a state of matter composed of highly anisotropic building blocks. When liquid crystals are exposed to surfaces with given shapes and anchoring conditions, the orientation of their molecules gets spatially disordered and topological defects may form in the system. The interplay between liquid crystals and the geometry and topology of the colloidal particles has motivated extensive recent studies. In this thesis, we present the numerical modeling results for two faceted colloidal particles in a thermotropic nematic liquid crystal. To obtain the equilibrium nematic field with a finiteelement method, we numerically minimize the free energy of the system that based on the...
