Abstract
Sharply bent DNA plays an important role in many biological processes such as gene regulation, DNA replication and recombination. DNA cyclization experiments are well suited to study of sharply bent DNA, because they are sensitive to strongly bent conformations. Results of these experiments show that short length DNA molecules are more flexible than predicted by elastic rod model. Therefore, based on these experiments, the elastic rod model is not a suitable model for explaining elastic behavior of DNA at small lengths, although it can explain DNA elasticity at large length scales. Recently, it has been shown that a new model called asymmetric elastic rod model can explain high flexibility...
Application of Graph Theory and Matrices of Relations in Modeling Complex Systems
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Malaek, Mohammad Bagher (Supervisor)
Abstract
Design of complex systems requires different challenges to be met simultaneously. Yet the current methods lack a sound theoretic framework and thus designers normally rely on heuristic or empirical methods; based on available experiences. Such approaches to the system design entail both technical and business risks and subsequently increase the probability of long-term problems. In this research, along with the theoretical framework of the systems design concepts, we discuss number of important models. The main concentration of the work, however, is to; somehow, correlate Axiomatic Design Matrix (ADM) with Design Structure Matrix (DSM). Here we exploit mathematical model based on sets and by...
Performance Analysis of DS/TH CDMA Cognitive Radio System under Doubly-Selective Fading Scenario
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Mashhadi, Saeed (Supervisor)
Abstract
Nowadays providing services beyond the expected performance of users has become the most competition among telecommunication companies. Increase data rate at which a user is able to use a wireless system, you know that most of these companies are competing with each other. However, due to limited power to be sent to a transmitter, the first proposal to increase the data rate of wireless data transmission has a wider bandwidth. This results in increased bandwidth demand and thus sales by the government. During these years, many researchers have tried to increase efficiency in the use of broadband transceiver. These systems due to the wide band signal transmission and high-resolution mass...

Abstract
Resin In Pulp(RIP) is One of the most important processes for separation of uranium from ore while concentration of uranium in ore is low , based on adsorption of uranium that exist in the slurry on onion exchanger resins .uranium ore is dissolved in sulfuric acid and slurry that contain uranium is produced, then this slurry enter stirred reactors and adsorption process is performed.RIP are accepted universally and now adays countries such as canada, south africa and australia use this process when concentration of uranium in slurry after leaching process is 100-500 ppm.in iran also this process is performing in ardacan-saghand mine.Kinetic of adsorption process in stirred reactors has been...
Design and Analysis of a Novel Adaptive Cross-Layer Error Control for Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Rabiee, Hamid Reza (Supervisor)
Abstract
Wireless sensor network (WSN) multimedia applications impose new challenges in the design of algorithms and communication protocols for sensor networks. Indeed, wireless multimedia sensor networks (WMSNs) must provide relatively high throughput and low end-to-end delay and jitter while being energy-efficient. In view of these challenges, error control is an important mechanism which enables us to provide robust and high quality multimedia communication in WSNs. In this thesis, we first perform a comprehensive performance evaluation of different error control schemes for multimedia communication over WSNs. The results of our analysis show how wireless channel errors can affect the performance...
Stability and Stabilization of Fractional Order Linear Time Invariant Swarm Systems
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Tavazoei, Mohammad Saleh (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this thesis, stability and stabilization of fractional-order linear time invariant swarm systems are studied. In recent years it has been proved that the exact model of dynamic agents in most of the swarm systems can be modeled more accurate by fractional order differential equations. Stating the motivation of choosing this subject, the achievements of the thesis can be divided into two general parts: Investigating the stability of fractional-order swarm systems and how to stabilize such systems. After introducing the fractional-order systems and fractional-order model of swarm systems in the introduction part, the literature review is presented in Chapter 2. In Chapter 3 the results...
Numerical Methods for Approximation and Visualization of Invariant Manifolds in Dynamical Systems
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Razvan, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
Abstract
Invariant manifolds are important objects in the theory of dynamical systems. The stable manifold theorem is a very important theorem about this concept which proves the existence of stable and unstable manifolds in a wide range of dynamical systems. The importance of invariant manifolds encourages us to view their pictures. It helps us to understand their bahavior. For this purpose, at first we need to approximate the invariant manifold we want to visualize. There are several algorithms designed to approximate invariant manifolds. Those algorithms approximate a set of points on an invariant manifold and then provide an approximation of the manifold by the calculated points. Visualizing an...
Mechanical Simulation of Corneal Ring Implant Surgery for Keratoconus Treatment Considering Tissue Collagen Structure
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Asghari, Mohsen (Supervisor)
Abstract
Keratoconus is one of the most common optical (visual, eye) diseases that usually occurs in youth or early third decade of life. In this disease, cornea gets thin and loses it initial shape and becomes conical. Doctors use different methods for its treatment including use of glasses, contact lenses (hard or soft), cornea transplantation and also cross linking of cornea. Each of these methods have their limitations, on the other hand, considering that this disease progresses and intensifies, ophthalmologists use corneal ring implant surgery for the treatment of this disease in its advanced levels. A good ring implant in corneal causes increased strength and also cause corneal to get back to...
Development of a Computer Code for Thermo Hydraulics Analysis of Prismatic High Temperature Gas Cooled Reactors
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ghofrani, Mohammad Bagher (Supervisor) ; Jafari, Jalil (Supervisor)
Abstract
A prismatic high temperature gas-cooled reactor (HTGR), which is a graphite moderated, helium-cooled reactor, is a promising candidate for next generation nuclear power plant in that it enables applications, such as hydrogen production or process heat for petrochemical by supplying heat with core outlet temperatures as high as 1000°C. A Thermal Hydraulic Analysis Code (THAC) for gas-cooled reactors has been developed. THAC implicitly solves heat transfer equation of fuel, graphite block and helium. Three types of fuel pins were considered; solid fuel pin, fuel pins with inside holes and annular fuels with coolant flow from its inside and outside surfaces. THAC predicts axial and radial...
Design and Implementation of Distributed Dimensionality Reduction Algorithms under Communication Constraints
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Maddah Ali, Mohammad Ali (Supervisor) ; Salehkaleybar, Saber (Supervisor)
Abstract
Nowadays we are witnessing the emergence of machine learning in various applications. One of the key problems in data science and machine learning is the problem of dimensionality reduction, which deals with finding a mapping that embeds samples to a lower-dimensional space such that, the relationships between the samples and their properties are preserved in the secondary space as much as possible. Obtaining such mapping is essential in today's high-dimensional settings. Moreover, due to the large volume of data and high-dimensional samples, it is infeasible or insecure to process and store all data in a single machine. As a result, we need to process data in a distributed manner. In this...
Generating Mutants for User Interface Testing in Web-based Applications
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Mirian Hosseinabadi, Hassan (Supervisor)
Abstract
In recent years, the user interface of web-based applications has become more and more complicated. Various technologies, architectures, and tools are being used to create a modern user interface. Users interact directly with the user interface, so its functionality has a significant impact on their satisfaction and it is required to design special test suites for the user interface. Furthermore, we need a method to measure the quality and effectiveness of test suites. An effective test suite is a test suite which is able to detect real faults. But this definition is ambiguous, and hence, not practical. A method called Mutation Testing solves this problem and instead of real faults, uses...

A Unified Fve-Ale Approach to Solve Unsteady Laminar to Turbulent Flow on Moving Boundary Domains
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Darbandi, Masoud (Supervisor) ; Taeibi Rahni, Mohammad (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this study, an arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) approach is incorporated with a mixed finite- volume-element (FVE) method to establish a novel moving boundary algorithm to simulate unsteady incompressible flow on non-stationary meshes. The method collects the advantages of both finite-volume and finite-element methods as well as the ALE approach in a unified algorithm capable of solving laminar, transient, and turbulent flows in fluid flow problems with moving boundaries. To enhance the robustness of the extended algorithm, we treat the convection terms at the cell faces using a physical influence upwinding scheme, while the diffusion terms are treated using bilinear finite-element...
Compatibility Analysis of Surfactants Acid Additives and their Effect on the Reaction Rate
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Fatemi, Mobeen (Supervisor) ; Bazargan, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Mohammadi, Saber (Supervisor)
Abstract
Well stimulation techniques are used to increase the productivity of oil and gas wells. One of the effective well stimulation methods, is matrix acidizing. During matrix acidizing, acidic solution is injected into the formation at pressure below the formation fracture pressure. Most of the time, acid needs to be reached to low permeability layers for more efficient damage removal. Divertors are used for diverting acid from high permeability to low permeability layers.Successful performance of a viscoelastic acid during an acid job, is highly dependent on the surfactant rheological properties. For a betaine viscoelastic surfactant, we have studied the effect of different parameters on the...

Abstract
Cable-driven parallel robots have several outstanding characteristics that make them unique in many robotic applications. Since cables can only pull, one of the most important issues associated with these robots is obtaining their workspace. In this paper a spatial translational cable-driven robot with active/passive cables is considered and its workspace is investigated from several points of views. First the moment resisting capability of the robot is discussed and the effects of some robot's parameters on the workspace are studied. Then, both force-feasibility and moment-resisting capability of the robot are considered to find the region where the end-effector may exert the required...
Kinematic and Dynamic Analysis and Workspace Optimization of a 3DoF Cable-Based Parallel Robot
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Zohoor, Hassan (Supervisor)
Abstract
Cable-driven robots are referred to as parallel robots actuated with cables. In fact,in such robots rigid links are replaced by cables, which may be extended to desired lengths without making mechanism much heavy. This robot possesses a number of unique properties that makes it suitable for many industrial applications. The main factor which makes cable robots analysis different from other parallel robots is the incapability of cables to push objects. Hence, obtaining the workspace of a cable robot is one of the most important subjects associated with this type of robot. The goal of this thesis is to design a spatial translational cable driven robot, which may be used for object handling. For...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ehsan , Mehdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
Uncertain fuel prices and also global climate changes are accompanied by some state initiatives such as renewable portfolio standards (RPS). This has caused a fast growth in the amount of renewable energy installed worldwide especially wind energy over last decades. However, the intrinsic characteristics of wind farms output power, i.e. intermittency and volatility of wind speed along with being non-dispatchable in output generation of wind turbine raises many new technical and financial challenges for power system operators and planners. Up to these issues, large level of wind power penetration causes a growing concern in wind energy curtailment issue which the wind farm’s operator may be...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Khaloo, Ali Reza (Supervisor)
Abstract
In recent decades the use of FRP materials for strengthening structures has been developed extensively, thanks to their high strength, sufficient stiffness, high durablity, and ease of use. A great deal of research has been conducted on strengthening reinforced concrete beams and columns with FRP composites. By contrast, not many researches are performed on slabs, especially two-way slabs. In these few researches, the loading and boundary conditions are limited to simplest ones. Therefore, in this thesis, the focus of attention is on strengthening reinforced concrete slabs under various loads and boundary conditions using FRP composites.
In this thesis, first, FRP composites and their...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Saleh Kaleybar, Saber (Supervisor)
Abstract
One of the key subjects in the area of mathematical optimization is a class of problems known as combinatorial optimization. We can find the optimal solution of continuous optimization problems feasible in time. But, in combinatorial optimization, we aim to obtain the optimal solution of the problem over a finite set. These problems are NP-hard and no polynomial-time solution has been proposed for this class of problems so far. Thus, in practical scenarios, we often use heuristic methods for solving NP-hard problems. There are lots of heuristic methods and choosing the best one in different situations might be challenging. In recent years, with the advances in deep neural networks,...
