, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Nasiri Khansari, Mohamad Tagi (Author) ; Durali, Mohamad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This project focuses on the design of fuel drop tanks for airplanes that add minimal drag and positive lift to the flying object. This will obviously effect the stability and dynamic performance of the airplane. To reduce adverse dynamic effects the tank was divided to several segment with a special emptying sequence. The add-on tank has to have no interference with the object existing systems and require minimum structural changes in the object. Several designs were proposed and the one gaining highest marks was selected. The flow field and the dynamic behavior of combined vehicle and drop tanks were studied using FE simulations. The result shows that adding a drop tank with optimized...

Meta-Heuristic Methods for Solving Project Scheduling and Shop Scheduling Problems

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Nasiri Khansari, Mohammad Mahdi (Author) ; Kianfar, Farhad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The main purpose of this thesis is to propose effective meta-heuristic algorithms for solving the scheduling problems. We consider the problems that are associated with two areas: project scheduling and shop scheduling. In project scheduling area, only the resource constrained project scheduling problem (RCPSP) is considered. For solving this problem, a hybrid particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is developed. The proposed algorithm outperforms other existing PSO algorithms for the problem. However, most of the contributions of this thesis are related to the second area. The shop scheduling problems of concern include: job shop, stage shop and partial job shop. We developed two...

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Nasiri Khansari, Mohammad Taghi (Author) ; Movahhedy, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Direct metal deposition (DMD) process is an additive manufacturing technology that is rapidly gaining laser importance due to its various capabilities in applications such as coating, repairing high-value damaged parts, rapid prototyping and even production in small quantities. Among the equipment needed for this process, nozzle is perhaps the most important component because its performance affect the efficiency of powders trapped in the molten pool, and is crucial to the quality of the deposited layer. The existing nozzle designs can be categorized in two groups; lateral and coaxial nozzles; and the coaxial ones are divided into continuous and discontinuous types. Coaxial nozzles have...

Investigating the Effects of Specimen Size and Dimensions Ratio on Compressive Strength of Concrete

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Zabihi, Alireza (Author) ; Kazemi, Mohammad Tagi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Concrete is one of the most widely used building materials. Compressive strength of concrete is the most important property in designing reinforced concrete structures. Compressive strength test should be carried out on specimens with standard dimensions. In practice, dimensions of structural elements could be different from the dimensions of standard specimen. The dimensions’ ratio influences the strength of concrete specimen and the coefficient of strength variation. In the present study it is tried to obtain a meaningful relationship between size and strength based on the results of the tests on the specimens with different dimension ratios. Specimens examined in this study are C25 grade...

Analytical Modeling and Optimal Design of Outer Rotor Variable Reluctance Resolver

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Soleymani, Mohamad Reza (Author) ; Oraee Mirzamani, Hashem (Supervisor) ; Nasiri Gheidari, Zahra (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Position sensors are essential in the control of moving systems. One of these sensors is the Variable Reluctance Resolvers(VR) which are used in the control of permanent magnet motors(PM) due to their simple and robust structure. Variable Reluctance Resolvers can be built in inner/outer stator configuration. Although most commercial Variable Reluctance Resolvers have outer stator and inner rotor configuration, the manufacturing process for inner stator and outer rotor resolvers is much simpler than that of outer stator ones. In this thesis, an analytical model based on the Magnetic Equivalent Circuit(MEC) is initially presented to predict the performance of the outer rotor Variable...

Developing a Simulator for Concurrent Execution of Multiple Workflows in Fog Computing Environment

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rayej, Mohamad Amin (Author) ; Izadi, Mohamad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Fog computing environment consists of several devices which distribute across an arbitrary topology. Each of these devices is capable of carrying out a designated computation simultaneously with other devices. One of the common ways of describing a computation is through the usage of workflows. Workflow is a flexible and formal way of modeling tasks and their requirements for execution. A workflow is essentially a DAG. Therefore, it can model the data dependency between tasks quite accurately. The complex structure of a workflow in conjunction with the homogenous nature of devices in a fog environment makes it difficult to find a resource management algorithm to minimize execution time, used...

Study of the P-^ Effects on the Behavior of Split-Level Steel Structures

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Yarahmadi, Arash (Author) ; Khansari, Vahid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Due to unusual response of structures of buildings with irregularity in their architecture to dynamic excitations, to have a comprehensive knowledge of their behavior during earthquakes is of utmost importance. Building irregularities are in general divided into two major categories, namely Irregularity in Plane and Irregularity in Elevation, and one of the forms of the latter is where there is a split in the levels of the building. In this work, through a series of case studies, the effects of P- phenomenon on the behavior of steel split-level building structures were studied. 5, 10 and 15 story buildings with 5 and 6 bays, and level splitting of 30, 60, 90, 120 and 150 cm were studied. All...

A Prevention Strategy Against Rumor Spreading in Complex Networks

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sadati, Hoda (Author) ; Khansari, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Complex networks have recently become a very noticeable subject because of their remarkable theory on real networks such as rumor spreading. This thesis contributes to a prevention strategy which uses a maximal clique algorithm to find overlapping communities and also uses inverse targeting immunization strategy to immune these communities. By the using maximal clique algorithm combined with inverse targeting strategy we have achieved that the TIK method (targeted immunization using k-clique percolation) obtains 10% of better immunization than HD (highest degree) method which is one of the best methods in targeted immunization strategies. The TIK also demonstrates that rumor spreading is...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Joneydi, Sara (Author) ; Khansari, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Researching in the field of optimization of network immunizing and epidemic spreading is an active and important area. According to literature review, influential nodes are detected based on global graph metrics such as centrality measures. On the other hand, when a network infrastructure is not available and a direct or straight path between source and destination may not be accessible, one can use opportunistic networks routing protocols in Delay Tolerant Networks to recognize influential users is an appropriate approach. In this work, we use a real world three layer dataset which consists of digital data (social relations and Bluetooth contact traces) of individuals. We convert the real...

A New Immunization Algorithm Based on Spectral Properties for Complex Networks

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Zahedi, Ramin (Author) ; Khansari, Mohammd (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Vaccination is one of the ways of disease control and prevention, which not only protect individuals against the disease, but also reduce the disease spread rate. Mass vaccination of individuals is not always possible due to the high cost and limitation of immunization resources. Therefore, researchers are always seeking solutions to find the persons that their immunization may have a greater impact in reduction of disease spread rate. The advent of network epidemic models and the possibility of removal the secured nodes in those models, showed that this problem is equivalent to finding a limited set of individuals that their removal will eliminate or minimize the number of people at risk of...

Design and Implementation of a Robust Control Method for Rotor Tabilizing in a Three-pole Magnetic Bearing

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Khansari, Saed (Author) ; Behzad, Mehdi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
High speed and high accuracy are two of the major trends for many systems in the 21st century, such as machine tools and semiconductor equipment. For the purpose of high speed, it is well known that active magnetic bearing (AMB) is an inevitable substitute for conventional bearings. The noncontact nature of AMB brings up many advantages over the conventional bearing, including energy efficiency, low wearing, long life span, and absence of lubrication. Hence, AMBs are especially essential for high-speed rotating devices nowadays.
While the 3-pole AMB has been proposed for many years, it received little attention due to the magnetic coupling between poles that makes the 3-pole AMB system...

Static nonlinear analysis and Uang method were used for obtaining the RMFs of the studied frames. The effect of split-level irregularity and parameters such as number of stories on the RMF were worked out and are presented in this thesis. Linear regression was used to develop formulae for RMFs of regular and split-level braced frames....

Experimental Study of a New Steel Shear Wall

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Seyf, Hamed (Author) ; Khansari, Vahid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The lateral force & its control has always been a great concern to structural designers. Based on the project’s location, this force can be either earthquake or wind force. In our country, Iran, the earthquake force is usually the dominant one. Of the most important differences between these two kinds of forces, we may point out the cyclic characteristics and nature of earthquake forces. One can choose different strategies to face the earthquake force including the use of dampers. Dampers exist in vast varieties of different categories which we will briefly explain in this thesis. Dampers can be used on their own or in combination with other lateral force resistance systems like bracings or...

Experimental Study of the Hysteretic Behavior of a new Bracing System

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Zarei, Davood (Author) ; Khansari, Vahid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this study, the behavior of a new innovative bracing system under cyclic loading and according to AISC code is investigated. An Ideal bracing system, in addition to having sufficient stiffness, should have a suitable ductility. Also, in order to prevent inelastic behavior of other structural members, braces, in addition to possessing high architectural adaptivity, must be able to contain the damage within itself and behave like a fuse. Three specimens with different sections, IPE100, HEA100 and 2UNP100, were designed and tested. The results of these tests represent an elastic- (approximately) perfectly plastic behavior of the brace if an appropriate section is used. Moreover, this bracing...

Analytical Modelling and Optimization of Disk Type, Slot Less Resolver

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Moheyseni, Atefeh (Author) ; Nasiri Gheidari, Zahra (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Resolvers, due to their robust structure, are widely used in automation systems. Among the types of resolvers, the accuracy of the Wound Rotor (WR) resolver in the occurrence of common mechanical errors is higher than other types of resolvers. therefore, in this thesis, an AFWRR is studied to improve the performance. Increasing the number of poles in WR resolvers is a good solution for increasing the accuracy of these electromagnetic position sensors. However, high-speed WR resolvers due to employing fractional slot windings suffer from rich sub-harmonics in the induced voltages. A common solution for suppressing the undesirable sub-harmonics is using multi-layer winding with appropriate...

    Abstract
Cancer can be defined as a stochastic phenomenon. Thus, the tumor growth can be defined as a stochastic process. A Cancer tumor can be analyzed by its geometric shape. Furthermore, computing fractal dimension of shapes is a useful technique to analyze chaosity and complexity of shapes. This approach can be used to compare results from laboratory with simulated results of a mathematical model. A stochastic model of tumor growth will be presented. And some geometrical properties will be analyzed through computer simulation of the model

A Biomechanical Model for Evaluation of Shoulder Function: Detecting the
Relationship Between Muscles Activation Patterns and Shoulder Joint Torques Using Synergy Concept

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Nassajian Moghadam, Mohamad Reza (Author) ; Parnianpour, Mohamad (Supervisor) ; Asghari, Mohsen (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The effects of combined task demands on the way muscles are recruited to balance external loads during posture and movement is of great importance in quantitative analysis of upper arm function. Pain and disability of shoulder joint is becoming more important as population spends more often interacting with computers in seated position and carrying repetitive tasks using upper extremities. Shoulder joint that is more dependent on the muscles for its normal function than other joints such as hip due to its small articular surface and large range motion has been used here to study its coordination during isometric exertions. Since, the numbers of tasks that could be performed are enormous. In...
