Flight Frequency Determination and Aircraft Routing Problem: Model and Solution

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Nasr Isfahani, Hossein (Author) ; Shafahi, Yusof (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This study aims to solve weekly Flight Frequency Determination and Aircraft Maintenance Routing Problem (AMRP) simultaneously. The objective function here is to maximize the total net profit of an assumptive airline with predetermined airfare and origin-destination market demand. All the needed constraints regarding AMRP is added to the modified version of original model which proposed by Ghafoori in 2011. On the other hand, while this kind of model is based on travelling salesman problem, the occurrence of sub-tours is inevitable. Thus, the model will be, secondly, restricted with more constraints which help eliminate infeasible solutions. The proposed model, then, is tested for three...

    Abstract
Automatic cell segmentation has various applications in different parts of science. The development of automated methods for cell segmentation, remains challenging in situations where there are touching cells. In this paper we propose a new method for separating touching cells. As the first step, we use a combination of graph segmentation algorithm and thresholding for segmenting foreground objects and producing a binary image. Next, boundary points of separation zone are selected by using a corner detection algorithm. Finally, the marker controller watershed transform is applied to separate touching cells at selected points. © 2008 IEEE

A New Model for Track Maintenance Management System (Case study: Iranian Railway)

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Share Isfahani, Hajar (Author) ; Shafahi, Yusof (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Railway managers have strong economic incentive to minimize the cost of track maintenance in order to conserve safety standards and provide adequate service levels for train operators. The main object of this study is to provide a method for railway repairing and maintaining management and improve previous researchs.
In this study, a cumulative damage model based upon a nonhomogeneous Markov process is developed to model track deterioration. The maintenance of deteriorating facilities can be a great challenge because the process of deteriorating has random features for some facilities.
The genetic algorithm is used to find the optimal repair for each possible track state in the...

Leg Design for Quadrupedal Planetary Explorer Robot

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Samiei Isfahani, Saman (Author) ; Hadadpour, Hassan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Road casualty is the fifth leading cause of death in Iran. To adopt proper countermeasures there is a need to evaluate the consequences of the implemented policies. Despite the development of crash time series models, these methods have not been in accordance with the multivariate, seasonal, and non-linear nature of crash data. On the other hand, the interpretable crash causal analysis frameworks are descriptive and they lack predictive power. Moreover, the unobserved homogeneity between observations has been widely overlooked in the crash causal analysis literature. This thesis introduces a novel causal analysis methodology by combining the interpretability and prediction power of the...

    Abstract
In this paper, a novel structure is presented in order to decrease the polarization charges of quantum wells. The main purpose of this design is to make electron and hole wavefunctions closer to each other and to increase overlap integral following an increase of radiative recombination rates and internal quantum efficiency. Furthermore, carriers will be increased and become more balanced and identical which leads to an increase in efficiency of light-emitting diodes. The improvement of radiative recombination rates is studied in new structures. Energy bands diagram, carriers density, current density–voltage, and power density–current density are used to demonstrate the superior performance...

    Abstract
Multinational Enterprises (MNEs) use social media to reach a global audience. Simultaneously, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has become an important feature of MNEs’ communications with stakeholders via social media. It is, therefore, important to understand the country and industry level differences in how stakeholders engage with CSR communications of MNEs via social media. We examine this across four countries and three industries by focusing on stakeholders’ engagement with CSR (vs. non-CSR) posts on Twitter. We find significant differences across industries within countries for three separate aspects of behavioural engagement (likes, retweets and replies). In addition, CSR posts...

    Abstract
In the traditional agri-fresh food supply chain (AFSC), geographically dispersed small farmers transport their products individually to the market for sale. This leads to a higher transportation cost, which is the primary cause of farmers’ low profitability. This paper formulates a traditional product movement problem in AFSC. First, the aggregate product movement model is combined with the vehicle routing model to redesign an existing AFSC (the ETKA Company; the most extensive domestic agri-fresh food supply chain in Iran) based on the available data. For the four-echelon, multi-period supply chain under investigation, a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) model is developed for the...

    , Article Iranian Journal of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering ; Volume 23, Issue 2 , 2004 , Pages 45-53 ; 10219986 (ISSN) Khosravi Darani, K ; Sabzyan, H ; Zeini Isfahani, A ; Parsafar, G ; Sharif University of Technology
Iranian Journal of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering  2004
    Abstract
In this work, a more accurate prediction of liquid evaporation flux has been achieved. The statistical rate theory approach, which is recently introduced by Ward and Fang and exact estimation of vapor pressure in the layer adjacent to the liquid-vapor interface have been used for prediction of this flux. Firstly, the existence of an equilibrium layer adjacent to the liquid-vapor interface is considered and the vapor pressure in this layer and its thickness calculated. Subsequently, by using the Fick's second law, an appropriate vapor pressure expression for the pressure of equilibrium layer is derived and by this expression and the statistical rate theory approach, evaporation flux is...

The manifestation of luxury value dimensions in brand engagement in self-concept

    , Article Journal of Retailing and Consumer Services ; Volume 66 , 2022 ; 09696989 (ISSN) Ostovan, N ; Khalili Nasr, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
This research investigates what consumers in democratized luxury markets value when purchasing luxury items. Nonetheless, these consumers have a limited budget and can not always buy luxury items, yet they are drawn back to these luxury brands. Thus, we use brand engagement in self-concept (BESC) to explain the relationship between these consumers and luxury brands within democratized luxury markets. A conceptualized model of three luxury value dimensions (experiential, symbolic, and functional) is proposed, and 488 cases were gathered through a phone survey. The data were analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). The results show that the most critical...

Detection, Characterization and Analysis of Partial Discharge Signals Frequency Spectrum Related to Different Oil Transformer Faults using UHF Antenna

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Nasr Azadani, Ali (Author) ; Vakilian, Mehdi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
One of the electromagnetic methods for partial discharge detection is known as UHF detection. In this method the electromagnetic radiations from PD sources over a wide frequency band of UHF are detected and the related spectrums over the UHF frequency band are captured for diagnostic. The absence of noise in UHF band (300 MHz- 3GHz) is the most important advantage of this method if compared with other electrical PD detection methods. To capture electromagnetic signals and radiations generated by PD sources, application of an electromagnetic sensor, named antenna, is necessary. Therefore one of the goals in this thesis is to select, design, and build a suitable antenna for PD detection....
