, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Jamali, Sirous (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this project, multi-nucleated clusters of copper (I)-gold (I) and silver (I)-gold (I) were synthesized. Initially, two tetranuclear Au2Cu2 cluster complexes [Au2Cu2(μ-(PPh2)2py)2(μ-OH)](PF6)3, and [Au2Cu2Cl2(μ-(PPh2)2 py)2](OTf)2, have been prepared by the reactions of precursor complexes [Au2(μ-(PPh2)2py)2](OTf)2, and [Cu2(μ-(PPh2)2py)2(μ-SMe2)(OTf)2], with [Cu(NCCH3)4]PF6 and AuCl(SMe2), respectively. The crystal structures of two clusters were determined by X-ray crystallography, indicating a butterfly-shaped Au2Cu2 metal core for the first and a planar-shaped Au2Cu2 metal core for second cluster. In the first cluster, the Cu atoms occupy the edge-sharing bond, while in the second...

Abstract
This paper concerns the design of a neural state observer for nonlinear dynamic systems with noisy measurement channels and in the presence of small model errors. The proposed observer consists of three feedforward neural parts, two of which are MLP universal approximators, which are being trained off-line and the last one being a Linearly Parameterized Neural Network (LPNN), which is being updated on-line. The off-line trained parts are able to generate state estimations instantly and almost accurately, if there are not catastrophic errors in the mathematical model used. The contribution of the on-line adapting part is to compensate the remainder estimation error due to uncertain parameters...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Koohi, Somayyeh (Supervisor)
Abstract
Alignment of genetic sequences is a fundamental part of genetic and bio-science. Alignment of DNA and protein sequences has an effective role in accelerating and simplifying problems in Bioinformatics like predicting protein interactions. Smith-Waterman algorithm is a precise algorithm for performing local alignment, suffering from computation complexity. There are some implementations on CPU, GPU, and FPGA platforms in order to reduce the run time of this algorithm. FPGA implementation is considered because of low power consumption and high degree of parallelism. With using pipeline and hardware redundancy techniques, various architectures have been proposed and implemented. In the best...

Abstract
Two tetranuclear Au2Cu2 cluster complexes [Au2Cu2(μ-(PPh2)2py)2(μ-OH)](PF6)3, 2, and [Au2Cu2Cl2(μ-(PPh2)2 py)2](OTf)2, 4, have been prepared by the reactions of precursor complexes [Au2(μ-(PPh2)2py)2](OTf)2, 1, and [Cu2(μ-(PPh2)2py)2(μ-SMe2)(OTf)2], 3, with [Cu(NCCH3)4]PF6 and AuCl(SMe2), respectively. The crystal structures of complexes 2 and 4 were determined by X-ray crystallography, indicating a butterfly-shaped Au2Cu2 metal core for 2 and a planar-shaped Au2Cu2 metal core for 4. In complex 2, the Cu atoms occupy the edge-sharing bond, while in complex 4, alternating Au and Cu atoms occupy the tetragon vertices. The optical properties of the complexes were investigated by experimental...

Abstract
This paper deals with the problem of optimal large-angle single-axis maneuvers of a flexible spacecraft with simultaneous vibration suppression of elastic modes. A spacecraft model with a cylindrical hub and one flexible appendage and tip mass is considered. Gravity gradient torque is considered as a disturbance torque. Multilayer perceptron neural networks are used to design a Neural Optimal Controller (NOC) for this multivariable non-linear maneuver. For NOC training, an off-line training procedure based on backpropagation through time algorithm is developed to minimize the general quadratic cost function in forward and backward pass stages. The proposed controller is also applicable to...
A Line Search Exact Penalty Method Using Steering Rules
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Mahdavi Amiri, Nezamoddin (Supervisor)
Abstract
Exact linear search algorithm recently have been proposed in the literature by Byrd, Lopez-Calvaz and Nocedal for solving nonlinear programming problems. Line search algorithms for nonlinear programming problems must include safeguards to have global convergence properties. We explain an exact penalization approach that extends the class of problems that can be solved with line search SQP methods. In the algorithm, the penalty parameter is adjusted at every iteration to ensure sufficient progress in linear feasibilility and to promote acceptance of the step. A trust region is used to assist in the determination of the penalty parameter. It is shown that the algorithm enjoys favorable...
An Automatic Semantic Tagger Based on USAS for the Persian Language
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Rahimi, Saeed (Supervisor) ; Bahrani, Mohammad (Supervisor)
Abstract
The emergence of lexical knowledge bases such as WordNet and FarsNet foregrounded the importance of semantic annotation of words in the areas of natural language processing and corpus linguistics. The methodology in these knowledge bases is based on semantic relations and dictionary definitions of the words in coverage. Another efficient way to perform semantic annotation is by semantically classifying the lexicon of a language in a taxonomy. In this research, we build a semantic annotation system for the semantic tagging of Persian texts. This system can be used for building tools and softwares for natural language processing in applications such as text summarization, plagiarism detection...

Abstract
Nano-sized particles of manganese oxides have been prepared by a very simple and cheap process using a decomposing aqueous solution of manganese nitrate at 100 °C. Scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction spectrometry have been used to characterize the phase and the morphology of the manganese oxide. The nano-sized manganese oxide shows efficient catalytic activity toward water oxidation and the epoxidation of olefins in the presence of cerium(iv) ammonium nitrate and hydrogen peroxide, respectively

Abstract
Despite the fact that control charts are able to trigger a signal when a process has changed, it does not indicate when the process change has begun. The time difference between the changing point and a signal of a control chart could cause confusions on the sources of the problems. Knowing the exact time of a process change would help to reduce the time for identification of the special cause. In this article, a model for the change-point problem is first introduced and a maximum-likelihood estimator (MLE) is applied when a linear trend disturbance is present. Then, Monte Carlo simulation is applied in order to evaluate the accuracy and the precision performances of the proposed...

Abstract
Crystal-size distribution (CSD) is one of the most important parameters in sugar production. The objective is to grow crystals of uniform sizes or narrow CSD. CSD appears to be determined by the growth-rate history of the crystals and the relative supersaturation (SS) of the solution from which crystals growth takes place. Three methods for preparation of nucleation seeds were described and used for industrial crystallization of raw and white sugars; these are wet milling filtered sugar (ML), agitating saturated solution (AS) and powdered sugars (PD). Rosin-Rammler (RR) and mathematical models were adopted to investigate CSD and the uniformity of the produced crystals. Higher uniformity...

Abstract
Herein we describe the synthesis and characterization of the first platinum(IV) metal-organic cage [(Me3PtIV)8(byp)12](OTf)8 (2), in which the organometallic moieties trimethylplatinum(IV) (PtMe3) occupied the corners of a cubane structure and 4,4′-bipyridine ligands used as linkers. The first-principles density functional theory calculations showed that the highest occupied molecular orbitals were localized on the PtMe3 moieties, while the lowest unoccupied molecular orbitals were distributed on the organic linkers. © 2021 American Chemical Society

Abstract
The six-coordinated silver(I) complex [Au2Ag(μ-(PPh2)2py)2(OTf)2](OTf), 4 (py = pyridine, OTf = CF3SO3), and the five-coordinated silver(I) complex [Au2Ag(acetone)(μ-(PPh2)2py)2](PF6)3, 6, were prepared by the reaction of the precursor complexes 1(OTf)2 and 1(PF6)2, in which 1 = [Au2(μ-(PPh2)2py)2]2+, with 1 equiv of Ag(OTf) in dichloromethane and excess of Ag(PF6) in a mixture of dichloromethane/acetone, respectively. Also, the five-coordinated silver(I) complex [Au2Ag(μ-(PPh2)2py)2(py)(OTf)](OTf)2, 5, was obtained by the reaction of 4 with pyridine. The clusters 4-6 were characterized using multinuclear NMR spectroscopy and elemental microanalysis. The single-crystal X-ray diffraction...

Abstract
This paper presents synthesis and photophysical investigation of a very rare type of the ReI diimine complexes, [Re(diimine)(CO)3(OPR3)]+, R = Ph, Cy; diimine – phenanthroline and neocuproine, containing monodentate (unsupported) phosphine oxide ligands. The obtained compounds have been structurally characterized in solid phase by using XRD crystallography, which revealed unusual distortions in the pseudo octahedral rhenium environment, which may be ascribed to intramolecular interligand (phosphine oxide – diimine) interaction rather than to crystal packing effect. Optimization of the ground state structure of these molecules with the DFT method also confirmed intramolecular origin of the...
