, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sahraei, Vahab (Author) ; Ghotbi, Cyrus (Supervisor) ; Taghikhani, Vahid (Supervisor) ; Nazari, Khodadad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Gas hydrates are ice-like clathrate compounds. Methane, carbon dioxie and natural gas compounds can form gas hydrate and plug pipelines, in order to preventing of gas hydrate formation, inhibitors like electrolytes are added to the natural gas pipelines. In this work a model proposed to predict the hydrate formation conditions in presence of some inhibitors such as NaCl, KCl, NaBr, KBr, [BMIM][BF4] and [BMIM][Br]. So a new equation of state that can be applied to both electrolyte and associating solutions called GV-SAFT-MSA is developed. Two dialkylimidazolium ionic liquids [BMIM][BF4] and [BMIM][MS] have been investigated for their potential application as novel gas hydrate inhibitors. The...

    Abstract
In this paper an efficient method is proposed for blind detection of multiuser spread spectrum signal and pseudo noise (PN) length estimation in downlink scenario. This method is based on fluctuating observation of second order statistic (SOS) estimator of received signal; estimating length of spreading code with no need to primary information based on observing second order peaks of correlation estimator is presented. In low SNR, the fading multipath phenomenon especially in length of small codes leads to problem in detecting place of correlation estimator peaks. In this paper besides expanding blind estimation to multiuser environment, by using searching method in updating the length of...

Hardware Redundancy in Fault-Tolerant Digital Systems: A VHDL Approach to Evaluate TMR Robustness

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Samsami Khodadad, Farshid (Author) ; Jahed, Mehran (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Triple Module redundancy (TMR) is a commonly used approach to increase reliability in space applications. Applying this method, triple modules and voting circuits are implemented in a field programmable gate array (FPGA). In TMR systems when a single event upset (SEU) occurs, the voting circuit neglects the failure value of a module receiving the SEU and takes a correct value from the other two modules. The present TMR approach utilized for the combinational and sequential logic on the gate level shows that it is possible to write hardware description language (VHDL) code in a structured yet high level coding style to obtain the required redundancy. However using VHDL, the level of required...

    Abstract
A novel, robust and practical method for active user enumeration in asynchronous CDMA in multipath channel condition is proposed in this paper. Most of the previous works do not consider the fact that in practical case, user's signals with the help of receiver arrive asynchronously. The proposed method can be used practically in blind multi-user detection such as eavesdropping; moreover, the method is based on information theory criteria which outperform other methods. Minimum description length (MDL) has better performance than all other information criteria used in such scenarios. Unlike most of the pervious works, we do not exploit array antenna to gather necessary data of the users....

    Abstract
The formation of water drops as a Newtonian fluid and formation of a shear-thinning non-Newtonian fluid, Carboxyl Methyl Cellulose (CMC) from a capillary into different bulk fluids are experimentally investigated. A high speed camera is used to visualize the images of the drops and an image-processing code employed to determine the drop properties from each image. It was found that the properties of the water drops when they are drooped into the liquids bulk fluids such as toluene and n-hexane are almost the same while they differed substantially when they were drooped into the air bulk fluid. It is shown that during the formation of water drop in all three kinds of bulk fluids, the drop...

    Abstract
IN this paper the effect of different channel estimation approaches in OFDMA uplink system which are based on Basis Expansion Model (BEM) and widely used to consider time varying channels are discussed. It has been shown in previous works that modeling error will be reduced by applying oversampled BEM with cost of increasing sensitivity to noise. This problem will be solved by combining oversampled BEM and MMSE channel estimator with cost of increasing computational complexity. In this paper a novel channel estimation approach is represented in which by combining oversampled BEM and low rank MMSE in frequency domain, almost the same performance as the full rank MMSE has been achieved while...

    Abstract
Worldwide interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) is designed to support a wide range of Quality of Service (QoS) requirements for different applications. Unlike the single service networks, a priority based mechanism is needed for specifying the transmission order of packets belonging to different traffic sources according to their QoS characteristics, which is called packet scheduling. In WiMAX standard, packet scheduling algorithm is not defined and its design is left for researchers. In this work, we propose a distributed uplink packet scheduling algorithm. In the proposed algorithm, when uplink capacity cannot satisfy the required resource of connections, according to traffic...

    Abstract
Entrance of air to close water conduits occurs in many ways. This phenomenon makes displeasing effects on water transport structures. Two-phase flows in closed conduits are studied experimentally, numerically and theoretically. Even after decades, due to the complexity of the subject, these studies still require development and reformation. Numerical and theoretical two-phase models are often limited to a special regime of flow."Volume Of Fluid"(VOF) is a model for non-mixing two-phase flows. "Fluent" software uses this model in this field of flows. Volume of fluid is used successfully in some problems like dam break or rising bubbles. Main disadvantage of this model is distribution of the...

Design and Implementation of a Master Robot for a Fracture Reduction Robotic Telesurgery System

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Nazari, Kianoosh (Author) ; Farahmand, Farzam (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Common fracture treatments include open reduction and intramedullary nailing technology. However, these methods have disadvantages such as intraoperative X-ray radiation, delayed union or nonunion and postoperative rotation. Robots provide a novel solution to the aforementioned problems while having new challenges. The robotic system used in the study by providing more precise motion and exerting higher amount of forces makes the operation procedure more straightforward. In a normal operation 300-400 N of extension force would be needed which is fully provided by the surgen which leads to physical his/her (khastegi), by using the robotic system however, this force is simply provided without...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Nazari, Sonia (Author) ; Beigy, Hamid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Worldwide interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) is one of the most dominant cell-based broadband wireless metropolitan access technologies. Packet scheduling algorithm specifies the packet transmission order. In WiMAX standard, packet scheduling algorithm is not defined and its efficient design is left for developers and researchers. The existing researches in the scope of uplink packet scheduling, which is the most challenging packet scheduling scheme, consider only one cell. However the uplink available resources might not be enough when there are many packets that should be scheduled. To solve this problem, we propose an algorithm that uses the load balancing mechanisms that are...

    Abstract
It was shown that the number of array elements must exceed the number of sources for subspace-based direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation. But this is not practical for a direct-sequence code-division multiple access (DS-CDMA) wireless system, since the number of mobile users is very large. To remove the aforementioned restriction, a DOA estimator, employing the code-matched filters and parallel ESPRIT algorithms, is proposed. This algorithm does not use to search all angles such as MUSIC method. Besides, it is not necessary to use AIC and MDL criterion to estimate the number of sources in the proposed algorithm. Simulation results illustrates the appropriate performance of the new method

Stable throughput analysis for a cooperative WLAN with primary and secondary users

    , Article 2012 6th International Symposium on Telecommunications, IST 2012 ; 2012 , Pages 535-540 ; 9781467320733 (ISBN) Nazari, M. A ; Ashtiani, F ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this paper, we propose a new scenario in order to increase the total throughput of a WLAN. In this scenario, some secondary users (SUs) are considered in a primary WLAN such that SUs cooperate with primary users (PUs) in transmitting the primary packets. Each SU sends its packets as well as the primary packets collided at the access point, but overheard successfully at the SU, by random access the primary WLAN. We show that SUs cooperation is able to compensate their adverse effect in the WLAN, so total throughput in the WLAN increases without a significant degrading effect for the stability region of PUs. To this end, we use an analytical model based on open queueing networks. By solving...
