    Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) with synthetic recognition sites are capable of detecting and separating chemical species in complex environments. These characteristics are of increasing interest for bioanalytical applications. The chief advantages of MIPs are mechanical and chemical stability, low cost, and ease of preparation. Recently, imprinting technology has been used for fabrication polymer thin films with recognition sites of proteins, plant viruses, and yeasts.     This study presents the application of the doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) to reduce the frequency deviation and improve frequency of a power system. This has been done by proposing a wind turbine model and a new fuzzy controller. The fuzzy controller has been suggested to change the speed of the wind turbine rotor and modify the impacts of wind speed fluctuations on the output power. The fuzzy controller parameters are optimized using the genetic algorithm (GA) to achieve the appropriate transient response.     In this paper, we propose a very fast and accurate analytical approach to estimate the overall SER and to identify the most vulnerable gates,flip-flops, and paths of a circuit. Using such information, designers can selectively protect the vulnerable parts resulting in lower power and area overheads that are the most important factors in embedded systems.     In this work, a high-order accurate gas kinetic scheme based on the compact finite-difference Boltzmann method (CFDBM) is developed and applied for simulating the compressible rarefied gas flows. Here, the Shakhov model of the Boltzmann equation is considered and the spatial derivative term in the resulting equation is discretized by using the fourth-order compact finite-difference method and the time integration is performed by using the third-order TVD Runge-Kutta method.     In the present study, the effect of the diffuser inlet-to-nozzle exit area ratio (A_d/A_e ) on the gradual starting performance of a second throat exhaust diffuser has been investigated experimentally. Experiments have been carried out with four conical nozzles with different expansion ratios and considering two approaches of gradual increase and gradual decrease of nozzle chamber pressure by a high-pressure air tank. Investigations show that at high area ratios before starting the diffuser, oscillations in the pressure of the test chamber are created due to the instability of the flow at the diffuser inlet.     Motivated by the bus escape routing problem in printed circuit boards, we revisit the following problem: given a set of n axis-parallel rectangles inside a rectangular region R, find the maximum number of rectangles that can be extended toward the boundary of R, without overlapping each other. We provide an efficient algorithm for solving this problem in O(n2 log3 n log log n) time, improving over the current best O(n3)-time algorithm available for the problem

    We explore the dictionary learning problem for sparse representation when the signals are dependent. In this paper, a first-order Markovian model is considered for dependency of the signals, that has many applications especially in medical signals. It is shown that the considered dependency among the signals can degrade the performance of the existing dictionary learning algorithms. Hence, we propose a method using the Maximum Log-likelihood Estimator (MLE) and the Expectation Minimization (EM) algorithm to learn the dictionary from the signals generated under the first-order Markovian model.     Data are presented on the solidification of aluminum alloys and their macro segregation behavior. Three alloys with different solidification ranges were prepared in two temperatures. Two types of molds were also prepared by sand and metallic materials.     Motivated by the bus escape routing problem in printed circuit boards, we study the following rectangle escape problem: given a set S of n axis-aligned rectangles inside an axis-aligned rectangular region R, extend each rectangle in S toward one of the four borders of R so that the maximum density over the region R is minimized. The density of each point p∈R is defined as the number of extended rectangles containing p. We show that the problem is hard to approximate to within a factor better than 3/2 in general.
