    Abstract
Routers and routing protocols are critical parts of a network infrastructure. OSPF is one of the most important routing protocols, and therefore its vulnerabilities can be very destructive. This makes its security analysis critical. There are many reported and potential vulnerabilities in OSPF protocol. Considering the complexity and the ambiguity of its description in RFC 2328, it is very valuable to design a formal model of the protocol and analyze the vulnerabilities of its critical parts. In this paper, some challenging parts of OSPF protocol along with attack scenarios are modeled by means of Colored Petri Net in CPN Tools environment. Then, the reported vulnerabilities are analyzed by...

    Abstract
The location problem is one of the main topics at the strategic level. This problem is investigated along with many areas such as network design and path covering problems. Routing between source and destination nodes is done in such a way that maximizes traffic coverage and reduces costs as much as possible. Routing problems are considered in goods distribution areas and urban transit systems. Goods distribution from set of cross-docks can help to reduce costs and improve resource efficiency. So, this topic is considered in this research and a suitable model is proposed. Defining and developing of the road and rail transportation networks are main topics in urban traffic management which...

Analysis and Evaluation of Router Security Based on a Routing Protocol

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Tizpaz Niari, Saeed (Author) ; Jahangir, Amir Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The importance of routers in information transfer among networks is critical. Thus, vulnerabilities and security deficiencies in routers and the related services like routing protocols can be destructive not only for some hosts, but also for the whole network. Hence, it is necessary that 1) vulnerabilities related to the routers and their services be evaluated and analyzed, and 2) the functional aspects of routers related to the vulnerabilities be formally modeled and analyzed. In this thesis, we present a method for the evaluation and the analysis of OSPF routing protocol from the security point of view. First, reported vulnerabilities on the OSPF are collected and evaluated by a...

    Abstract
Cloud Manufacturing (CMfg), a new manufacturing paradigm, enables an opportunity for manufacturing enterprises to respond to a wide variety of demands. The CMfg concept integrates the distributed resources and capacities in a shared economy, transfers them to the virtual manufacturing services with various quality of service (QoS) properties. These services are invoked to collaborate in producing customized demands with specific functional and non-functional properties. The operational perspective of the service-demand matching problem is considered more in the literature; however, it is a challenging problem in the CMfg ecosystem. This paper evaluates the service-demand matching problem...

A hybrid root transformation and decision on belief approach to monitor multiattribute Poisson processes

    , Article International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology ; Volume 75, Issue 9-12 , December , 2014 , Pages 1651-1660 ; ISSN: 02683768 Niaki, S. T. A ; Javadi, S ; Fallahnezhad, M. S ; Sharif University of Technology
    2014
    Abstract
Most of industrial applications of statistical process control involve more than one quality characteristics to be monitored. These characteristics are usually correlated, causing challenges for the monitoring methods. These challenges are resolved using multivariate quality control charts that have been widely developed in recent years. Nonetheless, multivariate process monitoring methods encounter a problem when the quality characteristics are of the attribute type and follow nonnormal distributions such as multivariate binomial or multivariate Poisson. Since the data analysis in the latter case is not as easy as the normal case, more complexities are involved to monitor multiattribute...

A probabilistic artificial neural network-based procedure for variance change point estimation

    , Article Soft Computing ; Vol. 19, issue. 3 , May , 2014 , pp. 691-700 ; ISSN: 14327643 Amiri, A ; Niaki, S. T. A ; Moghadam, A. T ; Sharif University of Technology
    2014
    Abstract
Control charts are useful tools of monitoring quality characteristics. One of the problems of employing a control chart is that the time it alarms is not synchronic with the time when assignable cause manifests itself in the process. This makes difficult to search and find assignable causes. Knowing the real time of manifestation of assignable cause (change point) helps to find assignable cause(s) sooner and eases corrective actions to be taken. In this paper, a probabilistic neural network (PNN)-based procedure was developed to estimate the variance change point of a normally distributed quality characteristic. The PNN was selected based on trial and error among different types of...

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering ; Volume 52, Issue 2 , 2005 , Pages 221-228 ; 00189294 (ISSN) Nasiri Amini, A ; Ebbini, E. S ; Georgiou, T. T ; Sharif University of Technology
    2005
    Abstract
We address the noninvasive temperature estimation from pulse-echo radio frequency signals from standard diagnostic ultrasound imaging equipment. In particular, we investigate the use of a high-resolution spectral estimation method for tracking frequency shifts at two or more harmonic frequencies associated with temperature change. The new approach, employing generalized second-order statistics, is shown to produce superior frequency shift estimates when compared to conventional high-resolution spectral estimation methods Seip and Ebbini (1995). Furthermore, temperature estimates from the new algorithm are compared with results from the more commonly used echo shift method described in Simon...

A risk-Adjusted multi-Attribute cumulative sum control scheme in health-care systems

    , Article IEEE International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management ; 2014 , pp: 1102-1106 ; ISSN: 21573611 Shojaei, S. N ; Niaki, S. T. A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2014
    Abstract
Hospitals increasingly use control charts to monitor clinical processes and their outcomes. In medical context, control charts should have stable performance when different patients with different levels of risk enter the hospital. In order to monitor multi-Attribute medical processes, we propose a new control chart with entities having different levels of risk. First, risk-Adjusted multivariate cumulative sum control chart (RA-MCUSUM) is developed. Then, simulation experiences are performed to demonstrate the application and to evaluate its performance in terms of in-control average run length (ARL0) stability with the one of a standard MCUSUM chart. The results show that while the standard...

A hybrid method of artificial neural networks and simulated annealing in monitoring auto-correlated multi-attribute processes

    , Article International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology ; Volume 56, Issue 5-8 , 2011 , Pages 777-788 ; 02683768 (ISSN) Niaki, S. T. A ; Akbari Nasaji, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
The quality characteristics of both manufacturing and service industries include not only the variables but the attributes as well. While a substantial research have been performed on auto-correlated variables, little attempt has been fulfilled for auto-correlated attributes. Ignoring the imbedded autocorrelation structure in constructing control charts cause not only the in-control run length to decrease, but also the false alarms to increase. To overcome these shortcomings, in this research, an autoregressive vector first models the autocorrelation structure of the process data. Then, a modified Elman neural network is developed to generate simulated data using the ARTA algorithm. Next, a...

    , Article IET Signal Processing ; Volume 5, Issue 4 , July , 2011 , Pages 379-389 ; 17519675 (ISSN) Khosravirad, S. R ; Eghlidos, T ; Ghaemmaghami, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
This study introduces a new scheme for steganalysis of the least significant bit (LSB) embedding, based on the idea of closure of sets (CoS), which is independent of the type of cover signal, applicable to both spatial and transform domains. The CoS is referred to as some special subsets that could be found in a common space whose elements relate to higher-order statistical properties of the signal. The proposed scheme is used for steganalysis of the LSB steganography of greyscale TIFF and JPEG images and audio signals, employing a set of accurate and monotone features that are extracted based on the CoS definition. It is shown that significant improvement to the detection accuracy in...

Capacitated location allocation problem with stochastic location and fuzzy demand: A hybrid algorithm

    , Article Applied Mathematical Modelling ; Volume 37, Issue 7 , 2013 , Pages 5109-5119 ; 0307904X (ISSN) Mousavi, S. M ; Akhavan Niaki, S. T ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this article, a capacitated location allocation problem is considered in which the demands and the locations of the customers are uncertain. The demands are assumed fuzzy, the locations follow a normal probability distribution, and the distances between the locations and the customers are taken Euclidean and squared Euclidean. The fuzzy expected cost programming, the fuzzy β-cost minimization model, and the credibility maximization model are three types of fuzzy programming that are developed to model the problem. Moreover, two closed-form Euclidean and squared Euclidean expressions are used to evaluate the expected distance between customers and facilities. In order to solve the problem...

    Abstract
This paper presents a new scheme for steganalysis of random LSB embedding, capable of applying to any kind of digital signal in both spatial and transform domains. The proposed scheme is based on defining a space whose elements relate to higher-order statistical properties of the signal and looking for special subsets, which we call Closure of Sets (CoS) in this space. We use this scheme for steganalysis of the LSB steganography in grayscale images, employing a vector of five accurate and monotone features. Experimental results show significantly higher accuracy of the proposed scheme, as compared to those reported in the literature, especially in low embedding rates applications. © 2009...

An intelligent hybrid classification algorithm integrating fuzzy rule-based extraction and harmony search optimization: Medical diagnosis applications

    , Article Knowledge-Based Systems ; Volume 220 , 2021 ; 09507051 (ISSN) Mousavi, S. M ; Abdullah, S ; Akhavan Niaki, S. T ; Banihashemi, S ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Uncertainty is a critical factor in medical datasets needed to be overcome for increasing diagnosis efficiency. This paper proposes an intelligent classification algorithm comprising a fuzzy rule-based approach, a harmony search (HS) algorithm, and a heuristic algorithm to classify medical datasets intelligently. Two fuzzy approaches, as well as orthogonal and triangular fuzzy sets, are first utilized to define the attributes of data. Then, an HS algorithm is integrated with a heuristic to generate fuzzy rules to select the best rules in the fuzzy rule-based systems. Moreover, to improve the performance of the proposed classification approach, a three-phase parameter tuning approach is...

    , Article Journal of Manufacturing Systems ; Volume 32, Issue 4 , 2013 , Pages 764-770 ; 02786125 (ISSN) Pasandideh, S. H. R ; Niaki, S. T. A ; Sharafzadeh, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
In this paper, a bi-objective multi-products economic production quantity (EPQ) model is developed, in which the number of orders is limited and imperfect items that are re-workable are produced. The objectives of the problem are minimization of the total inventory costs as well as minimizing the required warehouse space. The model is shown to be of a bi-objective nonlinear programming type, and in order to solve it two meta-heuristic algorithms namely, the non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA-II) and multi-objective particle swarm optimization (MOPSO) algorithm, are proposed. To verify the solution obtained and to evaluate the performance of proposed algorithms, two-sample t-tests...

Unreliability of mutual information as a measure for variations in total correlations

    Abstract
Correlations disguised in various forms underlie a host of important phenomena in classical and quantum systems, such as information and energy exchanges. The quantum mutual information and the norm of the correlation matrix are both considered as proper measures of total correlations. We demonstrate that, when applied to the same system, these two measures can actually show significantly different behavior except at least in two limiting cases: when there are no correlations and when there is maximal quantum entanglement. We further quantify the discrepancy by providing analytic formulas for time derivatives of the measures for an interacting bipartite system evolving unitarily. We argue...

Correlation-enabled energy exchange in quantum systems without external driving

    , Article Physical Review A ; Volume 105, Issue 2 , 2022 ; 24699926 (ISSN) Pyhäranta, T ; Alipour, S ; Rezakhani, A. T ; Ala Nissila, T ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
We study the role of correlation in mechanisms of energy exchange between an interacting bipartite quantum system and its environment by decomposing the energy of the system to local and correlation-related contributions. When the system Hamiltonian is time independent, no external work is performed. In this case, energy exchange between the system and its environment occurs only due to the change in the state of the system. We investigate the possibility of a special case where the energy exchange with the environment occurs exclusively due to changes in the correlation between the constituent parts of the bipartite system, while their local energies remain constant. We find sufficient...

Optimizing a hybrid vendor-managed inventory and transportation problem with fuzzy demand: An improved particle swarm optimization algorithm

    , Article Information Sciences ; Vol. 272 , July , 2014 , pp. 126-144 ; ISSN: 00200255 Sadeghi, J ; Sadeghi, S ; Niaki, S. T. A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2014
    Abstract
Vendor-managed inventory (VMI) is a popular policy in supply chain management (SCM) to decrease bullwhip effect. Since the transportation cost plays an important role in VMI and because the demands are often fuzzy, this paper develops a VMI model in a multi-retailer single-vendor SCM under the consignment stock policy. The aim is to find optimal retailers' order quantities so that the total inventory and transportation cost are minimized while several constraints are satisfied. Because of the NP-hardness of the problem, an algorithm based on particle swarm optimization (PSO) is proposed to find a near optimum solution, where the centroid defuzzification method is employed for...
