    Abstract
    This study examines the behaviour of credit rating agencies during the credit crunch and compares it with normal economic conditions. The rating agencies claim that when assessing the credibility of firms over time, they can distinguish between short-term and long-term factors of credit shocks. To evaluate this claim, using Moody's rating data and variables that represent the macroeconomic conditions and financial and business risks, we study whether there is a difference in the tendency of rating agencies to downgrade the rating of firms in the periods of the credit crunch.     A mobile ad hoc network is a collection of mobile hosts forming a temporary network on the fly, without using any fixed infrastructure. Characteristics of mobile ad hoc networks such as lack of central coordination, mobility of hosts, dynamically varying network topology, and limited availability of resources make QoS provisioning very challenging in such networks.     Uniaxial compression test at different temperatures [573 K to 723 K (300 °C to 450 °C)] and strain rates (0.01 to 1 s−1) was employed to study the hot deformation behavior of an ultrafine-grained (UFG) Al6063 alloy prepared by the powder metallurgy route. The UFG alloy with an average grain size of ~0.3 µm was prepared by mechanical milling of a gas-atomized aluminum alloy powder for 20 hours followed by hot powder extrusion at 723 K (450 °C).     Ad hoc wireless networks are power constrained since nodes operate with a limited battery energy. To maximize the lifetime of these networks, transactions through mobile nodes must be controlled such that the power dissipation rates of all nodes are rarely the same. This paper presents a fuzzy extension to Ad hoc On demand Distance Vector routing protocol with power considerations. The path selected by conventional AODV routing protocol is not the optimal path because AODV selects the first path that has been found which is not necessarily the best.     Abstract
    In this study the biodegradability of asphaltenes was investigated using four bacterial consortia isolated from oil contaminated soils and sludge. The species in consortium 1 were identified as Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Pseudomonas fluorescens. Consortium 2 contained Citrobacter amalonaticus and Enterobacter cloacae. Consortium 3 contained only one species identified as Staphylococcus hominis, and the species in consortium 4 were identified as Bacillus cereus, and Lysinibacillus fusiformis. Spectrophotometry at 281 nm wavelength was applied to quantify asphaltenes biodegradation.     Abstract
    The bacterial strain MJ01 was isolated from stock tank water of one of the Iranian south oil field production facilities. The 16S rRNA gene of isolate, MJ01, showed 99% similarity to Bacillus subtilis. The results revealed that biosurfactant produced by this strain was lipopeptide-like surfactin based on FTIR analysis. Critical micelle concentration of produced surfactin in distilled water was 0.06 g/l. Wettability study showed that at zero salinity surfactin can change original oil-wet state to water-wet state, but in seawater salinity it cannot modify the wettability significantly.     The preparation and characterization of new heteronuclear-platinum(ii) complexes containing a 1,1'-bis(diphenylphosphino)ferrocene (dppf) ligand are described. The reaction of the known starting complex [PtMe(κ2N,C-bipyO-H)(SMe2)], A, in which bipyO-H is a cyclometalated rollover 2,2'-bipyridine N-oxide, with the dppf ligand in a 2:1 ratio or an equimolar ratio led to the formation of the corresponding binuclear complex [Pt2Me2(κ2N,C-bipyO-H)2(μ-dppf)], 1, or the mononuclear complex [PtMe(κ1C-bipyO-H)(dppf)], 2, respectively.     Laminar forced convection flow through a channel partially filled with a porous material was numerically studied in this thesis. The Navier-Stokes and Brinkman-Forchheimer equations were used to model the fluid flow in the free and porous regions, respectively. Coupling of the pressure and velocity fields was resolved using the SIMPLEC algorithm. The local thermal equilibrium was adopted in the energy equation.
