Abstract
Simultaneous reductions in inventory of raw materials, work-in-process, and finished items have recently become a major focus in supply chain management. Vendor-managed inventory is a well-known practice in supply chain collaborations, in which manufacturer manages inventory at the retailer and decides about the time and replenishment. In this paper, an integrated vendor-managed inventory model is presented for a two-level supply chain structured as a single capacitated manufacturer at the first level and multiple retailers at the second level. Manufacturer produces different products where demands are assumed decreasing functions of retail prices. In this chain, both the manufacturer and...
Robust optimization approach for an aggregate production–distribution planning in a three-level supply chain
, Article International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology ; Vol. 76, issue. 1-4 , 2014 , p. 623-634 ; Niaki, S. T. A ; Pasandideh, S. H. R ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
An aggregate production–distribution (P-D) planning generates an aggregate plan for regular time, overtime, outsourcing, hiring, and firing that takes into account distributing, inventory holding, backordering, and machine capacity for a definite planning horizon. A large number of P-D problems require decisions to be made in the presence of uncertainty. Previous research on this topic mainly utilized either stochastic programming or fuzzy programming to cope with the uncertainty. This may lead into huge challenges for supply chain managers that use non-robust P-D planning in uncertain environments. Moreover, there has been little discussion about robust optimization approach in aggregate...

Abstract
Inspired by an upward stochastic walking idea, a new ensemble pruning method called simulated quenching walking (SQWALKING) is developed in this paper. The rationale behind this method is to give values to stochastic movements as well as to accept unvalued solutions during the investigation of search spaces. SQWALKING incorporates simulated quenching and forward selection methods to choose the models through the ensemble using probabilistic steps. Two versions of SQWALKING are introduced based on two different evaluation measures; SQWALKINGA that is based on an accuracy measure and SQWALKINGH that is based on a human-like foresight measure. The main objective is to construct a proper...
Fair profit contract for a carrier collaboration framework in a green hub network under soft time-windows: Dual lexicographic max-min approach

Abstract
This paper models a novel and practical bi-objective hub-location problem under a centralized carrier collaboration framework between one holding company and multiple carriers. The holding company first establishes a hub-and-spoke network in order to locate p hubs and to assign the center nodes to the located hubs. Then, it allocates the transportation routes of the hub network to the carriers. In contrast, the carriers should select an appropriate vehicle type to serve the transportation requests in a green hub network. The carriers are also able to meet the transportation requests within a certain time-window based on a soft time-window mechanism. Moreover, aiming to emphasize green...

Abstract
This paper introduces a novel and practical vendor selection problem of a firm that cooperates with multiple geographically dispersed stores. In this problem, the firm entrusts some of its business process to external vendors, and each store can split the ordered quantity between one or more potential vendors, represented as a multi-sourcing strategies. Moreover, the Cobb–Douglas demand function is utilised to establish a relationship between the market demand and the selling price; representing price-sensitive demand. This paper seeks to choose the best vendors, to allocate the stores to them, and to find the optimal values for inventory-related decisions. The approach is based on the...

Abstract
The reliability of machinery and automated guided vehicle has been one of the most important challenges to enhance production efficiency in several manufacturing systems. Reliability improvement would result in a simultaneous reduction of both production times and transportation costs of the materials, especially in automated guided vehicles. This article aims to conduct a practical multi-objective reliability optimization model for both automated guided vehicles and the machinery involved in a job-shop manufacturing system, where different machines and the storage area through some parallel automated guided vehicles handle materials, parts, and other production needs. While similar machines...

Abstract
This paper introduces a novel and practical integration of the inventory control and vendor selection problems for a manufacturing system that provides multiple products for several stores located in different places. The replenishment policy of each store is the economic order quantity under a multi-sourcing strategy in which the demand rate decreases as the selling price increases. In this strategy, the ordered quantity of each store for each product can be replenished by a set of selected vendors among all. In addition, the selected vendors can deliver the required products within a certain time window based on a soft time-window mechanism. The aim is to minimize the total system cost and...

Abstract
This paper introduces a new hub-and-center transportation network problem for a new company competing against an operating company. The new company intends to locate p hubs and assign the center nodes to the located hubs in order to form origin–destination pairs. It desires not only to maximize the total captured flow in the market but also aims to minimize the total transportation cost. Three competition rules are established between the companies which must be abided. According to the competition rules, the new company can capture the full percentage of the traffic in each origin-destination pair if its transportation cost for each route is significantly less than of the competitor. If its...

Abstract
In real applications of hub networks, the travel times may vary due to traffic, climate conditions, and land or road type. To facilitate this difficulty, in this paper, the travel times are assumed to be characterized by trapezoidal fuzzy variables to present a fuzzy capacitated single allocation p-hub centre transportation (FCSApHCP) with uncertain information. The proposed FCSApHCP is redefined into its equivalent parametric integer non-linear programming problem using credibility constraints. The aim is to determine the location of p capacitated hubs and the allocation of centre nodes to them in order to minimize the maximum travel time in a hub-and-centre network under uncertain...

Abstract
In this project, modification of reverse osmosis membrane was investigated in order to reduce the biofouling in treatment of brackish water. Furthermore, the technique which is used to attain the favorable results is graft polymerization to modify the membrane’s surface with grafting acrylic acid as hydrophilic monomer onto polyamide exploited as last layer in reverse osmosis membrane. This technique is a free radical grafting, andfree radicals which are needed for grafting are provided by the redox system potassium persulfate-sodium metabisulfite which was used as initiator. To figure out the best concentration of acrylic acid, initiator and process time in order to achieve a new membrane...

Abstract
In this paper, we evaluate the capacity of Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) systems using directional antennas in non-isotropic scattering environments. Our analytical analysis approach results in closed-form approximate formulas in low Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) regime (in contrast to previous research works which have investigated the same problem by employing experimental or simulation frameworks). We propose an upper bound for the introduced approximate error. Our results show that MIMO systems equipped with directional antennas may have much higher capacity in nonisotropic scattering environments compared to MIMO systems equipped with omni-directional antennas. We also evaluate...

Abstract
This paper addresses dynamic cell formation problem (DCFP) which has been explored vastly for several years. Although a considerable body of literature in this filed, two remarkable aspects have been significantly ignored so far, as uncertainty and human-related issues. In order to compensate such a shortage, this paper develops a bi-objective stochastic model. The first objective function of the developed model seeks to minimize total cost of machine procurement, machine relocation, inter-cell moves, overtime utilization, worker hiring/laying-off, and worker moves between cells; while the second objective function maximizes labor utilization of the cellular manufacturing system. In the...

Abstract
In this paper, trace locality of reference (LoR) is identified as a mechanism to predict the behavior of a variety of systems. If two objects were accessed nearby in the past and the first one is accessed again, trace LoR predicts that the second one will be accessed in near future. To capture trace LoR, trace graph is introduced. Although trace LoR can be observed in a variety of systems, but the focus of this paper is to characterize it for data accesses in memory management systems. In this field, it is compared with recency-based prediction (LRU stack) and it is shown that not only the model is much simpler, but also it outperforms recency-based prediction in all cases. The paper...

Abstract
It is now known that at least 10% of samples with pancreatic cancers (PC) contain a causative mutation in the known susceptibility genes, suggesting the importance of identifying cancer-associated genes that carry the causative mutations in high-risk individuals for early detection of PC. In this study, we develop a statistical pipeline using a new concept, called gene-motif, that utilizes both mutated genes and mutational processes to identify 4211 3-nucleotide PC-associated gene-motifs within 203 significantly mutated genes in PC. Using these gene-motifs as distinguishable features for pancreatic cancer subtyping results in identifying five PC subtypes with distinguishable phenotypes and...

Abstract
The axial turbine is one of the most challenging components of gas turbines for industrial and aerospace applications. With the ever-increasing requirement for high-aerodynamic performance blades, three-dimensional aerodynamic shape optimization is of great importance. In this research, the rear part of a gas turbine consisting of a one-stage axial turbine is optimized numerically. A useful optimization algorithm is presented to improve the efficiency and/or pressure ratio of the axial turbine with two different objective functions. The three-dimensional blade-shape optimization is employed to study the effects of the turbine stator and rotor lean and sweep angles on the turbine performance....

Abstract
A high quality joint of zinc based pressure die cast alloys can be hardly achieved by conventional fusion welding. In this study, a novel technique to achieve the globular weld structure using stirring the localized semisolid zone during butt joining of Zamak-3 pressure die cast alloy is proposed and effect of welding parameters on mechanical and microstructural properties are investigated. A gas heating system was designed to heat up the nitrogen gas to desired temperature accurately to create a localized semisolid pool. At this stage a fine stirrer was introduced into the weld seam in order to mix the two sides into a single uniform joint. By presented process, globular microstructure of...

Abstract
The human protein disulfide isomerase (hPDI), is an essential four-domain multifunctional enzyme. As a result of disulfide shuffling in its terminal domains, hPDI exists in two oxidation states with different conformational preferences which are important for substrate binding and functional activities. Here, we address the redox-dependent conformational dynamics of hPDI through molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. Collective domain motions are identified by the principal component analysis of MD trajectories and redox-dependent opening-closing structure variations are highlighted on projected free energy landscapes. Then, important structural features that exhibit considerable differences...
