Abstract
Graft copolymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) was carried out on bagasse fibers in an aqueous medium using eerie ammonium nitrate (CAN) as initiator under a neutral atmosphere. In order to obtain the optimum condition for graft copolymerization, the effects of initiator concentration, temperature, time of reaction, and monomer concentration were studied. The maximum grafting percent was found to be 122%. The bagasse grafted poly(methyl methacrylate) was characterized by FTIR and its thermal behavior was characterized by TGA. Abstract
Effective classification of motor imagery electroencephalograph (EEG) data is an important challenge. Spatial filtering such as Common Spatial Pattern (CSP) and its variants are commonly used for this task. However, CSP effectiveness depends on the subject-specific frequency band. Even by optimally selecting a subject-specific frequency band, this method still fails for some subjects. On the other hand, some studies suggest that temporal features may discriminate classes more efficiently. This work proposes a hybrid method based on elastic net and Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selector Operator (LASSO) to optimally select between spatial and temporal features. This algorithm uses joint...

Abstract
Object-oriented application frameworks, such as Java Swing, provide reusable code and design for implementing domain-specific concepts, such as Context Menu, in software applications. Hence, use of such frameworks not only can decrease the time and the cost of developing new software applications, but also can increase their maintainability. However, the main problems of using object-oriented application frameworks are their large and complex APIs, and often incomplete user manuals. To mitigate these problems, developers often try to learn how to implement their desired concepts from available sample applications. Nonetheless, this introduces another hard and time-consuming challenge which...
Classification of Motor Imagery in Electroencephalogram Signal Based on Spatio-temporal Feature selection Using Elastic Net
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Jahed, Mehran (Supervisor)
Abstract
Motor imagery causes Event related Synchronization/Desynchronization (ERS/ERD) in Electroencephalogram (EEG) signal. These potentials can be used as an input for a Brain Computer Interface (BCI) system. To do so, it is necessary for these inputs to be correctly classified. The quality of classification is severely affected by the features extracted. Common Spatial Patterns (CSP) algorithm is often used for this task. Some of this method disadvantages are neglecting non-stationary properties of EEG signal and its proneness to overfitting. Additionally, its success is highly dependent on the frequency band that the algorithm is performed in. The most suitable sub band is interchangeable...
Design and Implementation of a Search Engine for Sample Applications of Object-Oriented Framework-Provided Concepts
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Heydarnoori, Abbas (Supervisor)
Abstract
An object-oriented application framework, like Eclipse, not only provides a framework for designing and implementing new applications, but also decreases the time and the cost of developing new software applications. Moreover, theseframeworks increase the maintainability of software systems. Therefore, their popularity is on the rise. The main problem of using object-oriented application frameworks is the lack of proper documentations and guides. Thus, developers often try to learn how to implement their desired concepts (e.g., Context Menu) from available sample applications. This leads the programmers to another problem which is finding the sample applications. Finding a proper sample...

Abstract
Biosurfactants can enhance oil recovery by decreasing the interfacial tension between water and oil, and altering the rock's wettability. In this study, the effect of two low molecular-weight glycolipid biosurfactants (rhamnolipid and sophorolipid) on enhancing oil recovery was investigated. The biosurfactants were economically produced from waste sunflower oil. The qualitative oil dispersion experiments were used to evaluate the biosurfactants’ ability to separate oil, Surface tension and interfacial tension tests were carried out at various salinity rates. The potential of rhamnolipid and sophorolipid solutions to alter carbonate rock from an oil-wet state to a water-wet state was studied...

Abstract
In the present work, accumulative roll bonding (ARB) was used as an effective method for manufacturing nanoparticle/Al composite filler metals of tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding. After welding, the distribution of ceramic nanoparticles and mechanical properties of welds were investigated. By applying ARB, ceramic nanoparticles were uniformly dispersed in the composite filler metals. Consequently, the welds produced by these filler metals had a uniform dispersion of ceramic nanoparticles in their compositions. The test results showed that the yield strength of welds was greatly increased when using the nanoparticle/Al composite filler metals. The improvement in the yield strength was...

Abstract
Stray capacitance of transformer winding is an important parasitic element influencing the behavior of the switching power converters, especially for high-voltage transformers. There are various methods for calculating the stray capacitance in transformers and inductors with ordered windings. However, an ordered winding is less likely with an increased number of turns and layers. In this paper, it is shown that a slight disorderliness in winding leads to a considerable difference between the value of winding stray capacitance of the former ordered winding and its slightly disordered scheme. Therefore, regular methods for calculating the stray capacitance have significant errors in a...

Abstract
Microwave power modules are the result of integration of vacuum tubes and their respective power supplies. In these modules, volume and weight are very important factors because the modules are used in many portable applications. There are many parameters that they affect the volume and weight of the microwave power module. High voltage issues are one of these factors because the required voltages of vacuum tubes are high voltage. Thermal management relates to the module volume directly. In high-voltage high-frequency converters as power supplies of vacuum tubes, parasitic elements of the transformer are dominant. Tuning the transformer parameters leads to variation in the volume of the...

Abstract
We introduce two Gentzen-style sequent calculus axiomatizations for conservative extensions of basic propositional logic. Our first axiomatization is an ipmrovement of [1], in the sense that it has a kind of the subformula property and is a slight modification of [6]. In this system the cut rule is eliminated. The second axiomatization is a classical conservative extension of basic propositional logic. Using these axiomatizations, we prove interpolation theorems for basic propositional logic. © 2001 Kluwer Academic Publishers

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Kaboli, Shahriyar (Supervisor)
Abstract
Applications of high voltage power supplies is increasing. Microwave power module is one of the applications. In microwave power module, the dimensions of the power supply are very important. On the other hand, the parasitic elements of the transformer of a high voltage power supply are significant because of high insulation distances and transformer high turn ratio. These elements including stray capacitance and leakage inductance change the converter behavior. In this thesis, a method for dimensional efficient design of high voltage power supply used in microwave power module is presented considering and analyzing the transformer parasitic elements. Beforehand, at first, the transformer...

Abstract
In high-voltage applications, due to the use of high-ratio step-up transformers, the value of parasitic capacitance of these transformers is large compared to the low-voltage transformers. Moreover In these applications it is prefered to use single-capacitor filters instead of filters with inductors. In this paper a simple electrical model for two-winding high frequency transformer considering all of the parasitic elements is presented. This model is used in a full-bridge based dc-dc converter with capacitive output filter controlled by phase-shifted method. The operation of this converter in DCM is analysed and its analytical relations in different time intervals is derived and confirmed by...

Abstract
High voltage power supplies (HVPS) are widely used to supply vacuum tubes. Regarding to their high efficiency, resonant converters are a choice of HVPS structure. In this application, HVPS is faced with wide variation of the load power. On the other hand, output voltage regulation over wide load range is essential. However, there are several problems dealing with resonant converters such as output voltage regulation and low-efficient performance in a light load. In this paper, a control scheme for a series-parallel resonant converter is presented. This scheme regulates the output voltage of the converter over load variation range. A variable inductor placed as the series inductor in the...

Abstract
The transformer leakage inductance (TLI) is an important parameter in the design phase of the isolated power supplies. Hence, the TLI estimation before the transformer construction is very useful for the designers. The previous works considered an ordered winding turn arrangement (WTA) for the transformers. This assumption considers only ideal windings which may result in a significant error from what will be achieved after the construction of the transformer. This article concentrates on the transformers with nonideal windings in which the turns are not ordered. The uneven distribution of the turns in the layers is mainly due to the wrapping machine error. Hence, for a specific transformer...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Hesabi, Shahin (Supervisor)
Abstract
As the number of processing cores on a single chip continues to grow, the need for a high bandwidth, low power communication structure, will be the most important requirement of the next generation chip multiprocessors. Today, a major part of power consumption in multicore architectures belongs to interconnects. Due to these facts, reducing power consumption, as well as supporting high performance, is of major concern in these architectures. Optical interconnects have the potential to replace electrical wires to solve the bottleneck of communications in integrated circuits. Various routers and architectures with different points of view, have been recently designed considering existing...
