    Abstract
Distal humerus fractures are complex injuries with potential implications on patient outcomes, necessitating thorough investigation and understanding of fracture characteristics and treatment options. This study employed a finite element analysis to explore the biomechanical behavior of double-plate osteosynthesis fixation for distal humerus fractures. The effects of screw diameter and angles on fixation stability and interfragmentary relative motion were evaluated using a full factorial design approach. The results revealed that screw diameter significantly influenced stiffness and normalized compression area, while interactions between entrance angles impacted axial motion control....

    Abstract
The critical strain energy release rate for crack initiation, J ci , was measured under mode I loading for SAC305 solder joints between two copper substrates. Fracture tests were performed using double cantilever beam specimens at a strain rate of 0.03 s −1 . Different bond-line widths (i.e., joint size in the out-of-plane dimension) and thicknesses, were examined. The fracture force per unit width and J ci (the average value of four J-integral contours encircling the crack tip) were relatively insensitive to the width of the joint ranging from 8 mm to 21 mm. Variations in bond-line thickness (i.e., 150 μm, 250 μm and 450 μm) also had an insignificant influence on the fracture energy of...

Effect of Environmental Conditions on Fracture Behavior of Solder Joints

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Honarvar, Sobhan (Author) ; Nourani, Amir (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Double cantilever beam (DCB) specimens were prepared according to standard surface mount technology (SMT). The samples were stored inside an environmental chamber at two different relative humidity values (i.e. 40 or 100%) for either 2 or 4 hours. Then they were aged at 25ºC, 75ºC or 125℃ for the same time. Finally, after being cooled to room temperature, fracture tests were performed under mode-I loading conditions at a strain rate of 0.03 s-1 at room temperature. Storage time did not have a significant effect on the fracture behavior. The fracture load and energy of the solder joints decreased significantly when the temperature was increased from 25 to 75℃. By further increase in the...

Fracture Behavior of Solder Joints under Varying Strain Rates as a Function of Loading History

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Karimi, Mojtaba (Author) ; Nourani, Amir (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Single lap-shear (SLS) specimens of 2.54, 6.35 and 12.7 mm long SAC305 solder joints were prepared with three different adherend thicknesses. The fracture force was measured at a shear strain rate of 0.01 s-1 for different geometries in the lap-shear configuration in which mode ІІ loading is established. Elastic-plastic fracture mechanics (EPFM) theory was considered to find the energy dissipated in each case using a finite element model (FEM). The fracture energy was found by cohesive zone modeling (CZM) using pre-defined parameters. Both 2D and 3D models were used to explain the variations of fracture energy by evaluating the effective factors that demonstrated the level of constraints on...

Numerical Study on Stress Distribution of SolderJoints Based on Solder Microstructure

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Zarghami, Mohammad (Author) ; Nourani, Amir (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In the past, lead-based solders with homogeneous and isotropic behavior were used in microelectronic packages. But today, due to the environmental concerns of lead, lead-free solders have been developed, which consist of a high weight percentage (more than 90%) of tin. Tin crystal shows significant anisotropic behavior, which leads to an anisotropic joint response in miniature solder joints with a small number of grains. In the first part of this research, using the crystal plasticity model, the anisotropic plastic response of tin grain was extracted from bulk solder stress-strain curve, then it was implemented in Abaqus software using built-in Hill's anisotropic plasticity model to consider...

Investigating the Effect Strain Rate on the Poisson’s Ratio of Auxetic Polyurethane Foams

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Behbahani, Ali (Author) ; Nourani, Amir (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Auxetic materials have a negative Poisson ratio (NPR), which is their most distinguishable characteristic as compared to regular materials. Test specimens were made of conventional polyurethane (PU) foams according to ASTM ; then, with a thermo-mechanical process, the foam was converted to auxetic PU foam. The reproducibility of specimens' fabrication was checked with CoV= for the final foam thickness. With regard to the fact that changing loading conditions can vary Poisson's ratio, in this study, the variations occurred in Poisson's ratio due to changing loading conditions are investigated. The applied strain and strain rate were altered in experiments and statistical analysis was...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Behinfar, Parsa (Author) ; Nourani, Amir (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The present study examines the mechanical properties of auxetic stents with various types of structures. Geometries was parametrically modeled and the design of experiments (DOE) was developed by defining the elastic properties of the stents and using the response surface method (RSM). Finite element (FE) analysis was performed in order to find a polynomial relationship between the geometric parameters as inputs and the elastic parameters as the outputs. Then, the optimal stent was obtained in terms of elasticity parameters by using RSM and NSGA-II methods and the two-dimensional Pareto front was plotted. For instance, the optimal parameters of the Re-entrant stent including flexural...

    Abstract
Pretrained representations have recently gained attention in various machine learning applications. Nonetheless, the high computational costs associated with training these models have motivated alternative approaches for representation learning. Herein we introduce TripletProt, a new approach for protein representation learning based on the Siamese neural networks. Representation learning of biological entities which capture essential features can alleviate many of the challenges associated with supervised learning in bioinformatics. The most important distinction of our proposed method is relying on the protein-protein interaction (PPI) network. The computational cost of the generated...

    Abstract
Microbial enhanced oil recovery (MEOR) is receiving renewed interest worldwide in recent years as a viable method while not damaging the reservoir is proven to be remarkably effective, however to some extent costly. This method is based on microorganisms' activities to reduce residual oil of reservoirs, which is dependent on behavior of inherent microorganisms or injection of bioproduct of external microorganisms. In this work, five bacterial species were taken from MIS crude oil that is one of the aging Persian fractured reservoirs. These microorganisms are substantially strong in increasing oil recovery especially by reducing IFT and other MEOR mechanisms such as change of wettability of...

    Abstract
A reduced complexity third-order digital delta-sigma modulator for fractional-N frequency synthesis is presented. The high-performance modulator, which consists of two subblocks, has a single-bit output making it best for this sort of application. A good shaping of quantisation noise is achieved using a new architecture for a digital third-order delta-sigma modulator. The hardware required for this modulator is considerably less than that in previously reported leading to lower power and area consumption and a higher operating frequency. The field programmable gate array (FPGA) implementation of the whole system shows an SNR of at least 94 dB and an operating input range of 0.7 of the full...

Predicting fracture of solder joints with different constraint factors

    Abstract
Double cantilever beam (DCB) specimens of 2.5-mm-long SAC305 solder joints were prepared with thickness of copper adherends varying from 8 to 21 mm each. The specimens were tested under mode I loading conditions (ie, pure opening mode with no shear component of loading) with a strain rate of 0.03 second−1. The measured fracture load was used to calculate the critical strain energy release rate for crack initiation, Jci, in each case. Fracture behaviour showed a significant dependence on the adherend thickness; the Jci and plastic deformation of the solder at crack initiation decreased significantly with increase in adherend thickness. This behaviour was attributed to changes in stress...

    Abstract
With the increasing use of electronic components in various dimensions, the reliability of solder joints has been widely considered. Predicting the failure force of these connections in various configurations and under different loads has recently been the subject of scientific articles. The aim of this research is to establish a relationship between the parameters of the cohesive zone model and the damage parameter of joints. Initially, 13 unloaded specimens were pulled by a hydraulic tensile machine at a strain rate of 0.0001/sec to obtain the breaking force. By calculating the solder area, an average breaking stress of 49.8 MPa was obtained. To investigate the effect of fatigue loading on...
