Abstract
A highly efficient, cost-effective, and durable electrocatalysts based on CoNi metal–organic framework (MOF) nanosheets on highly porous conductive graphene (PCG) is introduced for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). The electrocatalyst was fabricated by template-assisted chemical vapor deposition of graphene followed by solvothermal growth of CoNi-MOF nanosheets. Highly porous 3D structure of PCG with open channels of 200–500 nm sizes provided high active surface area and facilitates gas evolution. In a highly alkaline solution, the electrocatalyst exhibits superior figures of merits, e.g. overpotential of 265 mV at −10 mA cm−2 and Tafel slope of 44.5 mV dec-1, to existing hydrogen...

Abstract
Development of active, durable, cost effective, and stable electrocatalysts are of urgent need for various industrial fields including renewable energy systems such as water splitting. State-of-the-art catalysts suffer from high cost, poor catalytic activity in alkaline medium due to sluggish kinetics. We used one-step electrochemical deposition technique to prepare NiFeCu layered double hydroxide and CoNiFeCu dendritic porous structure on Ni-foam and flexible three-dimensional graphene (3DG) networks, respectively. The fabricated 3D electrodes have a high surface area, high electrical conductivity, and multiple interfaces which along with the synergetic effect of transition metals provided...

Abstract
The development of noble-metal-free electrocatalysts with enhanced active sites is of great significance for the production of renewable energy on large scale. Ultrathin transition metal compounds (e.g., phosphides and sulfides) have unique structural features but their stability and electroactivity must still be improved for practical applications. We propose a new strategy to synthesis ultrathin sheets of Ni-Cu-Co transition metals on porous nickel and self-assemble them into yarn-shaped microspheres. Enhance catalytic activity and stability are then attained by thermochemical phosphorization without morphological modifications. We employed various analytical techniques including XRD, SEM,...

Abstract
Precious metal-free electrocatalysts based on two-dimensional nanomaterials have efficiently been used for oxygen evolution reaction; however, the low activity and stability of these materials as compared with noble metals are still distractive. We present a novel and high-performance electrocatalyst based on nanowires of mixed transition metal oxysulfide supported by three-dimensional highly porous graphene networks. Electrochemical studies indicated that the high electron transport medium of nanowires and bilayer graphene nanosheets as well as their high active surface area promote the kinetics of oxygen evolution reaction (OER). A quite small overpotential of 260 mV at the current density...

Abstract
To improve the efficiency of electrochemical processes for environmental remediation, we present a new type of hybrid nanomaterials based on leaf-like copper-based quaternary transition metals and spongy monolayer graphene. To demonstrate the functionality of the hybrid electrocatalyst, fast and competent electrooxidation of water and glucose is shown. The mechanism of improved catalysis is ascribed to the synergetic catalytic effect of quaternary Cu-Ni-Fe-Co alloy with dendritic morphology along with the highly conductive and spongy structure of the graphene monolayer. It is shown that water oxidation can be performed at a low overpotential of 315 mV to reach a current denisty of 100 mA...

Abstract
The development of active, durable, cost-effective, and stable electrocatalysts is an urgent need for various industrial fields including renewable energy systems. The state-of-the-art catalysts suffer from poor water splitting activity in alkaline media due to their sluggish kinetics, high cost, and scarcity on earth to be scaled up. Herein, we present an electrochemical analysis of a nanostructured electrocatalyst based on a face-centered cubic (FCC) copper-rich Cu-Ni-Fe-Cr-Co alloy with a quasi-spherical morphology electrodeposited on a highly porous nickel substrate. Electrochemical studies determine the enhanced electrocatalytic activity toward both hydrogen and oxygen reactions in an...

Abstract
A cost-effective, durable, and easy-to-produce improvement in bifunctional electrocatalysts for water splitting is crucial for future renewable energy systems. In this present study, shape-controlled one-dimensional (1D) phosphorized cobalt (CoP) on 3D porous nickel foam (NiF) was synthesized through successive treatment of commercial NiF with acetone and ethanol, followed by hydrothermal growth of Co and final process of phosphorization by thermochemical reactions. The evaluations of products proved reduced overpotential (270 mV at 10 mA. cm−2 for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) process and a low overpotential of 320 mV to reach a high current density of 20 mA. cm−2), low Tafel slope...
Role of Non-Dimensional Numbers in Density Current Stability
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Firoozabadi, Bahar (Supervisor)
Abstract
Density currents are occurred as a result of the intrusion of a dense fluid into a fluid with a different density. Density differences are typically caused by the difference in temperature, existence of solution or insoluble material and suspended solids. A special kind of density current is called a turbidity current which is a sediment-laden density current. This is a kind of flow which is driven by the force of gravity on suspended sediment particles that causes an excess fractional density with respect to the surrounding ambient fluid. In this work, the 2-D sediment-laden density current on a sloping surface of the channel is investigated through experiments. The channel is 12 m long,...

Abstract
The structure of turbidity currents released on a sloping bed below fresh water is investigated. Kaolin is used as a suspended material. Laboratory observations indicate that if a dense layer moves through the channel, the current thickness increases due to a hydraulic jump. This phenomenon occurs under special inlet conditions and has a significant effect on the current structure including velocity profile, current height and bed shear stress. Flows with different inlet Froude numbers based on various inlet concentrations behave more distinctly than those based on different inlet opening heights. Laboratory experiments indicate that an increase in the inlet Froude number causes an increase...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Moshfegh, Alireza (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this project, the photoelectrochemical properties of ZnO nanostructures modified by CdS and Graphene was studied. Firs, titanium foil was cut into rectangular shape with 1cm width and 3 cm length, cleaned by rinsing in acetone and ethanol and annealed at 4000C for an hour. As a result, a thin layer of titanium oxide was formed on Ti sheet. Then a layer of grapheme oxide was deposited on substrate using Electrophoretic deposition (EPD). After that, ZnO nanostructure was deposited on the TiO2 substrate using Electropulsation (EP) with 20 consecutive pulse followed by 3 minutes Electrodeposition (ED). Using SEM analysis, the morphology of ZnO was determined to be nanopetals in which the...
Investigating the Microstructure and Physical and Mechanical Properties of Composite Lead-Free Solder Containing Ferromagnetic Particles
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Movahedi, Mojtaba (Supervisor)
Abstract
The use of tin-lead solder alloys (Pb-Sn) has been limited due to environmental problems in recent years, and several types of research are being carried out on lead-free solder alloys. However, these solders have weaker physical and thermal properties than Pb-Sn solders. In recent years, researchers have been trying to improve these solders' physical and mechanical properties by adding reinforcing particles to the solder and using a magnetic field during melting and solidifying the solder. On the other hand, with the growth path of miniaturization and, simultaneously, compaction and integration of electronic equipment, electronic circuits should have higher current density, better...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Mardani, Amir (Supervisor)
Abstract
This project investigates the effect of plasma on diffusion flame. A Dielectric Barrier Discharge (DBD) plasma actuator has been used to generate plasma, which converts fuel-air non-premixed mixtures into plasma. Then, the effect of plasma on the shape and stability of the diffusion flame composed of fuel and air mixture has been evaluated. This study investigates the laminar flow regime for low calorific value fuels. For this purpose, natural gas fuel (urban methane) has been diluted with N2 and CO2 gases to reduce its calorific value. Then, the diffusion flame is formed from the fuel and air mixture in a laboratory stand. This stand consists of two coaxial tubes made of quartz, fuel flows...

Abstract
Image fusion means to integrate information from one image to another image. Medical images according to the nature of the images are divided into structural (such as CT and MRI) and functional (such as SPECT, PET). This article fused MRI and PET images and the purpose is adding structural information from MRI to functional information of PET images. The images decomposed with Nonsubsampled Contourlet Transform and then two images were fused with applying fusion rules. The coefficients of the low frequency band are combined by a maximal energy rule and coefficients of the high frequency bands are combined by a maximal variance rule. Finally, visual and quantitative criteria were used to...

Abstract
Echocardiography as a common place device has been widely used for diagnosis. Segmentation of left ventricle just using the standard level set formulation based on the magnitude of intensity cannot restrict the contour evolution completely due to the lack of sharp edges. This paper aims to introduce a robust method for segmentation of three-dimensional echocardiography images based on two boundary maps namely distance map and probabilistic map as stopping criteria of contour evolution which are extracted using two different approaches. The distance map is extracted by applying Free Form Deformation (FFD) method on manually determined landmarks of initial spherical volume to register the...

Abstract
In this paper, an efficient approach for ultrasonic object segmentation with special application for left ventricle segmentation in echocardiography images is proposed. At first, an efficient hybrid trend for ultrasonic image edge detection is suggested. Then, a modified level set approach is introduced based on the extracted edges and the computed probabilistic map as the stopping criteria for the contour evolution. Both synthetic and clinical images are utilized as validation measures with respect to the prior techniques which indicate outperform results quantitatively and qualitatively. Left ventricle segmentation using proposed method illustrates expert-approved performance, providing a...

Abstract
Vertically aligned ZnO nanowires (NWs) hybridized with reduced graphene oxide sheets (rGO) were applied in efficient visible light photoinactivation of bacteria. To incorporate graphene oxide (GO) sheets within the NWs two different methods of drop-casting and electrophoretic deposition (EPD) were utilized. The EPD method yielded effective penetration of the positively charged GO sheets into the NWs to form a spider net-like structure, whereas the drop-casting method resulted in only a surface coverage of the GO sheets on top of the NWs. The electrical connection between the EPD-incorporated sheets and the NWs was checked by monitoring the electron transfer from UV-assisted photoexcited ZnO...

Abstract
Automatic extraction of the varying regions of magnetic resonance images is required as a prior step in a diagnostic intelligent system. The sparsest representation and high-dimensional feature are provided based on learned dictionary. The classification is done by employing the technique that computes the reconstruction error locally and non-locally of each pixel. The acquired results from the real and simulated images are superior to the best MRI segmentation method with regard to the stability advantages. In addition, it is segmented exactly through a formula taken from the distance and sparse factors. Also, it is done automatically taking sparse factor in unsupervised clustering methods...
