, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Omrani Pournava, Amir Mohsen (Author) ; Khoei, Amir Reza (Supervisor) ; Jahanshahi, Mohsan (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
In this study, a novel multi-scale hierarchical method has been employed to explore the role of edge dislocation on Nano-plates with hexagonal atomic structure in large deformation. multiscale hierarchical atomistic/molecular dynamics (MD) finite element (FE) coupling methods are proposed to demonstrate the impact of dislocation on mechanical properties of Magnesium in large deformation. The atomic nonlinear elastic parameters are attained via computing first-order derivation of stress with respect to strain of Representative Volume Element (RVE). To associate between atomistic and continuum level, the mechanical characteristics are captured in the atomistic scale and transferred to the...

As petroleum resources are not steadily distributed in the world and all industries and manufacturing sections are dependent on these resources, petroleum transportation is very important to the extent that availability of these resources occurs in the fastest time and costing the least possible. The objective of this study is to study the petroleum distribution through time in the world and assess its transportation efficacy during 1965-2005 in 173 countries. Collecting information about petroleum distribution between exporting countries to importing ones helped to complete the study data base. Also in this study two transportation networks, sea and land multimodal transportation network...

Photo-induced growth of silver nanoparticles using UV sensitivity of cellulose fibers

    , Article Applied Surface Science ; Volume 258, Issue 7 , 2012 , Pages 2373-2377 ; 01694332 (ISSN) Omrani, A. A ; Taghavinia, N ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
A simple method has been demonstrated to grow silver nanoparticles on the surface of cellulose fibers. The preparation is based on photo-activation of surface by ultraviolet (UV) photons, followed by chemical reduction of silver nitrate. It is found that the concentration of silver nitrate in the solution is not a determining factor, while UV intensity affects the rate of initial growth and determines the final concentration of the loaded silver. We explain the phenomena based on a model including the number of reducing sites on the surface of cellulose fibers activated by UV photons, and a release mechanism that causes a slow rate of dissolution of silver back into the solution

Effect of permeability heterogeneity on the dissolution process during carbon dioxide sequestration in saline aquifers: two-and three-dimensional structures

    , Article Geomechanics and Geophysics for Geo-Energy and Geo-Resources ; Volume 8, Issue 2 , 2022 ; 23638419 (ISSN) Mahyapour, R ; Mahmoodpour, S ; Singh, M ; Omrani, S ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Abstract: The convection–diffusion process of carbon dioxide (CO2) dissolution in a saline reservoir is investigated to shed light on the effects of the permeability heterogeneity. Using sequential Gaussian simulation method, random permeability fields in two and three-dimension (2D and 3D) structures are generated. Quantitative (average amount of the dissolved CO2 and dissolution flux) and qualitative (pattern of the dissolved CO2 and velocity streamlines) measurements are used to investigate the results. A 3D structure shows a slightly higher dissolution flux than a 2D structure in the homogeneous condition. Results in the random permeability fields in 2D indicates an increase in the...

A novel equation to calculate primary drainage capillary pressure based on a porous plate model: Theory and application

    , Article Chemical Engineering Research and Design ; Volume 195 , 2023 , Pages 247-259 ; 02638762 (ISSN) Omrani, H ; Hajipour, M ; Jamshidi, S ; Behnood, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Institution of Chemical Engineers  2023
    Abstract
This study aims to develop an equation for primary drainage capillary pressure as a function of water saturation based on the porous plate model. Several empirical and semiempirical equations are available to calculate Pc-Sw. The results of the previous equations are not ideal, so this is an attempt to present an accurate equation to calculate Pc-Sw based on governing theoretical physical analysis to describe two-phase immiscible displacement flow in porous media. Volumetric flow rates through the core plug and porous plate are applied to calculate the transport phenomena in porous media. The equation is derived from mass and momentum transfer through a core plug, and Darcy's law is applied...

A new method in reservoir rock classification in carbonate and sandstone formations

    , Article Journal of Geophysics and Engineering ; Volume 20, Issue 4 , 2023 , Pages 883-900 ; 17422132 (ISSN) Omrani, H ; Hajipour, M ; Jamshidi, S ; Behnood, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
This study aims to improve rock-type classification by analyzing core data based on the water-oil primary drainage capillary pressure method. A modified empirical equation is proposed using permeability, porosity, and irreducible water saturation to classify rock types based on water-oil primary drainage capillary pressure. We used primary drainage capillary pressure data measured in carbonate and sandstone samples in the Ahvaz Asmari and Mansouri oilfields to evaluate the characterization number (Cn) method. This study consists of two main parts. First, the Cn method is introduced to rock typing, and the permeability is calculated from well log data. In the second part, we present rock-type...

Numerical simulation of carbon dioxide–nitrogen mixture dissolution in water-saturated porous media: considering cross-diffusion effects

    , Article Fluids ; Volume 8, Issue 1 , 2023 ; 23115521 (ISSN) Mahmoodpour, S ; Singh, M ; Mahyapour, R ; Omrani, S ; Sass, I ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Highlights: 1. What are the main findings? CO2–N2 mixture dissolution in brine is examined by considering the cross-diffusion effect for CO2 sequestration in a deep storage reservoir. Heterogeneity lowers the average dissolved CO2 and impedes the onset of convection. 2. What is the implication of the main finding? Correlations are developed to predict the transition time between the dissolution regimes. The possibility of impure carbon dioxide (CO2) sequestration can reduce the cost of these projects and facilitate their widespread adoption. Despite this, there are a limited number of studies that address impure CO2 sequestration aspects. In this study, we examine the convection–diffusion...

    Abstract
The present paper deals with different effects of homogenization time and cooling environment on Ni-42.5wt%Ti-7.5wt%Cu alloy. The alloy was prepared by vacuum arc melting. Afterwards, three homogenization times (half, one and two hour) and three cooling environments (water, air and furnace) at 1373 K were selected. Optical and Scanning Electron Microscopic methods, EDX, DSC and hardness tests have been used to evaluate the microstructure, transformation temperatures and hardness. Results indicate that specimens that were cooled in air are super-saturated. Also, the microstructure from furnace cooling has many disparities with the other cooling environments' microstructure and two types of...

    Abstract
Inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathies are a group of peripheral nerve system disorders in which immune reactions are dysregulated. Cytokines have noticeable roles in the regulation of these responses. We compared transcript levels of nine cytokine coding genes namely IL-1B, IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-8, IL-17A, IFN-G, TGF-B and TNF-A in the peripheral blood of patients with acute and chronic kinds of this condition (AIDP and CIDP) and healthy persons. Expression of IL-17A was significantly lower in female AIDP cases compared with female controls (Expression Ratio = 0.02, P value = 0.02). Expression of this cytokine was higher in female CIDP cases compared with female AIDP cases...

    Abstract
The NF-κB family includes some transcription factors which have important functions in the regulation of immune responses, therefore participating in the pathophysiology of inflammatory conditions such as peripheral neuropathies. We have quantified expression of a number of NF-κB-related transcripts in patients with Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) or chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) versus healthy subjects. These transcripts have been previously shown to be functionally related with this family of transcription factors. Expressions of ATG5, DICER-AS1, PACER, DILC, NKILA and ADINR have been increased in both CIDP and GBS patients compared with controls. However,...

A misbehavior‐tolerant multipath routing protocol for wireless Ad hoc networks [electronic resource]

, Article International Journal of Research in Wireless Systems (IJRWS) ; Vol. 2, Issue 9, pp. , Sep. 2013 Sedghi, H. (Haniyeh) ; Pakravan, Mohammad Reza ; Aref, Mohammad Reza ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Secure routing is a major key to service maintenance in ad hoc networks. Ad hoc nature exposes the network to several types of node misbehavior or attacks. As a result of the resource limitations in such networks nodes may have a tendency to behave selfishly. Selfish behavior can have drastic impacts on network performance. We have proposed a Misbehavior-Tolerant Multipath Routing protocol (MTMR) which detects and punishes all types of misbehavior such as selfish behavior, wormhole, sinkhole and grey-hole attacks. The protocol utilizes a proactive approach to enforce cooperation. In addition, it uses a novel data redirection method to mitigate the impact of node misbehavior on network...

Analysis and data-based reconstruction of complex nonlinear dynamical systems : using the methods of stochastic processes

, Book Rahimi Tabar, M. Reza
    Springer International Publishing  2019
    Abstract
This book focuses on a central question in the field of complex systems: Given a fluctuating (in time or space), uni- or multi-variant sequentially measured set of experimental data (even noisy data), how should one analyse non-parametrically the data, assess underlying trends, uncover characteristics of the fluctuations (including diffusion and jump contributions), and construct a stochastic evolution equation?
Here, the term "non-parametrically" exemplifies that all the functions and parameters of the constructed stochastic evolution equation can be determined directly from the measured data.
The book provides an overview of methods that have been developed for the analysis of...

    Abstract
Growth arrest-specific gene 6 (GAS6) is a growth factor-like cytokine whose function is related with vitamin K. This protein interacts with receptor tyrosine kinase proteins such as Tyro3, Axl, and TAM Receptor family, therefore affecting the tumorigenic processes via different mechanisms. GAS6-antisense 1 (GAS6-AS1) is a long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) that is transcribed from a genomic regions nearby GAS6. This lncRNA is also implicated in the pathobiology of cancer. We intended to judge the role of GAS6 and GAS6-AS1 in the pathogenesis of breast cancer through appraisal of their expression levels in breast cancer tissues and their paired neighboring non-cancerous samples. Expression of...

Fabrication and Study of Mechanical Behavior of in Situ Microfibrillar- Reinforced Composites of Polypropylene/Recycled Poly (Ethylene Terephthalate)Toughened with Rubber Particles

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Motahari, Tayebeh (Author) ; Bagheri, Reza (Supervisor) ; Alizadeh, Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The use of polymers is increasing day by day due to low density, reasonable price and ability to produce different products. On the other hand, the accumulation of polymer wastes in nature is one of the environmental concerns in today's world, which is mainly due to the widespread use of polymers in the packaging industry and disposable applications. In order to solve this problem, recycling is recommended as the most appropriate and economical solution. Because in addition to consuming polymer waste, it also saves energy and reduces carbon footprint.Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is one of the polymeric materials which; It has a special place in the packaging industry and is widely used...

Characterization of Mechanical Properties of Polymer Nanocomposites with Spherical Inhomogeneities

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Goudarzi, Taha (Author) ; Naghdabadi, Reza (Supervisor) ; Bagheri, Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The improved properties of nanocomposites are not achievable with conventional composites. Scale effect is one the most important parameters in the physical and mechanical properties of polymeric nanocomposites. One of the physical phenomena, which can be related to the scale effect, is the very large interface between the nanoparticles and the polymeric matrices. Motional behavior and conformation of polymeric chains change near the nanoparticles surfaces. Due to high interface of the nanoparticles with the polymeric matrices the amount of these types of changes in the polymeric chains are so large that can change the physical and mechanical properties of polymeric nanocomposites. In this...

On small uniquely vertex-colourable graphs and Xu's conjecture [electronic resource]

, Article Discrete Mathematics ; Volume 223, Issues 1–3, 28 August 2000, Pages 93–108 Daneshgar, A. (Amir) ; Naserasr, Reza ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Consider the parameter Λ(G) = |E(G)| - |V(G)|(k - 1) + (k2) for a k-chromatic graph G, on the set of vertices V(G) and with the set of edges E(G). It is known that Λ(G)≥0 for any k-chromatic uniquely vertex-colourable graph G (k-UCG), and, S.J. Xu has conjectured that for any k-UCG, G, Λ(G) = 0 implies that cl(G) = k; in which cl(G) is the clique number of G. In this paper, first, we introduce the concept of the core of a k-UCG as an induced subgraph without any colour-class of size one, and without any vertex of degree k - 1. Considering (k, n)-cores as k-UCGs on n vertices, we show that edge-minimal (k, 2k)-cores do not exist when k ≥ 3, which shows that for any edge-minimal k-UCG on 2k...

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Mahnama, Maryam (Author) ; Naghdabadi, Reza (Supervisor) ; Movahhedy, Mohammad Reza (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
In the field of high-pressure material science, diverse carbon systems under pressure have been intensively studied with interest in synthesizing new phases. A variety of these synthetic phases which have met various applications in today technology are called the amorphous diamond. The pressure-induced structural transition of carbonaceous material to amorphous diamond is realized by shock compression and rapid quenching. The shock compression and rapid quenching generate the high pressure (several GPa) and the temperature (several hundred K) in a fraction of a microsecond.Since the mechanical and electrical properties of the synthetic diamond are severely sensitive to the atomic structure,...

An Experimental Study of the Effects of Sweep Wing on the Boundary Layer of 2D Wing

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Tabrizian, Arshia (Author) ; Soltani, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor) ; Davari, Ali Reza (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
The behavior of boundary layer under the effect of the sweep angle is considered. The measurements were performed by a pitot tube rake. Three models with various sweep angels at angles of attack -2, 0 and 2 degree were tested. Both tip and root of all wings were closed by flat plates in order to prevent the flow to roll-up. However the flow field on the wing was still three-dimensional because of the sweep angle. The velocity on the wing has two components; longitudinal and lateral. The cross flow emerges due to the non-equilibrium of pressure and centrifugal forces. The velocity profiles showed that the magnitude of cross flow was stronger near the leading edge of the wing. The cross flow...
