    Abstract
    This paper presents the results of a thorough power quality analysis in order to determine the cause of failure in a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) distribution transformer. The paper presents the field data and determines power quality indices of such loads based on IEEE/IEC standards. It provides steady state time-series parameters as well as transient waveforms. Different signatures of the voltage and current signals are extracted, and consequences of the distortions are described. The analysis is clarified by presenting both time domain captured waveforms and statistical power quality indices. Optimum solution for improving power quality and prevent component failure is also proposed. ©...

    Background: One of the negative effects of cardiac sympathetic hyperactivity is pathologic hypertrophy. Recent studies have indicated that large tumor suppressor (LATS) is one of the molecules which play a critical role in cardiomyocyte apoptosis.     Mine tailings are the most common materials that are used in construction of tailings dams. Due to high level of environmental hazard and serious consequences that are associated with tailings dam failure, proper design of tailings dams is an important factor in mining industry.     Effect of using Al 2O 3-water nanofluids with different volume fractions and particle diameters on generated entropy, hydrodynamic performance and heat transfer characteristics of a tangential micro-heat sink (TMHS) was numerically investigated in this research. Results indicated that considerable heat transfer enhancement is possible when using Al 2O 3-water nanofluids as coolant and clearly the enhancement improves with increasing particles concentration and decreasing particles size.     Body weight is influenced by both food intake and energy expenditure. Acylated ghrelin enhances appetite, and its circulating level is suppressed by Growth Hormone. Data on the acylated ghrelin responses to exercise of different intensities in obese individuals are currently not available. This study examined the effects of an intermittent exercise protocol on acylated ghrelin levels and hunger ratings in obese people.     In this research, the problems of adiabatic film-cooling the flat, convex, and concave surfaces are investigated numerically. Two different radii of curvature and one row of vertical injection holes are considered. The Navier-Stokes equations are solved using a fine nonuniform multiblock staggered curvilinear grid and the SIMPLE-based finite volume method. The blowing rates are 0.5 and 1.0 and the mainstream Reynolds number is 10,000. The obtained results indicated that at a low blowing ratio, the cooling effectiveness enhances over the convex surface and reduces over the concave surface compared to the flat surface case.     Seismic isolators are used to decrease the energy and forces of earthquakes. The weight of conventional steel-reinforced elastomeric isolators (SREIs) is high, mostly due to the use of multiple steel shim plates. On the contrary, the damping ratio of SREIs is relatively low. This novel model combines modified couple stresses and non-Fourier heat conduction to capture size effects in the microscale.     Single-crystal hydroxyapatite (HAp) nanorods and nanogranules have been synthesized successfully by a mechanochemical process using two distinct experimental procedures. The experimental outcomes are characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques. In this work, the feasibility of using polymeric milling media to prepare hydroxyapatite nanoparticles is described. The resulting hydroxyapatite powder exhibits an average size of about 20 to 23 nm.     Abstract
    This paper presents a dry mechanochemical process to produce hydroxyapatite (HAp) nanoparticles. Two distinct chemical reactions are introduced to prepare HAp powders using milling process. Structural and morphological properties of the obtained materials are studied by X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. The results reveal that the single crystal HAp nanoparticles have been successfully produced in metallic and polymeric vials through two different experimental procedures. Tempered chrome steel and polyamide-6 materials are adopted as the metallic and polymeric vials respectively.     In this paper, the ball valve performance is numerically simulated using an unstructured CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) code based on the finite volume method. Navier-Stokes equations in addition to a transport equation for the vapor volume fraction were coupled in the RANS solver. Separation is modeled very well with a modification of turbulent viscosity. The results of CFD calculations of flow through a ball valve, based on the concept of experimental data, are described and analyzed.
