    Abstract
Side weirs are hydraulic control structures widely used in irrigation and drainage systems as well as wastewater treatment plants. These structures also serve as adjusting/diverting flow structures with a minimum head loss. In the present study, by applying experimental data of more than 400 laboratory tests and using the multivariable nonlinear partial least-squares (PLS) method, three nonlinear equations are proposed for discharge coefficient, CM, of triangular and asymmetric labyrinth side weirs. These equations relate the discharge coefficient to the relevant geometrical and hydraulic dimensionless characteristics of flow. Results indicate that the new proposed equations are more...

    Abstract
Shear wall panels, including cold-formed steel frames and its attached sheathing, are common lateral load resisting systems of cold-formed steel structures. In this paper, the finite element method is used to study the lateral performance of shear wall panels. The finite element model is validated against experimental results of other researchers. Using the validated model, a parametric study is described to determine strength, drift and seismic behavior of the shear wall panels. Based on the results, it is concluded that the initial stiffness and ultimate lateral strength are dramatically affected by the thickness of the frame members, type of sheathing material, edge screw spacing, height...

    Abstract
Purpose: This paper aims to study the lateral behavior of cold-formed steel walls with K-shaped bracing by finite element modeling. Design/methodology/approach: The braces which have the same section as those for studs and tracks are connected to the frame by screw connections. By pushover analysis, lateral performance of two frame categories, with different dimensions and bracing arrangements, is examined, and the force-displacement diagram and the ultimate strength of walls are extracted. Probable failure modes during lateral loading including distortional buckling of studs, buckling in braces and failure of connections are simulated in the numerical model, and some strengthening...

    Abstract
Side weirs are widely used for level control and flow regulation in hydraulic engineering applications such as irrigation, land drainage, and sewer systems. These hydraulic structures allow a part of the flow to spill laterally when the surface of the flow in the main channel rises above the weir crest. The supercritical flow over a side-weir is a typical case of spatially varied flow with decreasing discharge. This study is aimed at investigating the variations of specific energy along the side-weir using experimental results. Some diagrams have been presented in terms of dimensionless ratio of diverted discharge to total discharge. These diagrams which can be used in the design of side...

Improving Efficiency of Labyrinth Side Weirs Using Asymmetric Geometry

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Parvaneh, Ali (Author) ; Borghei, Mahmood (Supervisor)
    Abstract
One of the most important methods of controlling discharge in water industry which is widely used in irrigation, water distribution, waste-water engineering, drainage, flood control and other water related projects, is side weir. The hydraulic behavior of flow over side weir is spatially varied flow with decreasing discharge. Various investigators have related the weir discharge coefficient as a function of main channel upstream Froude number and the fraction of weir height to upstream depth . Performance of sharp crested side weirs with extended length (as labyrinth side weir with asymmetric geometry) has been studied in this thesis. The variables for this study are height of weir ,...

    Abstract
In this paper, the dynamic modeling of powder compaction processes is presented based on a simple contact algorithm to evaluate the distribution of final density in dynamic powder die-pressing. The large deformation frictional contact is employed by imposing the contact constraints via the contact node-to-surface formulation and modifying the contact properties of frictional slip. The Coulomb friction law is used to simulate the friction between the rigid punch and the work-piece. The nonlinear contact friction algorithm is employed together with a double-surface cap plasticity model within the framework of large FE deformation in order to predict the non-uniform relative density...

And the test indicated how creative each individual is.There were three different ways the sample group was divided. The criteria for dividing the...

A Comparison Between Path-based Traffic Assignment Algorithms

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Parvaneh, Zahra (Author) ; Zokaie Aashtiani, Hedayat (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In the transportation litreture, many different algorithms have been proposed for solving traffic assignment problem based on the user-equilibrium principal. These algorithms are devided into two main groups: Path-based algorithms and arc-based algorithms. In the past, arc-based algorithms has attracted quite attention, but recent scientific progress in the computer science changed this viewpoint to the state of path-based algorithms. Much of the attention has been focused on three particular algorithms: the complementarity (C) algorithm, the gradient projection (GP) algorithm and the disaggregate simplicial decomposition (DSD) algorithm. In this thesis, these three algorithms have been...

    Synonym and Antonym Extraction

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rafiee, Amir Reza (Author) ; Khosravizadeh, Parvaneh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
One of the ways for semantic modelling of natural languages is to use the distributed representations of words. Formerly in order to produce the distributed representations of words several methods like LSA, LDA and other techniques taken from information retrieval were applied. The main idea presented by these methods is that the whole document consists of one central topic that has become hidden by the words it is made of. These models assign one general meaning to the whole document and do not regard words as semantically independent. However, each of the words of a document have specific senses that these models are not able to reflect. On the other hand efforts done in the field of...

Frictional Contact Modeling Using a Node-to-Surface Procedure in Dynamic Problems

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Parvaneh, Milad (Author) ; Khoei, Amir Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Contact happens when two bodies collide. Depending on our assumption, it can be considered as a frictional or frictionless contact. Here we have assumed that friction accompanies the contact phenomenon, hence it is called a frictional contact. For modeling contact problems, different procedures can be used such as node-to-node or node-to-surface patterns. Here we want to use the node-to-surface procedure to model the contact problem. The node-to-surface pattern has the capability to model interface behavior between different materials. By using the finite element method through numerical computations and also by applying constraint conditions which are related to contact conditions, we can...

    Abstract
In this paper, the three-dimensional large frictional contact deformation of powder forming process is modeled using a node-to-surface contact algorithm based on the penalty and augmented-Lagrange approaches. The technique is applied by imposing the normal and tangential contact constraints and modifying the contact properties of frictional slip. The Coulomb friction law is employed to simulate the friction between the rigid punch and the work piece. It is shown that the augmented-Lagrange technique significantly improves imposing of the constraints on contact surfaces. In order to predict the non-uniform relative density and stress distributions during the large deformation of powder...

Semantic Role Labeling Using Dependency Trees of Persian Sentences

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rezaei Sharifabadi, Morteza (Author) ; Khosravizadeh, Parvaneh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
A semantic role labeler is a software that takes sentences as inputs and identifies the words or groups which have semantic roles such as Agent, Theme, Source, Instrument etc. The correct identification of semantic rols using computers can improve the quality of many natural language processing tasks such as information extraction, question and answering, text summarization and machine translation. Therefore a considerable amount of research has been carried out on this topic. Semantic role labelers normally use features extracted from the syntactic structure of the input sentences. That is why the syntactic representation used has a prominent role in the system's outcome. The research...

Designing and Implementation of a Morphological Analyzer for Central Kurdish Language

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Naserzadeh, Morteza (Author) ; Khosravizadeh, Parvaneh (Supervisor) ; Veisi, Hadi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Morphological analysis of words plays a fundamental role in natural language processing applications such as spell checker, POS-tagging and machine translation. Among different dialects belonging to Kurdish, Northern Kurdish (Kurmanji), Central Kurdish (Sorani) and Southern Kurdish are the closest ones to each other. The central dialect of Kurdish is the second official language in Iraq and a large volume of text content is producing daily in this dialect. In this research, designing and implementation of a two-level morphological analyzer for the central Kurdish dialect is introduced. This analyzer is designed using an open source toolkit named HFST, which is a finite state transducer...

    Abstract
Low and high valence were induced in 20 male volunteers using two groups of pictures stimuli. Heart response was compared between two groups from RR series extracted from recorded ECG measurements. Mean heart rate and heart rate variability measures including time, frequency and Poincare domain were extracted. The results revealed that HRV triangular index, SDNN and SD2 were the only statistically significant parameters between groups (p<0.05). Mean heart rate and power in LF and HF bands were also different between low and high valence groups however level of significance was not reached. © 2015 CCAL
