    Metal-based bracken-like single-sided dye-sensitized solar cells with horizontal separation

    , Article Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics ; Volume 18, Issue 7 , 2016 , Pages 5244-5252 ; 14639076 (ISSN) Behrouznejad, F ; Taghavinia, N ; Pazoki, M ; Tajabadi, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    Royal Society of Chemistry  2016
    Abstract
One of the drawbacks of typical dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs) is their high cost and the high electrical resistance of the transparent conducting substrate. In conventional sandwich-type DSCs, only one of the FTO substrates can be replaced by a metal substrate. We investigated an all-metal-electrode single-sided DSC in which interpenetrated bracken-like Cr electrodes were created using photolithography; mesoporous TiO2 and Pt films were deposited on the laterally separated electrodes. Thermal Pt deposition and electrodeposition methods were investigated and it was found that a cyclic electrodeposition method resulted in selective Pt deposition at room temperature with a higher device...

    , Article Journal of the Electrochemical Society ; Volume 158, Issue 12 , 2011 , Pages K213-K216 ; 00134651 (ISSN) Karamitaheri, H ; Pourfath, M ; Pazoki, M ; Faez, R ; Kosina, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
The low temperature thermoelectric properties of hydrogen-passivated graphene-based antidot lattices are theoretically investigated. Calculations are performed using density functional theory in conjunction with the Landauer formula to obtain the ballistic transport coefficients. Antidot lattices with hexagonal, triangular and rectangular antidot shapes are studied. Methods to reduce the thermal conductance and to increase the thermoelectric power factor of such structures are studied. Our results indicate that triangular antidot lattices have the smallest thermal conductance due to longer boundaries, the smallest distance between the neighboring antidots, and the armchair edges. This...

    Abstract
This study examined Iranian EFL learners’ preferences regarding oral Corrective Feedback (CF) in a TOEFL speaking course. A 30-item questionnaire was administered to 32 participants in a TOEFL preparation course to elicit EFL learners’ views concerning their CF expectations. The results showed that based on the nature and objective of the course, students cared about their accuracy while fluency for these students was of secondary importance. Therefore, CF was regarded as crucial and necessary by the participants and they considered their grammatical errors as the most important one to be corrected followed by vocabulary and pronunciation errors. In terms of CF type, explicit and delayed...

Investigation of quantum conductance in semiconductor single-wall carbon nanotubes: Effect of strain and impurity

    , Article Journal of Applied Physics ; Volume 110, Issue 6 , 2011 ; 00218979 (ISSN) Rabiee Golgir, H ; Faez, R ; Pazoki, M ; Karamitaheri, H ; Sarvari, R ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
In this paper the effect of strain and impurity on the quantum conductance of semiconducting carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been studied by ab-initio calculations. The effect of strain and impurity on the CNT conducting behavior and physical characteristics, like density of states (DOS), band structure, and atomic local density of state (LDOS), is considered and discussed separately and simultaneously. Our results show that the quantum conductance of semiconductor CNTs is increased by compression strain, elongation strain, and replacing nitrogen and boron doping in its structure. The amount of increasing in the conductance depends on the type of strain and impurity. Conductance of CNT can be...

Ab initio study of electronic effects in the ZnO/TiO2 core/shell interface: Application in dye sensitized solar cells

    , Article RSC Advances ; Vol. 4, issue. 1 , April , 2014 , p. 301-307 Pazoki, M ; Nafari, N ; Taghavinia, N ; Sharif University of Technology
    2014
    Abstract
Core/shell structure of ZnO nanowires coated with a monolayer of TiO 2 is investigated using Density Functional Theory (DFT). The electronic states of the semiconductor is calculated and compared before and after coating of the TiO2 monolayer on a ZnO [101 0] surface. The effect of TiO2 coating induce surface states changes and shifts the conduction and valence band edges to higher energies. Our results, in qualitative agreement with the experimental work of Matt Law et al. (J. Phys. Chem. B, 110, 22652), show an increase in open circuit voltage and a decrease in short circuit current in ZnO/TiO2 core shell dye sensitized solar cells. Regarding the semiconductor density of states (DOS), TiO2...

    Abstract
Light scattering, porosity, surface area, and morphology of TiO2 working electrode can affect the power conversion efficiency of dye -sensitized solar cells dramatically. Here mesoporous TiO2 microbeads were tested as working electrode in dye-sensitized solar cells based on cobalt tris-bipyridine electrolyte. Power conversion efficiencies up to 6.4% were obtained with D35 dye adsorbed onto the light-scattering microbeads. Electron transport, studied using small light perturbation methods, was found to be significantly faster in the microbead films than in standard mesoporous TiO 2 films. This was attributed to the favorable assembly of nanocrystals in the microbeads, which can increase the...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Yaghoubnejad Pazoki, Parisa (Author) ; Matloubi Moghaddam, Firouz (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In recent years, bimetallic metal-organic frameworks have attracted the great attention of researchers due to their dual properties and synergistic effects. In this research and inspired by green chemistry, the synthesis of a magnetic nanocomposite of the defective green metal-organic framework was implemented, which carries metallic silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs@Cu-MOF). Then, the sulfonated compounds were synthesized with the prepared nanocomposite because of the importance and widespread medicinal use of sulfur-containing compounds especially sulfonated compounds, and the difficulty of their preparation methods. It is noteworthy to mention that the sulfonation reaction was done by...

The effect of dye coverage on the performance of dye-sensitized solar cells with a cobalt-based electrolyte

    , Article Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics ; Vol. 16, issue. 18 , Mar , 2014 , pp. 8503-8508 Pazoki, M ; Lohse, P. W ; Taghavinia, N ; Hagfeldt, A ; Boschloo, G ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The effect of dye coverage of the mesoporous TiO2 electrode on the performance of dye-sensitized solar cells based on the cobalt tris(bipyridine) electrolyte and the D35 dye was studied in detail. The dye coverage was controlled by using a dye bath with different dye concentrations and containing an inert salt, LiClO4, which was found to promote equilibrium conditions in the dye adsorption process. The amount of adsorbed D35 dye on mesoporous TiO2 was reasonably fit using the Langmuir adsorption isotherm, with a binding constant of 55 000 M-1. Upon increasing the dye coverage on the TiO2 electrode, the electron lifetime in the dye-sensitized solar cell increased remarkably, demonstrating the...

    Abstract
Chemical vapour deposition (CVD) at atmospheric pressure, using TiCl 4 as a precursor, was used to grow nanostructured TiO2 films on glass substrates. At relatively low temperatures (∼245 °C) and using relatively high reactant concentrations, different nano-morphologies of TiO2 were formed simultaneously, such as spheres, nanowires and mesoporous structures. The TiO2 spheres were successfully applied as light-scattering particles in dye-sensitized solar cells, either by direct deposition onto electrodes in the reactor, or by preparation of a printing paste from the deposited particles. For dye-sensitized solar cells using the organic dye D35 as sensitizer and a cobalt-complex based redox...

    Abstract
Optical tweezers are proven indispensable single-cell micro-manipulation and mechanical phenotyping tools. In this study, we have used optical tweezers for measuring the viscoelastic properties of human red blood cells (RBCs). Comparison of the viscoelastic features of the healthy fresh and atorvastatin treated cells revealed that the drug softens the cells. Using a simple modeling approach, we proposed a molecular model that explains the drug-induced softening of the RBC membrane. Our results suggest that direct interactions between the drug and cytoskeletal components underlie the drug-induced softening of the cells. © 2018 Optical Society of America

    Abstract
Organ ischemia with inadequate oxygen supply followed by reperfusion (which initiates a complex of inflammatory responses and oxidative stress) occurs in different clinical conditions and surgical procedures including stroke, myocardial infarction, limb ischemia, renal failure, organ transplantation, free-tissue-transfer, cardiopulmonary bypass, and vascular surgery. Even though pharmacological treatments protect against experimental ischemia reperfusion (I/R) injury, there has not been enough success in their application for patient benefits. The main hurdles in the treatment of I/R injury are the lack of diagnosis tools for understanding the complicated chains of I/R-induced signaling...

    Abstract
Ischemic cerebral stroke is a major cause of death and morbidity. Currently, no neuroprotective agents have been shown to impact the clinical outcomes in cerebral stroke cases. Here, we report therapeutic effects of Se nanoparticles on ischemic stroke in a murine model. Anti-transferrin receptor monoclonal antibody (OX26)-PEGylated Se nanoparticles (OX26-PEG-Se NPs) were designed and synthesized and their neuroprotective effects were measured using in vitro and in vivo approaches. We demonstrate that administration of the biodegradable nanoparticles leads to resolution of brain edema, protection of axons in hippocampus region, and myelination of hippocampal area after cerebral ischemic...

    Abstract
Using multiple antennas at the transmit and receive sides of a passive radar brings both the benefits of MIMO radar and passive radar. However one of the obstacles arisen in such configuration is the receive antennas placement in proper positions so that the radar performance is improved. Here we just consider the case of positioning one receiver among multiple illuminators of opportunity. Indeed it is a start for the solution of optimizing the geometry of the multiple receivers in a passive radar
