    Effects of ion-exchange and hydrolysis mechanisms on lead silicate glass corrosion

    Abstract
    Corrosion of lead silicate glass (LSG) contacting 0.5 M aqueous nitric acid (HNO 3) was investigated via scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive spectroscopy, inductively coupled plasma analysis, and weight-loss measurement to determine the respective contributions of the ion-exchange vs. the hydrolysis reactions. The LSG having X M ≡ Pb+K+Na/Si mole ratios of less than 0.7 showed very little weight loss with no Si network deterioration. At X M > 0.7, the mechanism changed into the hydrolysis, which caused the formation of a networkless gel layer resting at the solid/liquid interface.     Abstract
    The adverse effect of graphene-titanium oxide composite films (containing sheet-like surface morphology) on Caenorhabditis elegans nematodes (as a model for minuscule animals) was investigated in a solar light-induced photocatalytic process. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy demonstrated photocatalytic reduction of the chemically exfoliated graphene oxide sheets included in the TiO 2 film. Furthermore, formation of TiC and Ti-O-C bonds in the composite film (obtained through annealing at 450 °C in air) resulted in a substantial delay in the recombination rate of the photoexcited electron-hole pairs and more efficient photocatalytic processes.     Abstract
    Presence of bubbles affects quality of the lead silicate glass (LSG) samples. This paper presents the most recent results obtained on formation and collapse of bubbles in LSG melts. Main sources of the bubbles are dissolved gases and redox reactions. A foamy layer full of bubbles rapidly forms at top of the molten phase. Effect of viscosity and density of the melt on content and ascension rate of the bubbles are investigated. Number and mean diameter of the bubbles and thickness of the top bubbly layer are calculated from gas volume measurements and image analysis via J software

    Abstract
    Lead silicate glasses (LSGs) have high gamma-ray attenuation but low chemical durability properties. In this work, LSGs with (55.5-68.5 wt%) PbO content containing ZrO2 and TiO2 additions were produced. The chemical corrosion of various produced LSGs in 0.5 N HNO3 aqueous solution and determination of their gamma-ray attenuation coefficients for 60Co and 137Cs sources were investigated.     High-temperature (1200-1350°C) corrosion of fused-cast ZrO2-Al2O3-SiO2 (ZAS) refractory contacting lead silicate glass melt (LSG) containing 68.5wt% PbO was investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), x-ray diffraction (XRD), thickness measurement and Archimedes density measurement.     Abstract
    We study phonon delocalization in disordered media in the presence of nonlinearity. By considering the Fermi-Pasta-Ulam β-model, we show that regardless of whether the initial state of the linear system is localized or not, the final state will be an extended mode after turning on the nonlinear term. We report on the results of an extensive dynamical simulation of a disordered nonlinear system, which show that, independent of the initial mode frequency, in the final state the energy spectrum is excited according to the Kolmogorov spectrum E(ω)∼ω-5/3. Finally, we show that disorder will not cause delocalization of intrinsic localized modes. © 2020 American Physical Society

    In this paper we introduce two methods for measuring irregularities in human heartbeat time series (HHTS). First we consider the multi-fractal structure of HHTS to distinguish healthy individuals and from those with congestive heart failure. In this way we modify the Extended Self-Similarity (ESS) method and apply it to HHTS. Our second approach is based on the recursive method, which we use to predict the duration of the next heartbeat by considering a few previous ones.     Here, a solution combustion method was employed to construct a photoanode based on bismuth vanadate (BV) composition. To curtail the fast charge recombination, phosphorus-doped g-C3N4 nanosheets (PCNS) in combination with BV are considered a potential approach. The prepared solution combustion facilitated the formation of a BiVO4-PCNS (BV-PCNS) hybrid photoanode with worm-like morphology with a simple setup.
