, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Kavand, Ali (Author) ; Haeri, Mohsen (Supervisor) ; Rahmani, Iraj (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
Liquefaction induced lateral spreading is defined as the lateral displacement of mildly sloping grounds or those ending in free faces as a result of liquefaction in subsurface soil layers. Damages imposed by lateral spreading on pile foundations supporting different types of structures such as ports, bridges and buildings are usually observed in large earthquakes. These potential damages are of high degree of importance in southern and northern coastal areas of Iran where several ports and critical facilities are located. River banks all over the country where bridge piers exist are also among the areas prone to potential damages. Evaluation of the effects of lateral spreading on existing...

Thermodynamic and Kinetic Study for Production of Micro and Nano Poly(Ethylene Terephthalate) Particles With Supercritical System

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Oghazian, Farhad (Author) ; Goodarznia, Iraj (Supervisor)
    Abstract
It is well known that poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) is a high melting compound which has exceptional value as a fiber and film-making material, and which currently dominates the whole field of linear polyester substances. However, the high viscosity and limited solubility in liquid solvents restrict its processing to powders and hence the range of applications of such a polymer. Traditionally, crushing, mechanical grinding, ball milling and precipitation from solution are methods for producing powders. The first three ones inevitably change the property of materials. The last one is carried out on the basis of the application of an anti-solvent to decrease the solubility of a...

Used Oil Recovery by Supercritical Solvent Extraction

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Saeeidi, Abdoreza (Author) ; Goodarznia, Iraj (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The supercritical carbon dioxide is applied in many separation processes as solvent. Due to this applicability of carbon dioxide, in this study, it is applied to oil refinery. In order to find the maximum efficiency, the experiment was conducted in the pressure range of 150-210 bar, and the temperature range 35-65 C of temperature. Based on this study, the changes in pressure show strong effect on the efficiency, and when it increases the efficiency increases, too. Despite of the pressure, when the temperature increases at a constant pressure, the density of supercritical carbon dioxide decreases. As a result, its solubility in decreases and the oil viscosity and mass transfer rate from oil...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Khalighi, Jafar (Author) ; Goodarznia, Iraj (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this study we investigated the stress effects on the fractured block in formation and its impact on flow through the matrix. At first the effect of various stresses on reduction of sample's pore volume and thereby reduction the permeability have been studied. The equations used to describe the elasticity relations in saturated matrix block is provided by Bayot theory. In this theory, the system of related equations to stress and strain changes have been developed in matrix. We have used finite element method in COMSOL software to solve the equation system created by elasticity relations in formation. After solving the equations, volume and volumetric strain changes which are caused by the...

    Abstract
One of challenging problems in the domain of web services is the web service composition (i.e the task of composing web services to create new services, capable of fulfilling a need that no single service can satisfy). In real application, there will be a lot of relevant web services for a simple goal, so the search space for such a problem is huge. In this research statement, we show how by extracting some prior knowledge and using simple heuristics, search space and search time can be reduced significantly

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Talaei Mosbat, Masoud (Author) ; Goodarznia, Iraj (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Nowadays, we know that many hydrocarbon reservoirs are fractured regarding this, the investigation of the properties of these reservoirs is necessary to predict the storage, production and the drilling methods. To identify fractured reservoirs, the fracture properties and their geometries under different conditions should be investigated. The Mechanical properties of the drilling bed like crack propagation, layer and mass rock is impactful in planning of drilling process and hydraulic fracturing operation. In this research, at first we introduce natural and induced fractures...

Experimental Performance Analysis of Different Drill-in Fluids in Order to Reduce Formation Damage in Reservoir Sections

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Masoomi Azandaryani, Milad (Author) ; Goodarznia, Iraj (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Formation damage is defined as any process that reduses the reservoir permeability relative to its normal state. Two major causes of this problem are filtrate and solid invasion into the pore spaces of reservoir rock. Therefore, the drilling fluid used for drilling the reservoir sections should prevent such a problem as much as possible. The goal of this study is to optimize the weighting additive particle size distribution to prevent permeability damage in one of the southern Iranian oil fields. By analizing the capillary pressure data of core samples, it seems that fracture presence in rock matrix leads to poor quality of mudcake, resulting peremabilty reduction in near wellbore region....

Also the influence of operatvie boundry conditions in our problem which are water temperature, air temperature and solar radiation was precisely taken into account. Moreover, nonlinear...

Economic Batch Quantity (EBQ) for a Single-Stage Production System with Rework and Scrapping

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rahmani, Vasim (Author) ; Haji, Rasoul (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The classical economic batch quantity (EBQ) model assumes that all produced items have a perfect quality. But in real-life production systems, generation of defective items is inevitable. A portion of these defective items is considered to be scrap , while the other is assumed to be reworkable and reworking them can reduce costs and increase productivity. In this thesis we have studied the economic batch quantity for a single stage production system with rework and scrapping . We want to satisfy the customer demand and minimize total costs of the system like set up costs , production costs , rework costs , holding costs , shortage costs and scrapping costs . In the first chapter of this...

Dynamic Analysis of Pile Foundations Embedded in Liquefiable Soils

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rahmani, Amin (Author) ; Pak, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The behavior of pile foundations under earthquake loading is an important issue that affects the performance of structures. Design procedures have been developed for evaluating pile behavior under earthquake loading; however, the application of these procedures to cases involving liquefiable ground is uncertain. The performance of piles in liquefied soil layers is much more complex than that of non-liquefying soil layers because not only the superstructure and the surrounding soil exert different dynamic loads on pile, but also the stiffness and shear strength of surrounding soil diminishes over time due to both non-linear behavior of soil and pore water pressure generation. In this...

To produce specimens, an investment casting method was used so that adequate amount of polycrystalline round bars could be obtained. The specimens were all homogenized and solution treated. After the inspection, some specimens were coated with pack cementation method in CODEP-B powder in H2 atmosphere. The coated and uncoated specimens all...
