    Abstract
    Downscaling trend in CMOS technology on the one hand and reducing supply voltage of the circuits on the other hand, make devices more susceptive to soft errors such as SEU. Latch circuits are prone to be affected by SEUs. In this article, we propose a new circuit design of latch using redundancy with the aim of immunity against SEUs. According to simulation results, our design not only guaranties full immunity, but also has the advantage of occupying less area and consuming much less power and performance penalty in comparison with other SEU immune latches.     Nitrogen compounds are becoming increasingly important in wastewater management, because of the many effects that nitrogenous material can have on the environment that need nitrogen removal. In this study, the performance of a submerged fixed bed reactor in nitrogen removal, constructed two anoxic and aerobic sections under Modified Ludzack-Ettinger process was investigated. Laboratory experiments were conducted at a constant COD concentration of 350 mg/lit, hydraulic retention times of 8, 12 and 18 hours and influent ammonia loading rate between 0.128 and 0.955 g NH3/m2.day.     We consider magnetic actuation and control of a spherical neutrally buoyant magnetic microrobot via magnetic coil setups and seek to design an optimal controller to reduce the required energy and coils’ currents. We showed that in currently employed setups, where the actuation frequency is few tens of Hertz, the nonlinear dynamics of the system can be well approximated by a set of linear constrained ones. The approximated model is obtained by consciously overlooking the rotational dynamics and the inertia terms in translational dynamics.     In this paper, two Low cost and Soft Error Hardened latches (referred to as LSEH1 and LSEH2) are proposed and evaluated. The proposed latches are fully SEU immune, i.e. they are capable of tolerating all particle strikes to any of their nodes. Moreover, they can mask Single Event Transients (SETs) occurring in combinational logics and reaching the input of the latches.     In this paper, we propose two novel soft error tolerant latch circuits namely HRPU and HRUT. The proposed latches are both capable of fully tolerating single event upsets (SEUs). Also, they have the ability of enduring single event multiple upsets (SEMUs).     In this paper, we introduce a notion of quantum discrepancy, a non-commutative version of combinatorial discrepancy which is defined for projection systems, i.e. finite sets of orthogonal projections, as non-commutative counterparts of set systems. We show that besides its natural algebraic formulation, quantum discrepancy, when restricted to set systems, has a probabilistic interpretation in terms of determinantal processes. Determinantal processes are a family of point processes with a rich algebraic structure. A common feature of this family is the local repulsive behavior of points.     In this paper, sliding-mode control (SMC) is applied to a z-source converter to control output dc voltage of impedance network. The converter is assumed working in continuous conduction mode (CCM). First a comprehensive review of the literature for z-source inverter (ZSI) and use of sliding mode control in switched converters are performed. The procedure of SMC design used in ZSI is presented. A linear map H:C(T)→C(S) is called separating if, for x,y∈C(T), xy≡0 implies HxHy≡0. Compared to experimental measurements, the numerical prediction for single phase flow of water is matched very well.     Abstract
    A number of HZSM-5 catalysts modified with 5 wt% Mg, Na, Zr, and Al as well as others modified with 5-60 wt% Zn prepared by wet impregnation. These materials were characterized by the NH3-TPD, XRF, and XRD analyses and tested in a slurry reactor to determine their activities in dehydration of methanol solution in kerosene. Reactions were carried out at 230°C and 19 bar for 4 h of residence time in the reactor. Results showed that in the first series, the catalyst modified with Zr and in the second series, the one modified with 10 wt% Zn led to the highest methanol conversion.     Abstract
    In this paper we analyses the energy consumption of well known family of asynchronous circuits and present a new methodology for energy estimation of these circuits at intermediate-level of abstraction. Energy estimation is performed by simulating the intermediate format of the design. The number of Read and Write accesses on the ports of the concurrent processes are counted by analyzing the conditional and computational portion during the simulation which is the base of our estimation methodology. Our proposed power estimation scheme is faster than usual post-synthesis power estimation by an order of 9, while the estimated power resides in a boundary of 11% total imprecision. © 2007 IEEE
