    Abstract
In order to study the effect of boron addition on the microstructure and tensile properties of titanium matrix composites, two Ti-6Al-4V/10. Vol% TiC ingots with and without boron were fabricated by VIM furnace and hot rolling. The microstructures of composites were examined using optical microscopy (OM). The X-ray diffraction (XRD) was used to identify the phases present in the composites. Addition of boron resulted in the formation of needle shaped TiB in the matrix that was followed by the refinement of grain size. Compared with Ti-6Al-4V/TiC composite, the composite containing boron content exhibited a significantly higher ductility and lower strength. It was caused by the effects of...

    Abstract
Information extraction and refinement systems rely on a set of extraction patterns in pattern based approaches in order to construct taxonomies and finding instances of concepts in a corpus. Pattern based methods have high precision and suffer from low recall. Pattern generalization and modeling techniques can increase matching power and decrease GAP between training and test data

Mechanism of Al-Si codeposition on In738LC through single-step diffusion process

    , Article International Journal of Surface Science and Engineering ; Volume 11, Issue 1 , 2017 , Pages 1-11 ; 1749785X (ISSN) Nikzad, S ; Abdi, M ; Rastegari, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    2017
    Abstract
The out-of-pack cementation method was applied to coat the Nickel-based super alloy IN738LC with Si-modified aluminide. Different mixtures of the pack containing pure Al, Si, alumina powders as an inert filler, and NH4Cl as a halide salt activator were used for co-deposition at 950 and 1,050°C. The results showed although the amount of subhalide vapour pressures of Al and Si were equal at 1,050°C, Al atoms diffused only after Si atoms had been deposited. Before heat treatment, the coating thickness formed by the pack containing 2.3 wt.% Al was 6 μm more than that containing 3.5 wt.% Al. After heat treatment, thickening coatings formed within the pack containing 2.3 wt.% Al was less than that...

    Abstract
By going to millimeter wave (mmWave) we can use large scale MIMO due to short mmWave wavelength to overcome path loss by using beamforming to focus power of signal to the receiver. System structure of mmWave band is different with conventional MIMO because of large scale MIMO which is leading to use many RF-chains. For this reason Hybrid structure have been proposed for large Scale MIMO. By going to Hybrid structure a new issue has been created with phase shifter constraint. In this paper we propose a novel solution to make a hybrid precoding and combing to reach high spectral efficiency. Our problem includes a maximizing Frobenius norm of multiplying five complex matrices. As constraints,...

    Abstract
Fetching Lexico-Syntactic patterns from text rely on pairs of words (positive instances) that represent the target relation, and finding their simultaneous occurrence in text corpus. Due to existence of WordNet thesaurus (which contains the semantic relationship between words), collecting positive instances is easy. In non-english languages, it's hard to collect large number of positive instances in various contexts. We investigated some new ideas for collecting them in Persian language and finally run the best one and collected approximately 6,000 positive instances

    Abstract
CMMI is a unified model for software and system engineering in organizations. The initial CMM has been designed for software development. According to its successes, different models were developed by different groups such as: SECM, SACMM, IPDCMM, and FAAICMM. CMM Integration was introduced due to some problems such as lack of uniformity, overlapping, and incompatibility of mentioned models. Current paper is a research on CMMI, especially on configuration management process. We believe that accepting all change requests lead to ad-hoc versions and rejecting them lead to customer dissatisfaction. Therefore a Change-Request buffer is needed in configuration management process based on CMMI...

Design and Manufacturing of Atmospheric Water Generation in Hot and Humid Area

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rastegari, Amin (Author) ; Sadr Hosseini, Hani (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This experimental study evaluates the implementation of atmospheric water generator (AWG) apparatus for rural households to supply the needed water. Humid (atmospheric) air is sucked into the condenser and passed through an air filter by a fan; since the temperature of the condenser is lower than the ambient air temperature (dew point temperature), the moist in the atmospheric air is condensed and freshwater is collected which is stored in a tank and after 7 stages of purification will be ready to drink.Data of this project is obtained from Kish Island’s weather station to find the average temperature and humidity. Kish Island is chosen for this project because of its high humidity and...

    Elliptic Problems in Nonsmooth Domains

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rastegari, Hossein (Author) ; Fotouhi Firouzabad, Morteza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The In this thesis, we focus are attention on elliptic boundry value problems in domain with nonsmooth boundaries and problems with mixed boundry conditions. Indeed most of the available mathematical theories about elliptic boundry value problems deal with domains with very smooth boundaries;few of them deal with mixed boundry conditions. However, the majority of the elliptic boundry value problems which arise in practice are naturally posed in domains whose geometry is simlpe but not smooth. These domains are very often three-dimensional polyhedra. For the purpose of solving them numerically these problems are usually reduced to two-dimensional domains. Thus the domains are plane polygons...

Multi-attribute queries: To merge or not to merge?

, Article Proceedings of the IEEE Computer Society Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition ; 2013 , Pages 3310-3317 ; 10636919 (ISSN) Rastegari, M ; Diba, A ; Parikh, D ; Farhadi, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Users often have very specific visual content in mind that they are searching for. The most natural way to communicate this content to an image search engine is to use key-words that specify various properties or attributes of the content. A naive way of dealing with such multi-attribute queries is the following: train a classifier for each attribute independently, and then combine their scores on images to judge their fit to the query. We argue that this may not be the most effective or efficient approach. Conjunctions of attribute often correspond to very characteristic appearances. It would thus be beneficial to train classifiers that detect these conjunctions as a whole. But not all...

Investigating Effect of Data Features on Robustness of Deep Neural Networks Against Adversarial Attacks

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rastegari Nejad, Mohammad Javad (Author) ; Jalili, Rasool (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The impressive performance of deep neural networks in various fields has led to the spread of this technology in various organizations and businesses. Training a neural network is a costly process due to the need of collecting relevant data and high computational cost; in this sense, a trained network is considered a valuable asset to any organization. One of the most important attacks against these networks is model extraction attacks. Model extraction attacks are implemented with the aim of training an surrogate model for the target learning model, and in addition to violating the intellectual property of the target model, they can be the basis of other attacks such as an adversarial...

    Abstract
Using multiple antennas at the transmit and receive sides of a passive radar brings both the benefits of MIMO radar and passive radar. However one of the obstacles arisen in such configuration is the receive antennas placement in proper positions so that the radar performance is improved. Here we just consider the case of positioning one receiver among multiple illuminators of opportunity. Indeed it is a start for the solution of optimizing the geometry of the multiple receivers in a passive radar

    Abstract
In this paper, we consider an integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) system with wireless power transfer (WPT) where an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-based radar serves a group of energy-limited communication users in addition to its sensing functionality. In this architecture, the radar senses the environment in phase 1 (namely sensing phase) and mean-while, the communications users (nodes) harvest and store the energy from the radar transmit signal. The stored energy is then used for information transmission from the nodes to UAV in phase 2, i.e., uplink phase. Performance of the radar system depends on the transmit signal as well as the receive filter; the energy of the transmit...

    Abstract
One of the important obstacles in MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) radars is the issue of designing proper transmit signals. Indeed, the capability of signal design is a significant advantage in MIMO radars, through which, the system can achieve much better performance. Many different aspects of this performance improvement have been considered yet, and the transmit signals have been designed to attain such goal, e.g., getting higher SNR or better detector's performance at the receiver. However, an important tool for evaluating the radar's performance is its ambiguity function. In this paper, we consider the problem of transmit signal design, in order to optimize the ambiguity function...

    Detection-localization tradeoff in MIMO radars

    Abstract
Two gains play key roles in recently developed MIMO wireless communication systems: "spatial diversity" gain and "spatial multiplexing" gain. The diversity gain refers to the capability to decrease the error rate of the MIMO channel, while the multiplexing gain implicitly refers to the amount of increase in the capacity of the MIMO channel. It has been shown that there is a fundamental tradeoff between these two types of gains, meaning interplay between increasing reliability (via an increase in the diversity gain) and increasing data rate (via an increase in the multiplexing gain). On the other hand, recently, MIMO radars have attracted much attention for their superior ability to enhance...

Antenna placement and power allocation optimization in MIMO detection

    Abstract
It is a well known fact that using multiple antennas at transmit and receive sides improves the detection performance. However, in such multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) configuration, proper positioning of transmitters and receivers is a big challenge that can have significant influence on the performance of the overall system. In addition, determining the power of each transmitter under a total power constraint is a problem that should be solved in order to enhance the performance and coverage of such a system. In this paper, we design the Neyman-Pearson detector under the Rayleigh scatter model and use it to introduce a criterion for the antenna placement at both transmit and receive...

Ambiguity function of MIMO radar with widely separated antennas

    Abstract
There has been much interest, recently, towards exploiting the Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) technique in radar. It is shown that using multiple antennas at transmit and receive sides can improve the performance of the system. However, in order to analyze the system's performance, its ambiguity function, i.e. the ambiguity function of a MIMO radar, is needed to be defined. In this paper, beginning from the information theoretic definitions, we derive such function, specifically for a MIMO radar with widely separated antennas
