, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Razavi Rohani, Roozbeh (Author) ; Soleymani Baghshahi, Mahdih (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Reinforcement learning is one of the most well-known learning paradigms in biological agents and one of the most used ones for solving plenty of problems. One of the reasons for this widespread use is the low demand for supervising signals. However, the sparsity of the reward signal causes increasing in sample complexity that needs for learning new tasks. This issue makes trouble in multi-task settings, specifically. One of the most promising approaches to learning new tasks by limited interaction with the environment is meta reinforcement learning. An approach in which fast adaption becomes possible by limiting hypothesis space and creating inductive biases by learning meta parameters....

Managed-pressure drilling: Techniques and options for improving operational safety and efficiency

    , Article Petroleum and Coal ; Volume 54, Issue 1 , May , 2012 , Pages 24-33 ; 13377027 (ISSN) Rohani, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
In the most of the drilling operations a considerable amount of money is spent for drilling related problems; including stuck pipe, lost circulation, and excessive mud cost. In order to decrease the percentage of non-productive time (NPT) caused by these kind of problems, the aim is to control annular frictional pressure losses especially in the fields where pore pressure and fracture pressure gradient is too close which is called narrow drilling window. By solving these problems, drilling cost will fall, therefore enabling the industry to be able to drill wells that were previously uneconomical. Managed pressure drilling (MPD) is a new technology that enables a driller to more precisely...

By using these destructive networks, recognition of the main server becomes more complicated. Therefore, the server obtains more accessibility in comparison to the past situation and the life time becomes longer. In this thesis, by collecting data of Sharif server and...

A fuzzy vendor managed inventory of multi-item economic order quantity model under shortage: An ant colony optimization algorithm

    , Article International Journal of Production Economics ; Vol. 155 , September , 2014 , pp. 259-271 Roozbeh Nia, A ; Hemmati Far, M ; Akhavan Niaki, S. T ; Sharif University of Technology
    2014
    Abstract
In this study, a multi-item economic order quantity model with shortage under vendor managed inventory policy in a single vendor single buyer supply chain is developed. This model explicitly includes warehouse capacity and delivery constraints, bounds order quantity, and limits the number of pallets. Not only the demands are considered imprecise, but also resources such as available storage and total order quantity of all items can be vaguely defined in different ways. An ant colony optimization is employed to find a near-optimum solution of the fuzzy nonlinear integer-programming problem with the objective of minimizing the total cost of the supply chain. Since no benchmark is available in...

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Rohani Bastami, Abbas (Author) ; Behzad, Mehdi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Diagnostic and prognostic of spall defect in the rolling element bearings is investigated in this thesis. A new numerical model is proposed which considers defect size, defect clearance and defect roughness. The results of this model based on surface roughness show superior similarity to experimental data than classic model. To improve diagnostic ability in the rolling element bearings, four new methods are proposed in this thesis. These methods are short-time statistical features, local curve roughness, level crossing and wavelet packet decomposition. These methods are applied in outer ring, inner ring and ball defects and it is showed that these methods have better detection ability...

    Abstract
Recent researches have shown the importance of improving the supply chain competitiveness by means of strategic alliances. This study considers the retailer-supplier partnership through a vendor-managed inventory (VMI) system and develops an analytical model to explore the effect of important supply chain parameters on the cost savings realized from collaborative initiatives. This model is developed for a two-level supply chain consisting of a single supplier and a single retailer and examines the inventory management practices before and after implementation of VMI. The results of analytical examination show that VMI implementation in economic order quantity model when shortage is...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mohammad Ali Tajrishi, Mahshid (Author) ; Mahmoodian, Ebadollah (Supervisor) ; Tusserkani, Roozbeh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, we discuss some basic concepts of graph theory and introduce some well-known graphs with a glimpse at the optimization concepts. We also have discussed the proof of theorems related with the domination sets and total domination sets. Indeed, let G = (V;E) be a graph with no isolated vertex. A subset of V , S is a domination set if every vertex in V n S is adjacent to at least one vertex in S. Also, a subset of V , S is a total domination set if every vertex in V is adjacent to at least one vertex in S. Generation and propagation codes that is introduced by R.Touserkani is one of the objects in this thesis, that we study and discuss. Also, for some classes of graphs, we...

    Foam stability and foam-oil interactions

    , Article Petroleum Science and Technology ; Vol. 32, issue. 15 , May , 2014 , p. 1843-1850 ; ISSN: 10916466 Rashed Rohani, M ; Ghotbi, C ; Badakhshan, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Gas injection into reservoirs can be used to increase oil recovery. However, reservoir heterogeneity and high gas mobility reduce sweep efficiency and decrease recovery. Using foam can reduce gas mobility and therefore increase sweep efficiency. Foam is thermodynamically unstable, so it is important to predict the foam stability. In order to understand the influence of oil presence on foam stability, static experiments performed on foam by varying the type and amount of added oil and molecular weight of added alkane. Also static foam properties have been investigated by varying the surfactant concentration, ionic strength, composition of different salts in the sample, and addition of polymer...

    Abstract
Fischer-Tropsch synthesis is performed in slurry reactors and it is essential to employ a continuous separation method to separate the catalyst particles suspended in the product wax. A study was conducted to where the separation process was carried out by internal filtration method using a sintered metal filter. The filtrate flow rate increased by increasing the temperature. Increasing the pressure difference had positive effects on the filtrate flow rate at the beginning of the process. Backwashing by both liquid and gas was more effective than by performing the backwashing operation only by gas. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the 7th European Congress of Chemical...

    Abstract
The normalization theory in relational database design is a classical subject investigated in different papers. The results of these research works are the stronger normal forms such as 5NF, DKNF and 6NF. In these normal forms, there are less anomalies and redundancies, but it does not mean that these stronger normal forms are free of anomalies and redundancies. Each normal form discussion is based on a particular constraint. In this paper, we introduce relations which contain a new kind of constraint called "combinational constraint". We. distinguish two important kinds of this constraints, namely Strong and Weak. Also we classify the. Combinationally Constrained Relations as Single and...

    Abstract
Wireless body area networks (WBANs) are characterized by short-range wireless communication between inherently resource-limited sensors that operate in the vicinity of the human body for recording certain physiological signals. One of the main limitations of WBANs is in terms of their available power. Since the nodes are typically battery-driven, an efficient power transmission is essential to guarantee long-lasting communications among nodes without the need for frequent battery replacement or charging. In this study, aiming to improve the WBAN performance, we first investigate the power allocation problem by choosing the ergodic capacity and the outage probability as the desired metrics....

    Abstract
Wireless body area network (WBAN) is composed of miniaturised sensors that operate in the vicinity of the human body for recording the vital physiological signals and wirelessly transmitting them to a central hub for further processing. In this study, a statistical approach is applied to an experimental channel data set to extract the models for the squared channel gain that best describe the characteristics of the transmission medium between the sensors and the central hub. The derived models are then utilised to investigate the error rate performance of WBAN sensors. On the basis thereof, an optimisation problem is formed for which the cost function is the symbol error rate (SER) metric....

Synthesis and Properties of Functional Super Hydrophobic TiO2

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Razavi, Atieh (Author) ; Dolati, Abolghasem (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Titanium nano-oxide (TiO2) coatings have been used for self-cleaning, antimicrobial, and dust-proof designs. The degree of wetting of a solid surface with water in humid air depends on how the surface tension of the existing phases relates. The ratio between these tensions estimates the contact angle between a drop of water and the surface on which it is placed. A contact angle above 150 º is essential for surface overflow. In this study, 18 different combinations of titanium oxide and FAS, PDMS and PMS nanoparticles were obtained with a static contact angle of 165 to 150 º and a dynamic contact angle of 7 º.1 to 4.5 º. Following the measurement of water droplet slip speed on a sloping...
