    Abstract
    Incorporating an analytical approach to simulate the interaction of a series of long cracks and the induced current of a double-D excitation coil, we have developed a model-based method to do precise detection of the positions of the cracks in a metallic structure by using eddy-current superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) nondestructive evaluation (NDE) measurements. Conventionally, the structure of the defects is found by iteratively solving a numerical forward problem, which is usually based on finite-element, boundary-element, or volume-integral method.     Abstract
    The continuous decrease in CMOS technology feature size increases the susceptibility of such circuits to single event transient SET and single event upset SEU, caused by energetic particles striking system wires and flip flops. This paper presents a novel SET/SEU-detection technique for I/O ports where different sampling times used to detect the effects of SET/SEUs. The power dissipation, area, reliability, and propagation delay of the SET/SEU-detection I/O port are analyzed by HSPICE v.X-2005.v9 simulation. The results show that this I/O port can detect all SET/SEUs, by consumption of about 113% more power and occupation of 145% more area than simple I/O port. ©2009 IEEE

    Abstract
    This paper presents the design of a fault-tolerant universal asynchronous receiver transmitter (UART) called micro-FT-UART for safety-critical SoC-based applications. This UART exploits advantages of three fault-tolerant techniques to tolerate soft errors. The three techniques are triple modular redundancy (TMR), Hamming code and a new technique called correction by parity storing (CPS). An VHDL model of a micro-UART is simulated by the ModelSim v.6.0 and synthesized by the Synopsys Design Compiler v.X-2005.09- SP2.     Abstract
    Fluxgate magnetometers with different design and core materials have been made. The sensors have been characterized and the frequency responses of the sensors have been measured. The fluxgate magnetometer based on orthogonal design and amorphous wire core working in fundamental mode reaches 30pT/Hz noise level and 40μV/nT sensitivity. Finally an active magnetic shield constructed based on the amorphous core fluxgate magnetometer reaches more than 60dB field attenuation for DC field and has a good response for frequencies below 100Hz

    Superconducting Quantum Interference Devices (SQUIDs) are one of the most sensitive magnetic flux detectors. According to their high sensitivity, these sensors have many applications such as magnetic imaging, magnetocardiography and magnetoencephalography. In this project we have designed and implemented a fluxgate based active shield that would be used in magnetocardiography. One of the main concerns in RF-SQUID applications is suppression of the low and high frequency noises. These noise sources includes earth magnetic force, humming noise and RF noise caused by cell phones. These sources could unlock RF-SQUID sensors and hence needs to be shielded.     In this work, we have investigated and presented the bolometric response of freestanding membrane type of superconductive transition-edge detectors at micro-scale and submicron-scale substrate thicknesses. The technique applied here is based on the finite-size scaling method which is now extensively used for the calculation of thermal parameters of materials at low dimensions when the significance of surface energy contribution is not negligible compared to that of the total bulk energy. This method is used to evaluate the variation of specific heat per unit volume and heat conductivity and hence its effect on the total heat capacitance and conductance of the substrate versus its thickness....

    Geothermal piles are being used to serve dual purposes: transfer the structural load to the ground and act as heat exchanger elements to harvest and reject heat from and to the ground. Thermal loading can change the mechanical performance and bearing capacity of the geothermal piles during heating and cooling cycles. Therefore the thermo-mechanical responses of the geothermal piles should be comprehensively studied.     Abstract
    In a MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) radar system, proper design of transmit signal and receive filter is an advantageous tool to improve the detection performance. Thus, in this paper, we consider the problem of transmit code and receive filter design, in order to maximize the Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) at the receiver while enforcing a similarity constraint between the transmit space-time code (STC) and a reference STC which has a desirable ambiguity function. We will show that by solving such constrained optimization problem through successive iterations, our proposed method leads to satisfactory results

    This paper resolve the salinity-dependent interactions of polar components of crude oil at calcite-brine interface in atomic resolution. Molecular dynamics simulations carried out on the present study showed that ordered water monolayers develop immediate to a calcite substrate in contact with a saline solution. Carboxylic compounds, herein represented by benzoic acid (BA), penetrate into those hydration layers and directly linking to the calcite surface. Through a mechanism termed screening effect, development of hydrogen bonding between –COOH functional groups of BA and carbonate groups is inhibited by formation of a positively-charged Na+ layer over CaCO3 surface.     This work concerns the experimental investigation of surfactant alternating CO 2 injection in carbonate rocks. The core samples provided from a low-temperature fractured light oil reservoir, located in southwest Iran. The experiments were designed to observe the effect of CO 2-foam injection on gas mobility and oil recovery at different surfactant concentrations.     Abstract
    The present work investigates the thermal performance of a five turn Open Loop Pulsating Heat Pipe (OLPHP). The effects of working fluid namely water and ferrofluid, heat input, ferrofluid concentration, charging ratio, and orientation will be considered. Experimental results show that using ferrofluids can enhance the thermal performance in comparison with the case of distilled water. In addition, applying a magnetic field on the OLPHP charged with ferrofluid reduces its thermal resistance. Variation of the ferrofluid concentration results in different thermal performance of the OLPHP.
