Flow Simulation to Assess Effects of Various Parameters on Performance of a Gas Ultrasonic Flowmeter

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hosseini, Niloofar Sadat (Author) ; Mazaheri, Karim (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis we are going to improve an ultrasonic flowmeter accuracy by considering the influence of different parameters like temperature, pressure, etc. Firstl of all different cases of flow condition in which ultrasonic flowmeter may work are specified, then velocity and temperature profile of pipe flow are determined using Fluent software. In thr next step ultrasonic pulses transmitted are simulated by the use of code written in Matlab to find wave travel time in the flow. Evetually an accurate relation of calibration for flowmeter is determined by the use of travel time and all other flow properties to evaluate the accuracy of flowmeter in diffent cases. Relation extracted can be...

Simulation of a PEM (Positron Emission Mammography) System by GATE

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Reshtebar, Niloofar (Author) ; Sohrabpour, Mostafa (Supervisor) ; Setayeshi, Saeed (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among women. Mammography is considered the “gold standard” in the evaluation of the breast lesions from an imaging perspective. But this modality has limitations. Completed studies are used to overcome these limitations. The Positron Emission Mammography (PEM) is the one of these complementary methods. PEM imaging is a molecular imaging modality for the diagnosis of breast cancer. In this thesis, a commercial PEM system as Naviscan PEM has been simulated using the GATE program. This system consists of two parallel planes of detectors, each detector consists of 12 blocks with 6 × 2 array and each block consists of 169 crystals with 13...

Instagram and its Relation to Moral Values

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hosseini Renani, Niloofar Sadat (Author) ; Hosseini, Hassan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, the value-ladenness or value-neutrality of technology, new social media and as a result Instagram is investigated. It is also discussed whether values can be taken into account during the design process of technical artefacts, including new social media and Instagram, and methods are developed for this purpose. Several methods have been developed for this purpose, some of them and their compatibility with modern social media are explained; including the Value-Sensitive-Design method and the disclosive computer ethics design method. The frameworks of ethical philosophy such as virtue ethics are reviewed and the appropriate ethical framework for the analysis of new social media...

Using Compartment Modeling for the Non-Invasive Diagnosis of Malignant Tumors, as Well as Determining the Active Volume and Total Glycolysis of Malignant Tumors in PET/CT Imaging with FDG Radiation

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Reshtebar Sofla, Niloufar (Author) ; Hosseini, Abolfazl (Supervisor) ; Sheikhzadeh, Peyman (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
In static PET/CT imaging, the Standardized Uptake Value (SUV) parameter is used to evaluate diseases. The use of this parameter provides valuable information to physicians in many cases. However, this parameter has limitations and is not suitable for certain clinical applications, such as assessing treatment response and differentiating between benign and malignant tumors. In contrast, utilizing dynamic imaging systems can yield significant information through the extraction of kinetic features and quantitative analysis based on temporal data. However, the use of dynamic PET imaging in a clinical setting can be challenging due to factors such as prolonged scan times (> 60 minutes),...
