, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rezaei Zeynali, Fardin (Author) ; Hajji, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In real production systems, the process is always bound with the production of faulty items which different approaches may be taken toward handling these low quality items according to the nature of the industry and product. Repairing, discarding or selling items in a secondary market are some of the possible actions. We investigated the essentiality of coordinated decision making between a supplier and a buyer in this environment hence developing a model to minimize total costs of two parties with an attitude towards improving quality of production system. In common two layered supply chains, the buyer defines the economic order quantity (EOQ) according to its own decision criteria. These...

An Analytical Approach to Monge’s Problem

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rezaei, Nima (Author) ; Ranjbar Motlagh, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Monge’s problem was solved by Brenier in 1990. In general, the problem remained unresolved for a long time. some of its cases were solved by assumptions, but the general case and its analytical solution for the first time by Ian Bernier The French mathematician was introduced. He wrote his famous article Solved this nonlinear problem with technical assumptions. With the help of convex analysis and fundamental theorems in functions with vector values, he proved the existence and unity of this nonlinear problem. Monge’s problem, also known as optimal transport, suggests whether a stablesized mapping can be done by having two probabilistic spaces and one cost function. (Inverted image of any...

Influence of Polystyrene on Behavior of Light-Weight Concrete

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rezaei, Mohammad (Author) ; Khaloo, Alireza (Supervisor) ; Kazemi, Mohammad Taghi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Normal aggregates are replaced by polystyrene beads (EPS) due to their low unit weight. EPS concrete is known for its low density and environmentally friendly properties apart from having various pros such as better heat and sound isolation, affordability, and ease of construction. EPS grain size can also affect the compressive strength, and the tensile strength of EPS concrete compression is also inversely related to EPS grain diameter. The EPS concrete has four different percentages of EPS; 0%, 25%, 50%, and 75%. Each EPS percentage has six different unit weights; 15,20,25,30,35 and 40 kg/m3. In the present study 19 different types of mixing designs were used, the one with no EPS beads has...

Investigation of Shear Strength of Fillet Weld under In-Plane Eccentricity

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rezaei, Alireza (Author) ; Maleki, Shervin (Supervisor) ; Moazezi Mehre Tehran, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The principal objective of this investigation is to furnish a straightforward and effective technique for computing the load-bearing capacity of fillet welds when subjected to in-plane eccentric loads. Some approaches have been put forth to ascertain the load-carrying capability of fillet welds under such conditions over time. The existing design methods, such as the conventional elastic method, are very conservative and do not match the test results well due to neglecting the weld group's ductility and strain compatibility. On the other hand, the instantaneous center of rotation method (IC) considers the above parameters but requires complex calculations. Therefore, in the present study, a...

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Rezaei, Mohammad Reza (Author) ; Haji, Alireza (Supervisor) ; Houshmand، Mahmoud (Supervisor) ; Fatahi Valilai, Omid (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
In the traditional process planning, the expert decides upon the production process for a product by considering the previous cases and by decomposing, analysis and interpreting the shape of the product in terms of more familiar previous cases. In recent decades and by developments in the disciplines of the artificial intelligence, mass customization, cloud manufacturing and additive manufacturing, a necessity for process planning systems which need less human intervention by intelligent interpretation of the shape and consideration of the available data from previous productions, has emerged. Inspired by the traditional process planning by human expert, and considering the overall process...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Taheri, Abolfazl (Author) ; Bahraini, Alireza (Supervisor) ; Ranjbar Motlagh, Alireza (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
One of the important questions in mathematics is generalized. In case of metric spaces, one of the questions is: Can we extend notions of Riemannian geometry to arbitrary metric spaces smoothly? Ricci curvature is one of the most important concepts in differential geometry. Ricci curvature is defined for the Riemannian manifold and has many applications in mathematics and physics like Einstein’s equation in relativity theory. There is a good notion for a metric space having “sectional curvature bounded below by K” or “sectional curvature bounded above by K”, due to Alexandrov. Can we define the concept of Ricci curvature in metric space? A motivation for this question comes from Gromov’s...

    Abstract
Seismic design codes reduce loads by using response modification factor. Because of the reserved strength in structural elements and capacity of structure to dissipate energy, structures can be designed for lower seismic loads. This factor has modified over time. In this thesis, the effect of the reduction in behavior factor on the response of two kinds of reinforced concrete systems were evaluated. Moment resisting frames and dual systems with different heights and regularity in plan, heve been design according to the behavior factor which is recommended in the 3rd edition of the Iranian codes of practice for seismic resistance design of buildings (Standard No. 2800). Drift and...

    Abstract
Control of unstable non-minimum-phase delayed stochastic processes is a challenging problem. In this work based on the Diophantine equation and using pole-placement technique, a discrete control scheme for such processes has been proposed. Robust stability of the suggested control structure has been shown. Advantages of the proposed scheme over the existing algorithms have been shown through computer simulations. It has been shown that performance of the proposed scheme for handling model mismatch and colored noise is superior to the previous work proposed in the literature

    Abstract
Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to describe optical flow-based navigation of a very light fixed-wing aircraft in flight between obstacles. Design/methodology/approach - The optical flow information of two cameras mounted on the aircraft is used to detect the obstacle. It is assumed that the image processing has been completed and the optical flow vectors have been obtained beforehand. The optical flow is used to detect the obstacles and make a rapid turn manoeuvre for the aircraft. Findings - It is shown that using the optical flow feedback by itself is unable to give a rapid turn to the aircraft and its rate should be employed into the control law. Six degree-of-freedom flight...

, Article EPEC 2010 - IEEE Electrical Power and Energy Conference: "Sustainable Energy for an Intelligent Grid", 25 August 2010 through 27 August 2010 ; August , 2010 ; 9781424481880 (ISBN) Rezaei, P ; Vakilian, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
Capacitor placement/setting is one of the main means for loss reduction and voltage profile improvement in distribution systems. If capacitor placement is meant, the objective function will be the cost of energy losses besides the capacitors costs in a specified period of time. Here, reconfiguration can be used as a strategy to reform the base configuration of the distribution network in order to place the capacitors more efficiently with lower costs. On the other hand, if capacitors are already available in a network, optimum capacitors setting and network reconfiguration should be performed for power loss minimization. In this paper both power loss minimization and capacitor placement cost...

    Abstract
Cloud computing and web applications have further highlighted the need for powerful data centers with large bandwidth and low power consumption. In order to provide such a large bandwidth, today's electronic data centers require high power levels. Furthermore, communications and devices are not always used to their full potential. Optical networks can be a proper option for data centers, as they can offer large and variable bandwidth with lower power consumption compared to their electronic counterparts. In this regard, a dynamic all-optical network architecture is proposed in this paper, with bandwidth reconfiguration capability and low latency to reduce energy consumption. This proposed...
