, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rezai, Mohammad Mahdi (Author) ; Ahmadian, Mohammad Taghi (Supervisor) ; Movahhedy, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Investigation stability of chatter vibration is of great importance in machining processes. Finding frequency response function (FRF) at the tool tip is an effective method to predict stable machining regions. Commonly, the tool tip FRF is obtained using experimental modal analysis but this approach is often time consuming and requires expertise. In addition, changing tool or holder requires modal test which is a disadvantage, consequently modeling methods are of interest for researchers. Moreover, optimum design of machine tool is another benefit of modeling method. Also, in machining with flexible or micro tools in which experimental tests can not be performed, modeling methods would be...

Factorized Ground State and Magnetic Properties of Ferrimagnets

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rezai, Mohammad (Author) ; Langari, Abdollah (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The anisotropic Heisenberg ferrimagnet which is composed of two different kind of spins is studied. We have found the exact (factorized) ground state of a general class of ferrimagnets in the presence of a magnetic field which includes the frustrated, anisotropic and long range interactions for arbitrary dimensional space. The factorized ground state is a product of single particle kets on a bipartite lattice composed of two different spins (σ, ρ) which is characterized by two angles, a bi-angle state. The spin waves analysis around the exact ground state show two branch of excitations which is the origin of two dynamics of the model. The signature of these dynamics is addressed as a peak...

A new homologous series of linear aliphatic unsaturated hydroxypolyesters a polyol soft segments for polyurethanes: Synthesis and characterization [electronic resource]

    , Article Journal of Applied Polymer Science ; Volume 68, Issue 2, pages 173–183, 11 April 1998 Pourdjavadi, A. (Ali) ; Rezai, Nasrin ; Zohurian, M. J ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Synthesis and characterization of a new series of low molecular weight (MW = 500–3000) OH-terminated linear aliphatic unsaturated polyesters based on cis-2-butene-1,4-diol and oxalic to sebacic acid were investigated. Direct polycondensation and transesterification methods were used for the syntheses. The latter was recognized to be the preferable method due to its lower reaction temperature and time, lower diol/diacid ratio, absence of decarboxylation, and formation of a product with low polydispersity (Mw/Mn = 1.3–2.7). Elemental analysis, GPC, FTIR, 1H-NMR, DSC, and WAXD were used for the investigations. A segmented polyurethane based on poly (cis-2-butylene adipate) glycol was also...

    Abstract
All-quantum signal processing techniques are at the core of the successful advancement of most information-based quantum technologies. This article develops coherent and comprehensive methodologies and mathematical models to describe Fourier optical signal processing in full quantum terms for any input quantum state of light. We begin this article by introducing a spatially 2-D quantum state of a photon, associated with its wavefront and expressible as a 2-D creation operator. Then, by breaking down the Fourier optical processing apparatus into its key components, we strive to acquire the quantum unitary transformation or the input/output quantum relation of the 2-D creation operators....

    Abstract
We have found the exact (factorized) ground state of a general class of ferrimagnets in the presence of a magnetic field which includes the anisotropic and long-range interactions for arbitrary dimensional space. In particular cases our model represents many spin chains with bond alternation of antiferromagnetic-ferromagnetic coupling, ferrimagnetic spin ladders, and also homogeneous spin- s models. The factorized ground state is a product of single-particle kets on a bipartite lattice composed of two different spins (ρ,σ) which is characterized by two angles, a biangle state. The spin-wave analysis around the exact ground state shows two branch of excitations which are the origin of two...

Investigating the Chemical Degradation of Pipe Grade Polyethylene in the Chlorinated Water

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rezai Gharabaghlar, Ali (Author) ; Pircheraghi, Gholamreza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Polyethylene is one of the most widely used polymers for the production of drinking water pipes. The presence of chlorine-based disinfectants in drinking water leads to long-term chemical destruction of pipes and sometimes reduces the life of pipes by half. Therefore, it is very important to investigate various factors affecting the chemical resistance of polyethylene pipes. The crystalline microstructure of the substance is affected by the average molecular weight, type and distribution comonomer on the chain, is one of the important and influential factors on the chemical resistance of these species against chlorine dioxide as a disinfectant. In this research, the chemical resistance of...

    Abstract
Artifact removal is an essential part in electroencephalogram (EEG) recording and the raw EEG signals require preprocessing before feature extraction. In this work, we implemented three filtering methods and demonstrated their effects on the performance of different classifiers. Bandpass digital filtering, median filtering and facet method are three preprocessing approaches investigated in this paper. We used data set lib from the BCI competition 2003 for training and testing phase. Our accuracy varied between 80% and 96%. In our work, we demonstrated that the problems of choosing the classifier and preprocessing methods are not independent of each other. Two of our approaches could achieve...

    Abstract
In this paper, the performance of five classifiers in P300 speller paradigm are compared. Theses classifiers are Linear Support Vector Machine (LSVM), Gaussian Support Vector Machine (RSVM), Neural Network (NN), Fisher Linear Discriminant (FLD), and Kernel Fisher Discriminant (KFD). In classification of P300 waves, there has been a trend to use SVM classifiers. Although they have shown a good performance, in this paper, it is shown that the FLD classifiers outperform the SVM classifiers. FLD classifier uses only ten channels of the recorded electroencephalogram (EEG) signals. This makes them a very good candidate for real-time applications. In addition, FLD approach does not need any...

Phase diagram of the XXZ ferrimagnetic spin-(1/2, 1) chain in the presence of transverse magnetic field

    , Article Journal of Statistical Mechanics: Theory and Experiment ; Volume 2011, Issue 8 , August , 2011 ; 17425468 (ISSN) Langari, A ; Abouie, J ; Asadzadeh, M. Z ; Rezai, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
We investigate the phase diagram of an anisotropic ferrimagnetic spin-(1/2, 1) in the presence of a non-commuting (transverse) magnetic field. We find a magnetization plateau for the isotropic case while there is no plateau for the anisotropic ferrimagnet. The magnetization plateau can appear only when the Hamiltonian has the U(1) symmetry in the presence of the magnetic field. The anisotropic model is driven by the magnetic field from the Néel phase for low fields to the spin-flop phase for intermediate fields and then to the paramagnetic phase for high fields. We find the quantum critical points and their dependence on the anisotropy of the aforementioned field-induced quantum phase...

    Abstract
This paper proposes a new approach to watermarking multimedia products based on the combination of redundant discrete wavelet transform and independent component analysis. The original image is decomposed by RDWT, and watermark is embedded in to LL sub-band frequency according mixing model of the ICA, after that for enhancing the robustness of the watermark, the perceptual model is applied via stochastic approach for watermark adapting. This is based on computation of a noise visibility function (NVF) which has local image properties so the strength of watermarking is controllable. Principal component analysis (PCA) whitening process and FastICA techniques are introduced to ensure a blind...

Construction of an Experimental Device for Foaming Agent and an Experimental Study of the Properties of Foaming Agent

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mohammad Karami (Author) ; Bazargan, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The primary purpose of acidizing operations in the oil and gas industry is to enhance hydrocarbon production. Acidizing has been a common and conventional method for years, especially when production engineers face issues like declining reservoir pressure leading to reduced production rates. Initially, the treatment solution is referred to as matrix acidizing. In acidizing operations, different additives are combined with the acid to control its behavior in the reservoir. These additives may include iron control agents, corrosion inhibitors, friction reducers, and more. Incompatibility among these additives, the acid, and reservoir fluids can lead to severe damage to the reservoir....

A misbehavior‐tolerant multipath routing protocol for wireless Ad hoc networks [electronic resource]

, Article International Journal of Research in Wireless Systems (IJRWS) ; Vol. 2, Issue 9, pp. , Sep. 2013 Sedghi, H. (Haniyeh) ; Pakravan, Mohammad Reza ; Aref, Mohammad Reza ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Secure routing is a major key to service maintenance in ad hoc networks. Ad hoc nature exposes the network to several types of node misbehavior or attacks. As a result of the resource limitations in such networks nodes may have a tendency to behave selfishly. Selfish behavior can have drastic impacts on network performance. We have proposed a Misbehavior-Tolerant Multipath Routing protocol (MTMR) which detects and punishes all types of misbehavior such as selfish behavior, wormhole, sinkhole and grey-hole attacks. The protocol utilizes a proactive approach to enforce cooperation. In addition, it uses a novel data redirection method to mitigate the impact of node misbehavior on network...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mohammadi, Mohammad Ali (Author) ; Vesal, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Rahmati, Mohammad Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this work, the dynamic competition between firms providing internet services is studied. The framework is Markov equilibrium whereby structural parameters are obtained using two-step estimations, allowing for analyzing the situation in case of subsidies for service upgrade. The results show that such subsidy has little effect on the number of firms while increasing the number of fast firms
