Two novel shear fuses in moment resting frames

    , Article Journal of Constructional Steel Research ; Volume 144 , May , 2018 , Pages 198-210 ; 0143974X (ISSN) Rezazadeh Kalehbasti, P ; Dolatshahi, K. M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Based on the code specifications, in moment-resisting frames the span-to-depth ratio has to be larger than a minimum value to make sure of adequate plastic hinging at beam-ends. This provision poses a restriction on the use of deep beams with short spans, especially for the framed-tube system in tall buildings. In this paper, a new energy dissipation method is introduced for moment-resisting frames by modifying the mid-span of the beam by two different methods, resulting in: (i) Perforated Shear Links (PSLs) and (ii) Slit Shear Links (SSLs). The links dissipate energy through shear yielding of the web, weakened by perforation or slitting, respectively. A thorough study is conducted on the...

Wedge disclinations in the shell of a core-shell nanowire within the surface/interface elasticity

    , Article Mechanics of Materials ; Vol. 68, Issue , 2014 , pp. 45-63 ; ISSN: 01676636 Rezazadeh Kalehbasti, S ; Gutkin, M. Y ; Shodja, H. M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The elastic behaviors of a two-axes dipole of wedge disclinations and an individual wedge disclination located inside the shell of a free standing core-shell nanowire is studied within the surface/interface elasticity theory. The corresponding boundary value problem is solved using complex potential functions, defined through modeling the disclination dipole by two finite walls of infinitesimal edge dislocations. The stress field, disclination strain energies and image forces acting on the disclinations, are calculated and studied in detail. It is shown that the stresses are rather inhomogeneous across the nanowire cross section, change their signs and reach local maxima and minima far from...

Studying Edge Dislocations and Wedge Disclinations in Core-Shell Nanowires by Incorporating Surface Effect

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rezazadeh Kalehbasti, Shaghayegh (Author) ; Mohammadi Shodja, Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
By considering the effect of surface/interface stresses, classical problems of the interaction between dislocations/disclinations and nanowires are addressed. In particular, two distinct problems are solved: the first one consists of an edge dislocation seated inside the shell of a core-shell nanowire and the second one investigates a wedge disclination (dipole) located inside the shell of a core-shell nanowire. The stress field of the nanowire, strain energy per unit length and the image forces acting on the defects are calculated and discussed in detail. Moreover, the results are compared with their classical counterparts. These results show that by considering the effect of...

    Abstract
In this article we have acquired exact solitary wave solutions for the truncated Ω- fractional Lakshamanan–Porsezian–Daniel model with Kerr, parabolic, and anti-cubic nonlinear laws employing extended auxiliary technique. Diverse set of exponential function solutions acquired relying on a map between the considered equation and an auxiliary ODE. Obtained solutions are recast in several hyperbolic and trigonometric forms based on different restrictions between parameters involved in equations and integration constants that appear in the solution. A few significant ones among the reported solutions are pictured to perceive the physical utility and peculiarity of the considered model using...

    Abstract
In this research, titanium dioxide (TiO2) ultra-thin films have been successfully obtained on lamina-glass substrates by thermal oxidation of DC magnetron sputtered titanium. The as-deposited and the annealed films have been characterized by different techniques. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) results revealed the amorphous structure of as-deposited titanium and anatase crystal structure for the annealed films. The atomic force microscopy (AFM) results showed that increasing the annealing temperature could lead to rougher and larger grain size in the films. Finally, the optical data and band-gap calculations of the films were obtained using the transmittance spectrum, indicating that...

Surface/interface effects on elastic behavior of an edge dislocation in the shell of a core-shell nanowire

    , Article European Journal of Mechanics, A/Solids ; Volume 41 , September–October , 2013 , Pages 86-100 ; 09977538 (ISSN) Gutkin, M. Yu ; Rezazadeh Kalehbasti, S ; Shodja, H. M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The elastic behavior of an edge dislocation placed in the shell of a free-standing core-shell nanowire is considered within the theory of surface/interface elasticity. Using the method of complex potential functions the expressions for the stress field of the dislocation, image forces on the dislocation, and the dislocation strain energy are derived and studied in detail. A special attention is paid to non-classical effects revealed within the surface/interface elasticity approach where a characteristic length parameter referred to as surface/interface modulus is introduced. These effects are (i) the stress oscillations along the shell surface and core-shell interface for negative values of...

Design of optimum vibration absorbers for a bus vehicle to suppress unwanted vibrations against harmonic and random road excitations

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 28, Issue 1 , 2021 , Pages 241-254 ; 10263098 (ISSN) Rezazadeh, A ; Moradi, H ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Unwanted vibrations of vehicles are regarded as harmful threats to human health in biomechanical and psychophysical terms. Road roughness is considered as the main cause of unwanted vibrations of bus vehicles. Vertical seat vibrations were found via simulating a 10-Degree-Of-Freedom (10-DOF) model of an intercity bus vehicle under harmonic and random excitations caused by road roughness. To suppress undesirable vibrations, mass-spring-damper passive absorbers were proposed in a 13-Degree-Of- Freedom (13-DOF) model of the bus. Following the optimization of the characteristics of embedded passive absorbers under each seat and implementation of the designed absorbers, the vertical displacement...

Encoding the information in relative parameters

, Article Physics Letters, Section A: General, Atomic and Solid State Physics ; Volume 407 , 2021 ; 03759601 (ISSN) Rezazadeh, F ; Mani, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
We investigate the problem of communicating three parameters in the absence of shared reference frame. We explore two methods in which the relative angles of spins are used to encode the parameters. In the first method we use three spins that carry the information in their relative angles while in the second method we use three disjoint spin-pairs and the information is sent through the relative angles of each individual pair. We show that in the first method, the information conveyed by each qubit is more than the second one, and that is while it requires fewer particles. © 2021 Elsevier B.V

Generation of Quantum Correlation by the Environment

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rezazadeh, Fatemeh (Author) ; Memarzadeh, Laleh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In most of quantum information protocols, entanglement or, in general expression, quantum correlation, plays the major role. So it is very important to know the ways of generating entanglement and protecting it against noise.
In a general view, environment is usually known as a destructive agent for entangled states. Being exposed to environment, non-diagonal elements of an entangled state’s density matrix would tend to zero, because of decoherence effect. Thus, the entanglement would be disappear. But, recent studies have shown that, this destructive agent can be convert to a useful agent for generating entanglement between system components.
In this thesis, at first, the...

Investigating the Response Modification Factor of 3-D Steel Braced/Moment-Resisting Frames with Irregularity in Plan

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rezazadeh, Mohsen (Author) ; Khonsari, Vahid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Study of former earthquakes damages reveals that irregular structures are more susceptive to failure than regular ones. Irregular structures are classified into two categories, namely those with irregularity in elevation and the ones with irregularity in plan. Besides, one of the crucial parameters in working out the earthquake’s equivalent static load is response modification coefficient (R). Based on the type of seismic lateral force-resisting system, this parameter can have various values. In this research, using nonlinear static analysis, the response modification coefficient of a great number of 3-D steel frames of 5, 7 and 9 m spans and having 1 to 10 stories with various...

A Comparative Study of Numerical Integration Algorithms Used in Real-Time Hybrid Simulation

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rezazadeh, Hassan (Author) ; Ahmadizadeh, Mehdi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Real time hybrid simulation is considered as one of the most efficient experimental methods for investigation of the behavior of structures and their components during seismic loading. In pseudo-dynamic approach of hybrid simulation considered in this study, the majority of the structural mass is modelled numerically and inertia forces are calculated in the numerical model.Using this approach, loading can be carried out on a real-time basis, and component scaling requirements will be reduced. As a result, in addition to lower costs, this testing method is sometimes considered to be more realistic compared to shaking table tests. However, several challenges are currently faced in...

    Abstract
Small Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generators (PMSG's) are widely used in low power wind turbines. In order to inject the electrical power, generated by PMSG, to the grid, a back-To-back AC/AC power electronic converter is required. In this paper, a novel low cost efficient AC/DC converter is proposed for rectifier stage to obtain the maximum power per ampere of PMSG by using Power Factor Correction method. The new structure is based on DCM SEPIC converter. Reducing the number of semi-conductor switches has decreased converter cost. Additionally, other advantages of this Converter are employing easy control method to obtain the maximum power per ampere and using Synchronous inductance of...

Power of a shared singlet state in comparison to a shared reference frame

    Abstract
We show that a shared singlet state (SSS) can supersede a shared reference frame (SRF) in certain quantum communication tasks, i.e., tasks in which two remote players are required to estimate certain parameters of a two-particle state sent to them. This shows that task-specific values of resources may be somewhat different from their common values based on their exchange possibilities. © 2019 American Physical Society. ©2019 American Physical Society

Secure alignment of coordinate systems using quantum correlation

    , Article Physical Review A ; Volume 96, Issue 2 , 2017 ; 24699926 (ISSN) Rezazadeh, F ; Mani, A ; Karimipour, V ; Sharif University of Technology
    2017
    Abstract
We show that two parties far apart can use shared entangled states and classical communication to align their coordinate systems with a very high fidelity. Moreover, compared with previous methods proposed for such a task, i.e., sending parallel or antiparallel pairs or groups of spin states, our method has the extra advantages of using single-qubit measurements and also being secure, so that third parties do not extract any information about the aligned coordinate system established between the two parties. The latter property is important in many other quantum information protocols in which measurements inevitably play a significant role. © 2017 American Physical Society

Quantum key distribution with no shared reference frame

    , Article Quantum Information Processing ; Volume 19, Issue 2 , 2020 Rezazadeh, F ; Mani, A ; Karimipour, V ; Sharif University of Technology
    Springer  2020
    Abstract
Any quantum communication task requires a common reference frame (i.e., phase, coordinate system). In particular, quantum key distribution requires different bases for preparation and measurements of states which are obviously based on the existence of a common frame of reference. Here, we show how QKD can be achieved in the absence of any common frame of reference. We study the coordinate reference frame, where the two parties do not even share a single direction, but the method can be generalized to other general frames of reference, pertaining to other groups of transformations. © 2019, Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature

It is beyond dispute that technological change acts as a driver of economic growth. In developing countries where highly suffer from lack of this process, incremental innovation is considered as main source of technology capability building and development In moving toward this pass and to meet with time pressure of catching up, developing countries acquire the initial required knowledge base through technology absorption from outside sources; On the other hand as development is a lengthy process, it is important that the absorbed knowledge still has the potential of more advancement in future. Therefore a selection instrument with ability of assessing different knowledge base or...

Optimization of total harmonic current distortion and torque pulsation reduction in high-power induction motors using genetic algorithms

    , Article Journal of Zhejiang University: Science A ; Volume 9, Issue 12 , 2008 , Pages 1741-1752 ; 1673565X (ISSN) Sayyah, A ; Aflaki, M ; Rezazadeh, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
This paper presents a powerful application of genetic algorithm (GA) for the minimization of the total harmonic current distortion (THCD) in high-power induction motors fed by voltage source inverters, based on an approximate harmonic model. That is, having defined a desired fundamental output voltage, optimal pulse patterns (switching angles) are determined to produce the fundamental output voltage while minimizing the THCD. The complete results for the two cases of three and five switching instants in the first quarter period of pulse width modulation (PWM) waveform are presented. Presence of harmonics in the stator excitation leads to a pulsing-torque component. Considering the fact that...

Comparative analysis of sectoral innovation system and diamond model (the case of telecom sector of iran)

    Abstract
Porter's model of Competitive advantage of nations (named as Diamond Model) has been widely used and criticized as well, over recent two decades. On the other hand, non-mainstream economists have tried to propose new frameworks for industrial analysis, that among them, Sectoral Innovation System (SIS) is one of the most influential ones. After proposing an assessment framework, we use this framework to compare SIS and Porter's models and apply them to the case of second mobile operator in Iran. Briefly, SIS model sheds light on the innovation process and competence building and focuses on system failures that are of special importance in the context of developing countries, while Diamond...
