    Abstract
It is necessary to evaluate dosimetry accuracy in the framework of advanced methods for radiation therapy such as Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) to ensure reliability of a proposed treatment. The ability of the Monte Carlo codes to model linear accelerator (LINAC) and to calculate the exact dose distribution in clinical radiation therapy is one of the reasons to use such codes. The purpose of this project is to validate a treatment planning system with BEAMnrc and DOSXYZnrc Monte Carlo codes. In this study, the dose distribution obtained from DOSXYZnrc in considered to be thr main criterion with which the dose distribution obtained from treatment planning system is assessed and...

    Abstract
In this letter, we improve the tradeoff among the downlink (DL) rates of service providers (SPs), provided by a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) using non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) technique. In this respect, NOMA provides a suitable opportunity for the MVNO to share resources among SPs more efficiently. Regarding interaction among the DL rates provided for SPs we formulate our resource allocation problem as a multiobjective optimization problem (MOOP) while taking into account user fairness. By using the weighted Tchebycheff technique, we are able to solve the formulated MOOP by considering different tradeoffs among DL rates of different SPs. Our numerical results show that by...

A Novel Moving Magnetic Levitation Device for 3D Manipulation of Small Objects

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Molavian Jazi, Mehdi (Author) ; Vossoughi, Gholamreza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Magnetic levitation is an appropriate solution for noncontact 3D manipulation. Workspace of the previously proposed maglev systems is confined to a relatively small cube, which severely limits the application of this technology. In addition, most of the previously given mechanisms require the design and application of a subsystem in order to unify their magnetic field. In this paper, a moving magnet is proposed which results in a horizontally extendable workspace; moreover, the field unifying section is not needed since one electromagnet only is used. Further, details of the mechanism and finite element based design procedure of the magnet are presented. Dynamic equations of the system...

The Effect of Red Light Violation on the Level of Service in Urban Signalized Intersections

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sharifian Jazi, Vahid (Author) ; Nassiri, Habibollah (Supervisor)
    Abstract
One of the frequent aspects of lawlessness at signalized intersections, is red-light violation (RLV). In addition to its adverse effect on intersection safety, RLV can cause delay in the startup of the vehicles in the next phase defined as “green flow”. In this research, in order to investigate the adverse effect of RLV, the required data were collected from two signalized intersections in the City of Esfahan, Iran using recording cameras. Then, using a cellular network in the intersections and the Aimsun traffic simulation software, the effects of RLV on the delay, capacity, and level of service of the intersections were evaluated. The results show that the behavior of the drivers in the...

    Three-Dimensional Decoupled Atomic Norm Minimization

    , Article ICASSP, IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing - Proceedings ; 2024 , Pages 8716-8720 ; 15206149 (ISSN) Jazi, M.B ; Karbasi, S. M ; Babu, P ; Sharif University of Technology
    2024
    Abstract
This paper focuses on the problem of three-dimensional (3D) frequency retrieval from a set of time samples. The assumption made in this study is that the signal being analyzed consists of K continuous-valued 3D complex sinusoidal signals. The main objective is to identify all frequency components when only one snapshot of regularly-spaced time samples is available. The vectorized version of atomic norm minimization (ANM) method could accurately solve the problem. Nonetheless, this technique demands significant computational resources. In this paper, we propose a computationally-efficient method based on atomic norm minimization known as three-dimensional decoupled ANM (3D-DANM). This...

Rate-power-interference optimization in underlay OFDMA CRNs with imperfect CSI

    , Article IEEE Communications Letters ; Volume 21, Issue 7 , 2017 , Pages 1657-1660 ; 10897798 (ISSN) Robat Mili, M ; Musavian, L ; Ng, D. W. K ; Sharif University of Technology
    2017
    Abstract
Achieving higher transmission rate while reducing transmission power and induced interference on neighboring receivers is deemed necessary for the advancement of future generation networks and is particularly challenging, since these directions could be conflicting in nature. This letter adopts a multiobjective optimization (MOOP) approach to settle the tradeoffs between these three conflicting objectives in orthogonal frequency-division multiple access-based cognitive radio networks. Besides, unlike most of the work in the literature that studied the imperfect channel side information (CSI) of the link between the secondary transmitter and the primary receiver to evaluate ergodic capacity,...

    Thermal-aware Routing Algorithm in Fault-tolerant Optical Networks-on-Chip

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Erfani Jazi, Hamid Reza (Author) ; Koohi, Somayyeh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
During the recent years, the emerging technology of photonic, on-chip communication has been widely explored to resolve the problems of traditional electrical communication in terms of performance and power consumption. Micro-Resonator (MR) as the photonic building block for optical comunication is very sensitive to temperature and process variation. Variation of resonance wavelength of a micro-resonator as a result of temperature fluctuations causes tremendous error for optical data routing through the waveguides, and reduce the reliability of network. A temperature-aware routing algorithm enables the network to tolerate fault and continue working properly. Temperature variation of MRs is a...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Bagheri Jazi, Mohammad Reza (Author) ; Karbasi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, we address the problem of joint Range, Angle and Doppler frequency estimation in FDA-MIMO radars. Target parameter estimation is among the most important areas of research in radar signal processing. In this field of research, there are numerous challenges to overcome, including low estimation accuracy, a scarcity of snapshots, and the high computational complexity of algorithms. For this reason, diverse methods have been developed to solve this problem. Each of these methods has its own features and capabilities, focusing on one or more of the existing challenges. The application of these methods also depends on various factors, including the signal structure, which is...

How to increase energy efficiency in cognitive radio networks

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Communications ; Volume 64, Issue 5 , 2016 , Pages 1829-1843 ; 00906778 (ISSN) Robat Mili, M ; Musavian, L ; Hamdi, K. A ; Marvasti, F ; Sharif University of Technology
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc  2016
    Abstract
In this paper, we investigate the achievable energy efficiency of cognitive radio networks where two main modes are of interest, namely, spectrum sharing (known as underlay paradigm) and spectrum sensing (or interweave paradigm). In order to improve the energy efficiency, we formulate a new multiobjective optimization problem that jointly maximizes the ergodic capacity and minimizes the average transmission power of the secondary user network while limiting the average interference power imposed on the primary user receiver. The multiobjective optimization will be solved by first transferring it into a single objective problem (SOP), namely, a power minimization problem, by using the...

Robustly stabilizing controller synthesis for haptic devices with maximized transparency

    , Article ASME 2010 10th Biennial Conference on Engineering Systems Design and Analysis, ESDA2010, 12 July 2010 through 14 July 2010, Istanbul ; Volume 5 , 2010 , Pages 125-132 ; 9780791849194 (ISBN) Tajaddodianfar, F ; Ahmadian, M ; Vossoughi, G ; Molavian Jazi, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
Performance of a haptic device is evaluated based on the concept of transparency which indicates the match between the impedance transmitted to the user and the target virtual impedance. Stability of a haptic device prevalently has been evaluated based on the passivity criterion. Due to conservativeness of passivity, it appears as an obstacle to improve transparency. In this paper, passivity is suggested to be replaced by the complementary stability criterion which accounts for the robust stability of the interaction in the presence of uncertain user hand dynamics In this respect, an algorithm is proposed which guarantees transparency of the haptic device in a stable manner. Assuming that...

Multi-Objective resource allocation for D2D and enabled MC-NOMA networks by Tchebycheff method

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology ; Volume 70, Issue 5 , 2021 , Pages 4464-4470 ; 00189545 (ISSN) Bayat, S ; Khalili, A ; Zargari, S ; Robat Mili, M ; Han, Z ; Sharif University of Technology
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc  2021
    Abstract
This paper considers a resource allocation problem in device-to-device (D2D) communications sharing the same frequency spectrum. In particular, the cellular users (CUs) utilize non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) while D2D users (DUs) adopt the orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA). A multi-objective optimization problem (MOOP) is formulated, which jointly maximizes the sum rate of DUs and CUs in uplink communications while taking into account the maximum transmit power budget and minimum data rate requirement for DUs and CUs. This MOOP is handled by the weighted Tchebycheff method, which converts it into a single-objective optimization (SOOP). Then, the monotonic...

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Hadian Jazi, Majid (Author) ; Shahshahani, Siavash (Supervisor) ; Shahshahani, Mehrdad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, zero-divisor ideal graphs and geometric zero-divisor graphs are introduced and are partially studied. We begin by studying the relation between the zero-divisor graph and zero-divisor ideal graph associated to principal ideal rings. We also investigate some of the basic properties of the zero-divisor ideal graphs, including their girth and diameter. Then, we introduce the geometric zero-divisor graphs associated to reduced schemes and study their basic properties to some extent. Finally, we conclude by characterizing all reduced schemes whose associated geometric zero-divisor graph contains a vertex which is...

    Abstract
In this paper, we analyze the tradeoff between the profits gained by mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) in an orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA)-based virtualized wireless networks (VWNs). In this respect, MVNOs rent the network resources from a mobile network operator (MNO) to create virtual resources based on allocated rates and the cost due to allocated transmit powers in two different strategies: resource-based isolation strategy and rate-based isolation strategy. In resource-based isolation strategy, it is assumed that the whole bandwidth in each base station is divided equally between MVNOs whereas in rate-based isolation strategy, the whole bandwidth in each...

    Abstract
In this paper we explore the existence of periodic solutions of a nonautonomous semi-ratio-dependent predator-prey dynamical system with functional responses on time scales. To illustrate the utility of this work, we should mention that, in our results this system with a large class of monotone functional responses, always has at least one periodic solution. For instance, this system with some celebrated functional responses such as Holling type-II (or Michaelis-Menten), Holling type-III, Ivlev, mx (Holling type I), sigmoidal [e.g., Real and mx2/((A + x)(B +x))] and some other monotone functions, has always at least one ω-periodic solution. Besides, for some well-known functional responses...
