Design and Manufacture of Energy Harvesting Set-up from Oscillating Airfoil in Stall Flutter Condition

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Roghani, Mostafa (Author) ; Ebrahimi, Abbas (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Energy harvesting is a process in which energies in nature are recycled on a small scale and used to power equipment such as sensors, data recorders and transmitters, IoT monitoring and applications. Recently, energy harvesting from a new model based on movements caused by vortices of wind and water flow has been considered. The fall of unstable vortices behind the body induces aero-hydrodynamic forces into the body. If the body has degrees of freedom of movement, the vortex phenomenon can cause the body to rotate or rotate, resulting in energy extraction. Previous studies show that very little activity has been done so far on energy extraction from the Stall flutter phenomenon. The main...

    Abstract
Let G be a graph, a dominating induced matching (DIM) of G is an induced matching that dominates every edge of G. In this paper we show that if a graph G has a DIM, then χ(G) ≤ 3. Also, it is shown that if G is a connected graph whose all edges can be partitioned into DIM, then G is either a regular graph or a biregular graph and indeed we characterize all graphs whose edge set can be partitioned into DIM. Also, we prove that if G is an r-regular graph of order n whose edges can be partitioned into DIM, then n is divisible by (2r-1r-1) and n=(2r-1r-1) if and only if G is the Kneser graph with parameters r- 1 , 2 r- 1. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Japan KK, part...

Complexity of computing the anti-ramsey numbers for paths

    , Article 45th International Symposium on Mathematical Foundations of Computer Science, MFCS 2020, 25 August 2020 through 26 August 2020 ; Volume 170 , 2020 Amiri, S. A ; Popa, A ; Roghani, M ; Shahkarami, G ; Soltani, R ; Vahidi, H ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The anti-Ramsey numbers are a fundamental notion in graph theory, introduced in 1978, by Erdös, Simonovits and Sós. For given graphs G and H the anti-Ramsey number ar(G, H) is defined to be the maximum number k such that there exists an assignment of k colors to the edges of G in which every copy of H in G has at least two edges with the same color. Usually, combinatorists study extremal values of anti-Ramsey numbers for various classes of graphs. There are works on the computational complexity of the problem when H is a star. Along this line of research, we study the complexity of computing the anti-Ramsey number ar(G, Pk), where Pk is a path of length k. First, we observe that when k is...

Adsorption and oxidation study on arsenite removal from aqueous solutions by polyaniline/polyvinyl alcohol composite

    , Article Journal of Water Process Engineering ; Volume 14 , 2016 , Pages 101-107 ; 22147144 (ISSN) Roghani, M ; Nakhli, S. A. A ; Aghajani, M ; Rostami, M. H ; Borghei, S. M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2016
    Abstract
In this study, the Polyaniline/Polyvinyl Alcohol (PANi/PVA) composite was examined for arsenite (As(III)) removal from aqueous solution. The effect of several parameters including PVA concetration (0–5 g/L), pH (1–13), adsorbent dosage (0.5–6 g/L), contact time (0–120 min), initial As(III) concentration (0.5–100 mg/L), and As(III) oxidation were evaluated on the adsorption efficiency. The results indicated that PVA has an effective role in increasing adsorptive capacity of PANi, by changing its morphology and extending its active surface sites. The adsorption process was pH dependent and As(III) removal consistently improved by increasing solution pH. Adsorption reached equilibrium within...

Rcci Curvature for Metric-Measure Space via Optimal Transport

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Taheri, Abolfazl (Author) ; Bahraini, Alireza (Supervisor) ; Ranjbar Motlagh, Alireza (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
One of the important questions in mathematics is generalized. In case of metric spaces, one of the questions is: Can we extend notions of Riemannian geometry to arbitrary metric spaces smoothly? Ricci curvature is one of the most important concepts in differential geometry. Ricci curvature is defined for the Riemannian manifold and has many applications in mathematics and physics like Einstein’s equation in relativity theory. There is a good notion for a metric space having “sectional curvature bounded below by K” or “sectional curvature bounded above by K”, due to Alexandrov. Can we define the concept of Ricci curvature in metric space? A motivation for this question comes from Gromov’s...

    Abstract
Seismic design codes reduce loads by using response modification factor. Because of the reserved strength in structural elements and capacity of structure to dissipate energy, structures can be designed for lower seismic loads. This factor has modified over time. In this thesis, the effect of the reduction in behavior factor on the response of two kinds of reinforced concrete systems were evaluated. Moment resisting frames and dual systems with different heights and regularity in plan, heve been design according to the behavior factor which is recommended in the 3rd edition of the Iranian codes of practice for seismic resistance design of buildings (Standard No. 2800). Drift and...

    Abstract
Nanogels are three-dimensional nanoscale networks formed by physically or chemically cross-linking polymers. Nanogels have been explored as drug delivery systems due to their advantageous properties, such as biocompatibility, high stability, tunable particle size, drug loading capacity, and possible modification of the surface for active targeting by attaching ligands that recognize cognate receptors on the target cells or tissues. Nanogels can be designed to be stimulus responsive, and react to internal or external stimuli such as pH, temperature, light and redox, thus resulting in the controlled release of loaded drugs. This “smart” targeting ability prevents drug accumulation in...

The Ricci Flow with Applications to the Poincare and Calabi Conjectures

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Safdari, Mohammad (Author) ; Bahreini, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Poincare conjecture is one of the rst eorts for classifying 3-manifolds that was stated in the begining of 20th century. Eorts for proving this conjecture continued for about 100 years and nally Perelman has solved it in 2003. He has used Ricci ow which has been invented by Richard Hamilton in the early 80's. In this thesis rst we will introduce Ricci ow and will state the results before Perelman such as short time and long time existence of solution. Then we will mention some applications of Ricci ow and will state an explanation of the proof of uniformization and Calabi conjecture by Ricci ow. After that we start the main part of the thesis. In this part we will montion one of the...

Identification and Abnormal Condition Detection of a Cement Rotary Kiln

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sadeghian, Masoud (Author) ; Fatehi, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
One of the most important parts of a cement factory is the cement rotary kiln which plays a key role in quality and quantity of produced cement. In this part, the physical exertion and bilateral movement of air and materials, together with chemical reactions take place. Thus, this system has immensely complex and nonlinear dynamic equations. These equations have not worked out yet. Only in exceptional case; however, a large number of the involved parameters were crossed out and an approximation model was presented instead. This issue caused many problems for designing a cement rotary kiln controller. In this thesis, we employed a nonlinear system identification method for identification,...

Entanglement and Decoherence in Optomechanical Systems Coupled through Photothermal Effects

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Abdi, Mehdi (Author) ; Bahrampour, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Optomechanical systems have attracted considerable attention in the last decade. Such a raising prominence is mainly due to its capability in providing new insight into the quantum behavior of macroscopic objects and exploring the interface between quantum and classical mechanics. Alongside this fundamental quest, cavity optomechanics has many other benefits, ranging from very precise measurements on forces and positions to quantum information processing. In this thesis, we investigate quantum properties of such systems. Particularly, we study cooling of the mechanical resonator toward its ground state and the entanglement between this mechanical resonator and the cavity field. Cooling the...

Improvement in Reinforced Concrete Beam-Column Connections Behaviour using FRP Sheets

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rokrokian, Ali (Author) ; Khaloo, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Performance of reinforced concrete frames is highly dependent on detailing of the joint connections between its members, such as beams and columns. To have a good structural behavior, joints must show ductile behavior and designed based on the philosophy of strong column-weak beam. In the case of sever lacking ductility, strength or even rigidity of the connections, or having a weak column-strong beam, in the existing structures, there is a need for seismic upgrading of the connection. There are several ways for seismic upgrading of this type of connections. In the last decade Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) widely has been used to strengthening the reinforced concrete (RC) members. Most of...
