    Abstract
    Considerable researches have been focused on zinc-iron (Zn-Fe) alloy coatings due to their superior characteristics among zinc alloy electrodeposits in recent years. The corrosion behavior of these coatings depends on the phase structure and morphology of the Zn-Fe deposits. In this work the effects of pulse plating variables such as current density, off-time, frequency and pulse modes on the morphology and phase structure of Zn-Fe deposits was studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS) analysis.     To perform a long lasting, crack-free repair welding on ultrahigh strength steels, the filler metal must be chosen and applied properly. Avoiding several short-term repairs or replacements, the repaired weldment should reveal comparative characteristics such as wear resistance, toughness and hardness to base metal. In the present study, a novel functionally graded material have been introduced to obtain enhanced wear resistance and hardness at surface as well as improved fracture toughness at fusion line of repaired weldments.     Abstract
    In this research, the welding characteristics of a new UHSLA steel, 35NiCrMoV123, have been studied in two general conditions (annealed and quench-tempered). Carbon equivalent value of 35NiCrMoV123 steel is near 0.9 which classifies it as a "very difficult to weld" steel. The effects of welding heat treatment cycle (preheat, interpass, and postheat) on metallurgical and mechanical properties of weldments have been investigated by tensile, impact toughness, and hardness tests, as well as optical microscopy observations.     Abstract
    In this study, the effects of CeO2 nanoparticle addition on tensile strength and formation of interfacial intermetallic compound layer for lead-free Sn-3.5Ag-0.7Cu solder joint were investigated. The results showed that the thickness of intermetallic layer was decreased with increasing weight percentages of CeO2 reinforcements, and the growth of the intermetallic layer was remarkably suppressed during isothermal aging at 150 C. It was also found that the tensile strength of the solder joint gradually increased with the addition of CeO2 particles, reached to the maximum value at 0.5 wt% CeO2 and then decreased drastically with further increase in CeO2 content.     Laminar forced convection flow through a channel partially filled with a porous material was numerically studied in this thesis. The Navier-Stokes and Brinkman-Forchheimer equations were used to model the fluid flow in the free and porous regions, respectively. Coupling of the pressure and velocity fields was resolved using the SIMPLEC algorithm. The local thermal equilibrium was adopted in the energy equation.
