Evaluating Overconfidence in Tehran Trade Market

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Saberi, Ghazal (Author) ; Zamani, Shiva (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Behavioral finance researchers have introduced behavioral biases, derived from psychology, to financial models in order to make them more realistic and to increase their explanatory power. One of the best known of these biases, considered in behavioral finance literature, is overconfidence, which means investors overestimate their own knowledge and ability to evaluate securities. Several theoretical models have studied the effects of this bias on financial markets and many empirical models have examined their assumptions, looking for whether investors are overconfident or not. Explained by these models, price overreaction to private information arrival and underreaction to public signal, is...

Scaling of clusters and winding-angle statistics of isoheight lines in two-dimensional Kardar-Parisi-Zhang surfaces

    , Article Physical Review E - Statistical, Nonlinear, and Soft Matter Physics ; Volume 79, Issue 3 , 2009 ; 15393755 (ISSN) Saberi, A.A ; Rouhani, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    2009
    Abstract
We investigate the statistics of isoheight lines of (2+1) -dimensional Kardar-Parisi-Zhang model at different level sets around the mean height in the saturation regime. We find that the exponent describing the distribution of the height-cluster size behaves differently for level cuts above and below the mean height, while the fractal dimensions of the height-clusters and their perimeters remain unchanged. The statistics of the winding angle confirms the previous observation that these contour lines are in the same universality class as self-avoiding random walks. © 2009 The American Physical Society

Study of the Shear Stress Effect on the Behavior of Collapsible Soils and Introducing an Innovative Consecutive Model: “Three linear Stages” to Predict Behavior of Gorgan Loess

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Saberi, Saeed (Author) ; Haeri, Mohsen (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In all five continents, existence of collapsible soils such as Loess has been reported. These kinds of soils have mutual properties such as open structure, high void ratio and low dry density. Collapsible soils are always at risk of experiencing significant reduction in volume due to increasing water content or degree of saturation. Hence, this kind of soil can lead to serious problems including reduce of load bearing capacity, excessive deformation and failure of foundations.Collapsible soils exist in several regions of Iran. Consequently, researching their properties is a key point of geotechnical studies in our country. Hence, in past 10 years, several studies have been conducted by...

Design and Fabrication of Polymeric Scaffold by 3D Bioprinter for Skull Bone Tissue Engineering

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Saberi, Fatemeh (Author) ; Mashayekhan, Shohreh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Cranioplasty is a surgical procedure for repairing skull defects. This surgery will protect the brain tissue, reduce pain in the lesion site and reduce the psychological burden on the patient. Cranioplasty implants should have distinct characteristics, i.e., high strength for protecting the brain, full coverage of skull defects, resistance to infection, non-expansion with heat, and reasonable price. Titanium implants, bone allografts, hydroxyapatite, and methyl methacrylate are commonly used in this surgery. However, these materials have many disadvantages that limit their use. As a result, biodegradable material and 3D printing technology are the next steps for designing scaffolds according...

    Abstract
In the first part, preparation of different kinds of polypyrrole/carbon composites and their application for drug analysis are described. In the first work, A very sensitive electrochemical sensor constructed from a glassy carbon electrode modified with a layer-by-layer MWCNT/doped overoxidized polypyrrole (oppy/MWCNT /GCE) was used for the determination of acetaminophen (AC) in the presence of codeine and ascorbic acid (AA). In comparison to the bare glassy carbon electrode, a considerable shift in the peak potential together with an increase in the peak current was observed for AC on the surface of oppy/MWCNT/GCE, which can be related to the enlarged microscopic surface area of the...

Highly sensitive voltammetric determination of lamotrigine at highly oriented pyrolytic graphite electrode

    , Article Bioelectrochemistry ; Volume 84 , 2012 , Pages 38-43 ; 15675394 (ISSN) Saberi, R. S ; Shahrokhian, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
The electrochemical behavior of lamotrigine (LMT) at the pyrolytic graphite electrode (PGE) is investigated in detail by the means of cyclic voltammetry. During the electrochemical reduction of LMT, an irreversible cathodic peak appeared. Cyclic voltammetric studies indicated that the reduction process has an irreversible and adsorption-like behavior. The observed reduction peak is attributed to a two-electron process referring to the reduction of azo group. The electrode showed an excellent electrochemical activity toward the electro-reduction of LMT, leading to a significant improvement in sensitivity as compared to the glassy carbon electrode. The results of electrochemical impedance...

    2010
    Abstract
A flexible meta modelling approach is presented to predictive control of a drying process using Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS), Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and Partial Least Squares (PLS) analysis. In the proposed approach, the PLS analysis is used to pre-process actual data and to provide the necessary background to apply ANN and ANFIS approaches. A reasonable section of this study is assigned to the modelling with aim at predicting the granule particle size and executing by ANFIS and ANN. ANN hold the promise of being capable of producing non-linear models, being able to work under noise conditions and being fault tolerant to the loss of neurons or connections. Also, the...

Three-dimensional Ising model, percolation theory and conformal invariance

    , Article EPL ; Volume 92, Issue 6 , 2010 ; 02955075 (ISSN) Saberi, A. A ; Dashti Naserabadi, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
The fractal structure and scaling properties of a 2d slice of the 3d Ising model is studied using Monte Carlo techniques. The percolation transition of geometric spin (GS) clusters is found to occur at the Curie point, reflecting the critical behavior of the 3d model. The fractal dimension and the winding angle statistics of the perimeter and external perimeter of the geometric spin clusters at the critical point suggest that, if conformally invariant in the scaling limit, they can be described by the theory of Schramm-Löwner evolution (SLE κ) with diffusivity of κ=5 and 16/5, respectively, putting them in the same universality class as the interfaces in 2d tricritical Ising model. It is...

Room Layout Estimation and Perception through Cross-task Consistency and Knowledge Fusion

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Saberi, Ali (Author) ; Bagheri Shouraki, Saeed (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Wall detection, as a part of scene understanding and indoor 3D modeling, can be used in robotic, architecture, and augmented reality. In robotic, scene analysis and understanding is knows as one of the main steps in robot navigation and simultaneous localization and mapping and walls need to be detected to form a 3D map of indoor environment. Ceiling and floor are also important elements of an indoor environment, therefore we can see our problem as a room layout estimation if we consider ceiling and floor. Using a deep learning structure, we estimate room layout in a semantic segmentation manner. Our approach is real-time. Our proposed method uses a deep fully-convolutional network, layout...

A new protocol for asymmetric communication channels: Reaching the lower bounds

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 8, Issue 4 , 2001 , Pages 297-302 ; 10263098 (ISSN) Ghazizadeh, S ; Ghodsi, M ; Saberi, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Sharif University of Technology  2001
    Abstract
In this paper, the problem of sending n-bit of data from a client to a server using an asymmetric communication channel is discussed where the line bandwidth from server to client is much higher than that of client to server. The goal is to provide a protocol for this problem so that the average number of actual bits sent by client to server becomes as low as possible. Assuming that data is drawn from an arbitrary distribution D, the average number of bits sent by client to server cannot be less than H(D), where H(D) is the binary entropy of D. This problem was first considered by Adler and Maggs [1]. They assumed that the distribution of D is known only by the server and introduced a...

    Abstract
A promising electrochemical sensor was developed based on a layer by layer process by electro-polymerization of pyrrole in the presence of new coccine (NC) as dopant anion on the surface of the multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) pre-coated glassy carbon electrode (GCE). The modified electrode was used as a new and sensitive electrochemical sensor for voltammetric determination of sumatriptan (SUM). The electrochemical behavior of SUM was investigated on the surface of the modified electrode using linear sweep voltammetry (LSV). The results showed a remarkable increase (∼12 times) in the anodic peak current of SUM in comparison to the bare GCE. The effect of experimental variables such...

    Abstract
In this work, an electrochemical DNA biosensor, based on a dual signal amplified strategy by employing a polyaniline film and gold nanoparticles as a sensor platform and enzyme-linked as a label, for sensitive detection is presented. Firstly, polyaniline film and gold nanoparticles were progressively grown on graphite screen-printed electrode surface via electropolymerization and electrochemical deposition, respectively. The sensor was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), cyclic voltammetry and impedance measurements. The polyaniline-gold nanocomposite modified electrodes were firstly modified with a mixed monolayer of a 17-mer thiol-tethered DNA probe and a spacer thiol,...

Application of glassy carbon electrode modified with a bilayer of multiwalled carbon nanotube and polypyrrole doped with Nitrazine Yellow for voltammetric determination of naltrexone

    , Article Electroanalysis ; Volume 23, Issue 12 , NOV , 2011 , Pages 2925-2934 ; 10400397 (ISSN) Shahrokhian, S ; Kamalzadeh, Z ; Saberi, R. S ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
A new sensitive electrochemical sensor was fabricated based on a layer by layer process. In this process the glassy carbon electrode (GCE) is first coated by a thin film of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). In the next step, the electropolymerization of pyrrole in the presence of Nitrazine Yellow (NY) as a dopant anion is performed on the surface of the MWCNTs precoated electrode. The electrochemical response characteristics of the modified electrode toward naltrexone (NTX) were studied by means of linear sweep voltammetry (LSV). A remarkable increase (~19 times) was observed in the anodic peak current of NTX on the surface of the modified electrode relative to the bare GCE. The effects...

Classification of (2+1 ) -dimensional growing surfaces using Schramm-Loewner evolution

    , Article Physical Review E - Statistical, Nonlinear, and Soft Matter Physics ; Volume 82, Issue 2 , August , 2010 ; 15393755 (ISSN) Saberi, A. A ; Dashti Naserabadi, H ; Rouhani, S ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Statistical behavior and scaling properties of isoheight lines in three different saturated two-dimensional grown surfaces with controversial universality classes are investigated using ideas from Schramm-Loewner evolution (SLEκ). We present some evidence that the isoheight lines in the ballistic deposition (BD), Eden and restricted solid-on-solid (RSOS) models have conformally invariant properties all in the same universality class as the self-avoiding random walk (SAW), equivalently SLE8/3. This leads to the conclusion that all these discrete growth models fall into the same universality class as the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) equation in two dimensions

    Abstract
This paper presents a hybrid adaptive network based fuzzy inference system (ANFIS), computer simulation and time series algorithm to estimate and predict electricity consumption estimation. The difficulty with electricity consumption estimation modeling approach such as time series is the reason for proposing the hybrid approach of this study. The algorithm is ideal for uncertain, ambiguous and complex estimation and forecasting. Computer simulation is developed to generate random variables for monthly electricity consumption. Various structures of ANFIS are examined and the preferred model is selected for estimation by the proposed algorithm. Finally, the preferred ANFIS and time series...

Synthesis of Novel Heterocycle Spiroindoline-2-thion, Spirodihydropyridine, Pyrrolopyrimidine and Furocoumarin Compounds and Using New Functionalized Magnetic and Mesoporous Nano Catalyst for Organic Transformations

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Saberi Hosseinabad, Vahid (Author) ; Matloubi Moghaddam, Firouz (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In the first section of the present thesis, a number of novel heterocycles were prepared; they include spirodihydropyridine, spiroindoline-2-thion, and pyrrolopyrimidines. The major advantages of the current investigation encompass high yields, short reaction times, mild reaction conditions and feasibility and low-cost materials. In the second section of this thesis, heterogeneous catalysts based on magnetic nanoparticles coated with organosilanes were synthesized. These catalysts were synthesized by hydrolysis of tetraethyl organosilanes and other organosilicons such as 3-aminopropyl triethoxy silane. The synthesized scaffolds were used to stabilize precious metals as Pd and Cu. The...

Conformal curves on the WO3 surface

    , Article Physical Review Letters ; Volume 100, Issue 4 , 2008 ; 00319007 (ISSN) Saberi, A. A ; Rajabpour, M. A ; Rouhani, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    2008
    Abstract
We have studied the isoheight lines on the WO3 surface as a physical candidate for conformally invariant curves. We have shown that these lines are conformally invariant with the same statistics of domain walls in the critical Ising model. They belong to the family of conformal invariant curves called Schramm-Loewner evolution (or SLEκ), with diffusivity of κ∼3. This can be regarded as the first experimental observation of SLE curves. We have also argued that Ballistic Deposition (BD) can serve as a growth model giving rise to contours with similar statistics at large scales. © 2008 The American Physical Society

    Some aspects of c = -2 theory

    , Article Fortschritte der Physik ; Volume 55, Issue 11-12 , 2007 , Pages 1289-1308 ; 00158208 (ISSN) Rajabpour, M. A ; Rouhani, S ; Saberi, A. A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
We investigate some aspects of the c = -2 logarithmic conformal field theory (LCFT). At first, we calculate some correlators of logarithmic conformal fields which have third order singular OPE with the energymomentum tensor. Then, we argue about the fields in the c = -2 model which are associated with this kind of more general logarithmic primary fields. We go on to find fermionic representations for all the fields in the extended Kac table, in particular the untwisted sector. Moreover, we calculate the various OPEs of the fields, especially for the logarithmic energy-momentum tensor and by using these OPEs we find the exact finite transformation of this field. We briefly discuss about the...

    Abstract
In this study, a conceptual framework is postulated to mathematically evaluate and ascertain the hypothesised relationship that perceived value and interactivity has with customer dissatisfaction issues. Then, the relationship between customer satisfaction issues and loyalty and customer acquisition, will be tested to enhance customer satisfaction and loyalty. For the qualitative part of the research, an interview survey was conducted of 40 employees at the Fremantle port of Western Australia and the collected data was analysed using NVivo. In the second data collection phase, a survey questionnaire was distributed to 60 port customers. Using data envelopment analysis (DEA), the important...
