    , Article IET Image Processing ; Volume 11, Issue 7 , 2017 , Pages 475-482 ; 17519659 (ISSN) Sadri, A. R ; Azarianpour, S ; Zekri, M ; Emre Celebi, M ; Sadri, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    2017
    Abstract
A new computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) system for detecting malignant melanoma from dermoscopy images based on a fixed grid wavelet network (FGWN) is proposed. This novel approach is unique in at least three ways: (i) the FGWN is a fixed WN which does not require gradient-type algorithms for its construction, (ii) the construction of FGWN is based on a new regressor selection technique: D-optimality orthogonal matching pursuit (DOOMP), and (iii) the entire CAD system relies on the proposed FGWN. These characteristics enhance the integrity and reliability of the results obtained from different stages of automatic melanoma diagnosis. The DOOMP algorithm optimises the network model approximation...

A Survey on Some Modern Approaches to Quantum Thermodynamics

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sadri, Keyvan (Author) ; Shafiee, Afshin (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The relationship between quantum theory and thermodynamics has gained so much attention in recent years. Thermodynamics is indeed a phenomenological science and its theoretical foundations are not clear as well. In the nineteenth century, Boltzmann tried to establish a connection between concepts of thermodynamics and classical mechanics (as a consistent theoretical domain). With development of quantum mechanics in twentieth century, the possibility of analyzing and formulating of the multi-particle systems based on quantum formalism increased. Quantum approach to thermodynamic phenomena has been studied in various ways. Here basic questions are, e.g. how to define Thermodynamic entities...

Operation Analysis of an Open Cycle Thermoacoustic Refrigerator with Mean Flow

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sadri, Maryam (Author) ; Ghorbanian, Kaveh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, flow-through (or open cycle), standing wave thermoacoustic refrigerator is investigated. The system has the characteristics that the working fluid travels through the system in an oscillatory mode with a mean flow. This type of thermoacoustic refrigerator enables the working fluid to reach the desired cold temperature without passing through the usually required cold heat exchanger. Consequently, the cold heat exchanger subsystem becomes redundant and the entire system becomes less complex and lower in fabrication costs. In this research, while the hot and cold temperatures are fixed, a parametric study is performed to determine the alteration in performance due to the...

Design & Prototyping of a Reflective Optical Hybrid Incremental-Absolute Encoder Based on Compact Disc Technology

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sadri, Sobhan (Author) ; Vossoughi, Gholamreza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The reflective optical rotary encoders are used greatly in automation systems for speed and position measurements. Their approach of reading code as pulses which results in position and speed information is very similar to what a CD-ROM driver performs to read the saved data as pits and lands on the compact disc data layer. Moreover, the micron size of pits and lands in compact disc promise a high-resolution, and low cost rotary encoder based on CD-ROM technology. In this thesis, two concepts of length coding and hybrid incremental-absolute coded discs are proposed. To verify the implementation of these concepts, the rotary encoder set based on CD-ROM technology is designed and tested. It...

    Abstract
According to a well-known approach in quantum thermodynamics, the characteristics of a system in a process can be estimated by calculating work in the process. Here, we are going to show that this approach cannot provide with us a clear depiction of the second law of thermodynamics in some specific (but simple) processes

    Abstract
The main goal of this study is to assess the application of high-order compact finite-difference schemes for the solution of the Euler equations in conjunction with the compressible vorticity confinement method on both uniform Cartesian and curvilinear grids. Here, the spatial discretization of the governing equations is performed by the fourth-order compact finite-difference scheme and the temporal term is discretized by the fourth-order Runge-Kutta method. To stabilize the numerical solution, appropriate dissipation terms are applied and a detail assessment is performed to study the effects of the values of confinement and dissipation coefficients on the solution to reasonably preserve the...

    Abstract
In this work, the capability and performance of the vorticity confinement (VC) implemented in a high-order accurate flow solver in predicting two-dimensional (2D) compressible mixing layer flows on coarse grids are investigated. Here, the system of governing equations with incorporation of the VC in the formulation is numerically solved by the fourth-order compact finite difference scheme. To stabilize the numerical solution, a low-pass high-order filter is applied, and the nonreflective boundary conditions are used at the farfield and outflow boundaries to minimize the reflections. At first, the numerical results without applying the VC are validated by available direct numerical...

    Abstract
Numerous experiments were conducted on the section of a 660 kw wind turbine blade in a subsonic wind tunnel. The selected airfoil was tested with a clean and distributed contamination roughness surface, with a high and low tunnel turbulence intensity. Surface contamination was simulated by applying 0.5 mm height roughness over the entire upper surface of the airfoil. The surface pressure distribution is measured under a steady and unsteady condition, at three Reynolds numbers; 0.43, 0.85, and 1.3 million, and over a range of angles of attack, AOA=7°-19°. Unsteady data were acquired by both pitch and plunge-type oscillation of the model about its quarter chord at a reduced frequency of 0.07....

Accessible maps in a group of classical or quantum channels

    , Article Open Systems and Information Dynamics ; Volume 29, Issue 1 , 2022 ; 12301612 (ISSN) Sadri, K ; Shahbeigi, F ; Puchała, Z ; Zyczkowski, K ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
We study the problem of accessibility in a set of classical and quantum channels admitting a group structure. Group properties of the set of channels, and the structure of the closure of the analyzed group G plays a pivotal role in this regard. The set of all convex combinations of the group elements contains a subset of channels that are accessible by a dynamical semigroup. We demonstrate that accessible channels are determined by probability vectors of weights of a convex combination of the group elements, which depend neither on the dimension of the space on which the channels act, nor on the specific representation of the group. Investigating geometric properties of the set A of...

    Abstract
In this paper we propose a new automatic method for discriminating original and tampered images based on 'JPEG ghost detection' method, which is a subset of format-based image forensics approaches. The inconsistency of quality factors indicates that the photo is a composite one created from at least two different cameras and therefore it is a manipulated photo. Our classification algorithm first extracts the ghost border. Then the image is classified as original or tampered groups by thresholding a distance in feature space. © 2016 IEEE

Coke formation possibility during production of reducing gas in large scale direct reduction plant

    , Article Ironmaking and Steelmaking ; Volume 34, Issue 2 , 2007 , Pages 115-123 ; 03019233 (ISSN) Sadri, M ; Vakhshouri, K ; Hashemi, M. M. Y. M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
For the production of synthesis gas utilised in Midrex direct reduction plants, catalytic steam/CO2 hydrocarbon reforming in tubular reformer is the major process. Owing to the high heat input through the Midrex reformer tube wall, the endothermic nature of reforming reactions, low mass velocity of feed gas and large tube diameter, the catalyst bed is exposed to considerable axial and radial temperature gradients. These radial concentration and temperature gradients may create local areas with potential for carbon formation. To investigate this phenomenon, a rigorous two-dimensional model is developed for simulating the operation of a Midrex reformer which applies a dual catalyst loading...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sadri, Vahid (Author) ; Soltani, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor) ; Ghorbanian, Kaveh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The delta wing has proven to be very useful for the study and understanding of the basic features of separation-induced vortex flows since many aspects of these vortex flows can be generated with this simple shape. A phenomenon of special importance to vortical flows is vortex breakdown. Vortex breakdown remains an important and complicated phenomenon that can have negative or positive effects. The delta wing leading edge vortex is emphases in many experiments. Most of these experiments are focused on the delta wing only.In this research, emphasis is on vortex interaction of delta wing-canard-fuselage configuration. A series of low speed wind tunnel tests were carried out to investigate...
