Effects of design parameters and A f temperature on superelastic behaviour of Nitinol stent for application in biliary duct: finite element analysis [electronic resource]

, Article Materials Technology: Advanced Performance Materials ; Vol. 29, No. 2, 2014, 65-75 Nematzadeh, F. (Fardin) ; Sadrnezhaad, K ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
For more than a decade, stent implantation has been strategically used for solving gastrointestinal dilemmas such as biliary stenosis. Predicaments like insufficient radial strength, low twisting ability, inappropriate dynamic behaviour and restenosis are expected to be solved by the introduction of new designs. Superelastic Nitinol stent is an interesting alternative for minimising these tight spots. The application of finite element method to predict metallurgical and geometric behaviour of superelastic Nitinol stents for biliary duct dilatation is supported by conventional crimp tests. Model calculations show that all stents encounter the highest stress in their intersegment curvature....

Effects of Crimping on Mechanical Performance of Nitinol Stent Designed for Femoral Artery: Finite Element Analysis [electronic resource]

, Article Journal of Materials Engineering and Performance ; November 2013, Volume 22, Issue 11, pp 3228-3236 Nematzadeh, F. (Fardin) ; Sadrnezhaad, K ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Nitinol stents are used to minimize improper dynamic behavior, low twistability, and inadequate radial mechanical strength of femoral artery stents. In this study, finite element method is used to investigate the effect of crimping and Austenite finish temperature (A f) of Nitinol on mechanical performance of Z-shaped open-cell femoral stent under crimping conditions. Results show that low A f Nitinol has better mechanical and clinical performance due to small chronic outward force, large radial resistive force, and appropriate superelastic behavior

Impedance analysis of growth and morphology of electropolymerized polypyrrole nanocomposites [electronic resource]

, Article Journal of New Materials for Electrochemical Systems ; 2014, Volume 17, Number 2 Torabi, M. (Morteza) ; Sadrnezhaad, S. K ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Pure polypyrrole (PPy), PPy/Al2O3 and PPy/SiO2 nanocomposites synthesized galvanostatically using different polymerization charges. Electrochemical impedance measurements of pure polypyrrole revealed that the film thickness affected the impedance responses. The characteristic frequencies vs. film thickness that obtained using Cole-Cole plots showed that electrodeposition mechanism changed from 3D to 1D after nuclei overlapping for pure PPy. Analysis of the nanocomposites impedance spectrums revealed no changes during the film growth, i.e. deposition continues 3D even after nuclei overlapping. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) confirmed the impedance results and showed that the morphology of...

Simple SPR-based colorimetric sensor to differentiate Mg2+ and Ca2+ in aqueous solutions

    , Article Spectrochimica Acta - Part A: Molecular and Biomolecular Spectroscopy ; Volume 268 , 2022 ; 13861425 (ISSN) Amirjani, A ; Salehi, K ; Sadrnezhaad, S. K ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B.V  2022
    Abstract
L-tryptophan functionalized AgNPs were successfully fabricated using a one-pot synthesis method and assessed as a colorimetric probe for rapid and accurate determination of Mg2+ ions. The developed sensor showed a selective response towards Mg2+ with no interference from Ca2+ in the wide concentration range of 1–200 µM. The sensor's response was optimized in the pH range of 9–10, which can be attributed to the protonation of amine groups and their interaction with Mg2+ ions. The stability and selectivity of the sensor were examined in different salt (NaCl) and other metal ions, respectively. The L-tryptophan-AgNPs sensor detected Mg2+ with the limit of detection of 3 µM, which is way lower...

    Abstract
Porous NiTi shape memory alloy (SMA) was fabricated by sintering of compressed constituent elements pre-mixed with NaCl or urea spacer holders. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) was used to determine the SMA transformation temperatures. Controllable void geometry helping osteoblast proliferation and bone cell growth was gained by addition of the spacers. At r S = 0.7, percentage of the open pores reached 52% while at r S = 1.43, interconnected pores with 200 to 500 μm diameter were...

    Abstract
Ordered perpendicular TiO2 nanotubes (TNT) with 405 to 952 nm length and 60 to 90 nm diameter were grown via 40 to 120 min anodization of Ti6Al4V flat substrates. The samples were called TNT-40, -60, -80, -100, and -120. Vancomycin was loaded on the bare and anodized electrodes by separate immersion and electrophoretic (EP) deposition procedures. EP loading resulted in storage capacity of 5221.86 μg cm-2 for TNT-80 which was much higher than 1036.75 μg cm-2 of immersed sample. Drug release comprised of three stages: (i) burst release (78% for the bare, and 23% for the TNT-80 sample), (ii) gradual transport (21% for the bare, and 64% for the TNT-80 sample), and (iii) equilibrium. Transfer...

Milling under Ar for different times (1, 2, 3, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 h) and sintering at 1500, 1600 and 1700 °C for 30, 45, 60 and 90 min resulted in increasing of low-energy grain boundaries (LEGBs) and dispersion of TiC and ZrC with a size of ~ 65 nm in the matrix near LEGBs. Morphology and grain size of the products were determined from scanning electron microscope (SEM) images and X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns, almost precisely. Abstract
A novel approach is obtained during the fabrication of NiCoFe-B nanotube arrays via electroless method. Porous anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) templates fabricated by anodization of aluminum foil were sensitized using PdCl 2 solution and immersed into electroless plating baths at room temperature to produce nanotube arrays. Compositional and morphological properties of the nanotube arrays are characterized. Results indicates the formation of end-closed nanotubes with the dimension of 100-130 nm in outside diameter, which is determined by the pore size of the AAO template, and about 15 nm in thickness of tube walls. The possible formation mechanism of end-closed metallic nanotube arrays is...

    Abstract
Zinc exists as smithsonite and hemimorphite in the lead flotation tailings from the Dandi mineral processing plant in north western Iran. In this research, zinc-rich tailings produced in the Dandi plant were characterized mineralogically and a leaching study was carried out to assess the effect of several parameters on the kinetics of zinc dissolution. Parameters studied included: sulfuric acid concentration, reaction time, temperature and slurry density. It was found that leaching is controlled by a single rate-controlling step with an activation energy of 23.5 kJ/mol. To overcome some of the filtration problems associated with polymerization of silicic acid, lime was added as a coagulant....
