Abstract
We study the effect of quantum fluctuations by means of a transverse magnetic field (Γ) on the antiferromagnetic J1-J2 Ising model on the checkerboard lattice, the two dimensional version of the pyrochlore lattice. The zero-temperature phase diagram of the model has been obtained by employing a plaquette operator approach (POA). The plaquette operator formalism bosonizes the model, in which a single boson is associated to each eigenstate of a plaquette and the inter-plaquette interactions define an effective Hamiltonian. The excitations of a plaquette would represent an-harmonic fluctuations of the model, which lead not only to lower the excitation energy compared with a single-spin flip but...

Abstract
We study the zero-Temperature phase diagram of transverse field Ising model on the J 1-J 2 square lattice. In zero magnetic field, the model has a classical Néel phase for J 2/J 1 < 0.5 and an antiferromagnetic collinear phase for J 2/J 1 > 0.5. We incorporate harmonic fluctuations by using linear spin wave theory (LSWT) with single spin flip excitations above a magnetic order background and obtain the phase diagram of the model in this approximation. We find that harmonic quantum fluctuations of LSWT fail to lift the large degeneracy at J 2/J 1 = 0.5 and exhibit some inconsistent regions on the phase diagram. However, we show that anharmonic fluctuations of cluster operator approach (COA)...

Abstract
We study the effect of quantum fluctuations by means of a transverse magnetic field (Γ) on the highly degenerate ground state of antiferromagnetic J1−J2 Ising model on the square lattice, at the limit J2/J1=0.5. We show that harmonic quantum fluctuations based on single spin flips can not lift such degeneracy, however an-harmonic quantum fluctuations based on multi spin cluster flip excitations lift the degeneracy toward a unique ground state with string-valence bond solid (VBS) nature. A cluster operator formalism has been implemented to incorporate an-harmonic quantum fluctuations. We show that cluster-type excitations of the model lead not only to lower the excitation energy compared with...
Ground State Phase Diagram of Two-dimensional Frustrated Ising Model in Transverse Field
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Langari, Abdollah (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this thesis, we study the effect of quantum fluctuations by means of a transverse magnetic field () on the ground state of frustrated antiferromagnetic Ising models on the checkerboard and square lattices with nearest neigbor couplings J1 and next-to-nearest neighbor couplings J2. At zero field, such models have exponentially large degenerate classical ground states at J2 ... J1 for the checkerboard lattice and at J2 = 0:5J1 for the square lattice. Quantum fluctuations can have a major role to lift the degeneracies toward a unique quantum ground states. We consider two types of quantum fluctuations, harmonic ones by using linear spin wave theory (LSWT) with single-spin flip excitations...
Mathematical Modeling and Simulation of Tumor Angiogenesis
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Fotouhi, Morteza (Supervisor)
Abstract
A major medical revolution that is helping us overcome some of the worst diseases, including cancer, is angiogenesis, which is based on the processes our bodies use to develop blood vessels. Most human cancers have acquired six essential capabilities: self-sufficiency in growth signals, insensitivity to growth-inhibitory signals, programmed cell death escape, unlimited replication potential, persistent angiogenesis, and tissue invasion that can induce metastasis. In other words, the defense mechanism that prevents any of these acquired capabilities must be neutralized before the cells become malignant and invasive tumors. In fact, tumors in the non-vascular growth stage can only grow up to...

Abstract
We investigate the ground-state phase diagram of the frustrated transverse-field Ising (TFI) model on the checkerboard lattice (CL), which consists of Néel, collinear, quantum paramagnet, and plaquette-valence bond solid (-VBS) phases. We implement a numerical simulation that is based on the recently developed unconstrained tree tensor network ansatz, which systematically improves the accuracy over the conventional methods as it exploits the internal gauge selections. At the highly frustrated region (J2=J1), we observe a second-order phase transition from the plaquette-VBS state to the paramagnet phase at the critical magnetic-field Γc=0.28 with the associated critical exponents ν=1 and...

Abstract
The nonequilibrium dynamics of two-dimensional Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model, in the presence of staggered chemical potential, is investigated using the notion of dynamical quantum phase transition. We contribute to expanding the systematic understanding of the interrelation between the equilibrium quantum phase transition and the dynamical quantum phase transition (DQPT). Specifically, we find that dynamical quantum phase transition relies on the existence of massless propagating quasiparticles as signaled by their impact on the Loschmidt overlap. These massless excitations are a subset of all gapless modes, which leads to quantum phase transitions. The underlying two-dimensional model reveals...
Flexural-Torsional Buckling Analysis of Thin- walled Composite Beams with Symmetric Layup
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Haddadpour , Hassan (Supervisor)
Abstract
In the present work, the buckling behavior of a composite beam with circular, rectangular and pentagonal cross sections is investigated. The structural model is based on the first order shear deformation theory (FSDT) and incorporates other non-classical effects such as primary and secondary warpings and restrained warping. The linear buckling equations are derived from the non-linear governing equations of motion and their associated boundary conditions and solved using the Galerkin method for a composite beam with the clamped-free end condition and the special layup configuration of Circumferentially Asymmetric Stiffness (CAS) which induces elastic couplings between torsional and flexural...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Bahrampour, Alireza (Supervisor)
Abstract
The concept of entanglement exists in the common area of the quantum optics and quantum information. Quantum optics is the best tools for investigating of this quantum informational phenomenon experimentally. One of the instruments that let us observes experimentally macroscopy entangeled state is Fabry-Perot Cavity. Striking of photons with the mirror of cavity transfer effective mommentom to it, and oscilating of mirror creates new modes: stocks and anti-stocks modes. Studing quantum state of these modes shows the entangling between photon and phonon (oscilating of mirror) modes. We assume that light beam enters the cavity from a semi-transparent mirror. So cavity is the system with...

Abstract
We investigate the ground-state nature of the transverse field Ising model on the J1-J2 square lattice at the highly frustrated point J2/J1=0.5. At zero field, the model has an exponentially large degenerate classical ground state, which can be affected by quantum fluctuations for nonzero field toward a unique quantum ground state. We consider two types of quantum fluctuations, harmonic ones by using linear spin-wave theory (LSWT) with single-spin-flip excitations above a long-range magnetically ordered background and anharmonic fluctuations, by employing a cluster-operator approach (COA) with multispin cluster-type fluctuations above a nonmagnetic cluster-ordered background. Our findings...

Abstract
In this study, novel chitosan/poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)/SiO2 nanocomposite ENMs were prepared to improve the mechanical strength and permeation properties of ENMs. The effect of various concentrations of SiO2 in the spinning solution (0, 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 wt %) on the morphology, fiber diameter, porosity, thermomechanical properties, and permeability of the synthesized membranes was investigated. The prepared affinity membranes were utilized for the removal of dye from colored wastewater. Incorporating SiO2, as a reinforcing agent, was found to increase the compaction resistance of the nanocomposite ENMs. With the addition of 0.5 wt % of SiO2, the Young's modulus of the prepared membranes...

Abstract
Surface phenomena and dynamic interfacial properties plays a significant role in multiphase gas-liquid & liquid-liquid processes applied in different industrial applications. However, current laboratory equipment and represented methods for dynamic and unsteady state condition caused by motivation of interface of two phases (like rising bubble), in purpose of qualitative investigation of interphase properties are not satisfying enough. Also, common modeling methods are represented with lots of modified assumptions which are not validated properly with experimental results. In current thesis, with development of laboratory tools and applying the “rising bubble method” for investigating the...
Global Control of Hybrid Microgrids Using MIMO Control
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Mokhtari, Hossein (Supervisor)
Abstract
Given the growing advantage of exploiting renewable energy resources over fossil fuels and using distributed generation systems, microgrids seem to be the best solution for reaching the energy-efficient world of the future. Hybrid microgrids are the best options among all other types of microgrids because they make it possible to use AC and DC sources and loads together and at the same time. Since connecting AC and DC sections of a hybrid microgrid leads to the interaction between them, proper control of interlinking converter(s) is crucial for the reliable and stable operation of the entire microgrid. In this study, small signal model of a hybrid AC/DC microgrid consisting of static and...

Abstract
The present study has been performed for better understanding about the dynamic behavior of fluid interfaces in presence of surfactants, nanoparticles and their interactions in gas-liquid dispersion systems. One of the main purposes of this work is to investigate the influence of surface modified nanoparticles on the dynamic behavior of gas-liquid interfaces. For this purpose, the rising bubble experiment was used as one of the most conventional procedures. Local velocities of bubbles rising in nanoparticle solutions were determined experimentally. Influences of silica nanoparticles which were modified via three approaches were investigated in these experiments. Heat treatment was applied to...

Abstract
Novel montmorillonite (Mt) chitosan/poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) nanocomposite electrospun nanofibrous membranes (ENM) were prepared and utilized for the treatment of colored wastewater. The Mt. with different mass percentages (0, 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 mass%) was added to the membrane structure, and its effect on morphology, pore size, porosity, mechanical strength, and permeation properties of ENM were investigated. The fabricated membranes were used as affinity membranes for dye removal with ultrafast permeating adsorption. The results showed that incorporating Mt. as a reinforcing agent improved the nanocomposite ENM resistance to compaction. Young's modulus for the prepared membranes increased...

Abstract
Application of organic−inorganic nanocomposite membranes for water treatment is exceptionally growing owing to their tunable functionalities in addition to their enhanced permeation and antifouling propensity. In the present work, novel nanocomposite polyethersulfone (PES) membrane was synthesized using antimony-doped tin oxide (ATO) nanoparticles (NPs) via phase separation technique. It was found that the modified PES-ATO nanocomposite membranes exhibited significantly higher fouling resistance and larger permeate flux recovery ratio when tested with oil sands produced water than unmodified PES membranes. Furthermore, the PES-ATO membranes provided 40% more organic matter removal compared...
Investigation of the Liquid Viscosity Effect on the Rising Bubble Motion (Effect of Ethylene Glycol Concentration on Terminal Velocity)
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Bastani, Dariush (Supervisor) ; Lotfi, Marzieh (Co-Advisor)
Abstract
Surface phenomena is one of the fundamental branches of science that has many applications in industries related to multiphase processes. One of the most important issues of this knowledge is inter-phase transport phenomena in contacting gas - liquid and liquid – liquid systems. Multiphase systems generally include dispersions such that in many cases are associated with the relative motion between the continuous and dispersed phase. One of the most widely used inter-phase flow systems is dispersion of gas bubbles in the bulk of liquid. The overall efficiency of these systems is often determined by the characteristics of the gas phase. In order to understand the dynamic behavior of such...
Theoretical Investigation of Quantum Optical Amplifiers in Quantum Communications
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Bahrampour, Alireza (Supervisor) ; Bathaee, Marzieh Sadat (Co-Supervisor)
Abstract
Signal transmission of information on noiseless and lossy channels is an important issue in data transmission. Using the amplifier in the transmission channels is a good solution to help send information on longer channels. In classical communication, information can be coded in the amplitude or phase of the field and an amplifier is responsible for amplifying these parameters. If we consider the conditions ideal and ignore electrical noises, Classical mechanics does not impose any restrictions on the amplification of arbitrary classical signals. Instead, in quantum telecommunications the information encoded on the quadrature of the electromagnetic field are mounted on quantum states, such...
Examining the Impact of Key Factors on Esteghlal Tehran Fans' Intention to Attend Matches: A Social Identity Theory Perspective
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Alavi, Babak (Supervisor) ; Saghafian, Marzieh (Supervisor)
Abstract
This study investigated the relationships between team identification and attendance intention in Iranian football matches, specifically examining the impact of constraints on this relationship. The research focused on Esteghlal Football Club, one of Iran's most popular teams, which faces a paradox of having a large fan base (35-40 million supporters) but relatively low stadium attendance rates (below 50% capacity). The study employed a mixed online sampling method (convenience and snowball) with 182 Esteghlal fans who had attended at least one stadium match. Data was collected using three validated questionnaires: team identification (18 items, 6 dimensions), attendance intention (4 items,...
