Characterization of Warm Mix Asphalt Containing Reclaimed Asphalt Binders
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Tabatabaei, Nader (Supervisor)
Abstract
Utilization of RAP in HMA reduces the initial costs, conserves natural sources and avoids disposal problems. Aged binder from RAP will have some effects on resultant binder. To date, solvent extraction and recovery is the only method that physically separates the RAP binder from the RAP aggregate for characterization. Time consuming for recovery, altering the physical properties of the recovered asphalt binder like binder hardening and the possibility that Asphalt binder is not completely extracted from the aggregate are the weak points of this method. Addressing the need for non-solvent based RAP binder characterization; procedures for low temperature characterization of RAP binder...
Evaluating the effects of Sasobit on characterization and workability of asphalt mixes containing reclaimed asphalt binders
, Article Asphalt Pavements - Proceedings of the International Conference on Asphalt Pavements, ISAP 2014 ; Vol. 2, issue , 2014 , p. 1241-1252 ; Vahabi, A ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
Use of Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement in HMA1 is beneficial by reduction of initial costs. But the higher stiffness of aged binder may lead to workability issues in the field, therefore use of large percentages of RAP2 impacts the HMA properties. Utilizing Sasobit is a solution to use more RAP at a relatively lower temperature in HMA mixes. This study investigates the effects of 2 percent Sasobit on the reduction of compaction temperature by measuring low shear viscosity and workability of mixtures containing RAP binder. Low and intermediate temperature properties of RAP binder using mix designs were compared to properties of artificially aged binders. Virgin binder was aged in PAV to make...
The Insider Threat: Analyzing and Modeling
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Hendesi, Faramarz (Supervisor)
Abstract
Nowadays, most of businesses are becoming computer-based. This trend causes the organizations to become more vulnerable to internal and external threats. Internal threats are done through insiders. Insiders unlike outsiders have capabilities which aid them to easily carry out their illicit activities. Unfortunately, most of research in computer security has focused on the outsider threats, whereas the most damaging is the result of insiders’ illicit activities. This dissertation addresses three primary necessities of the research in the area of insider threat: a consistent definition of insider threat, a classification of types of insider threats, and a classification of vulnerabilities which...
An Intelligent Routing Protocol for Delay Tolerant Networks Using Genetic Algorithm
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Hendessi, Faramarz (Supervisor)
Abstract
Due to the dynamic topology of vehicular ad hoc networks, routing of packets in these networks faces a lot of difficulties. The situation will become more challenging when we have to deal with Delay Tolerant Networks (DTN) which are also sparse and partitioned and we need to use some vehicles to store the packets and carry them from one partition to another. Despite all these difficulties, by looking through movements of vehicles in an urban environment, we can find out that the topology of the network does not change in a pure random way and we can bring the traffic models of streets into account for having better routing performance. In this thesis, we proposed an intelligent routing...
Synthesis of Nano Ceramic Powders for Drug Delivery and It’s Release
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Nemati, Ali (Supervisor) ; Dobakhti, Faramarz (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this project, Fe3O4 nanoparticles were synthesized and coated with different polymeric materials for drug delivery application. For this purpose, water dispersible oleic acid(OA)- pluronic block copolymer coated magnetite iron oxide nanoparticles were synthesized that can be loaded with proper doses of cephalexin. Our data indicated that formulation of iron oxide nanoparticles was developed by optimizing the amount of oleic acid required to coat iron oxide nanoparticles and then by optimizing the amount of pluronic required to form an aqueous dispersion of oleic acid coated nanoparticles. Synthesis of magnetite nanoparticles was done by the addition of a strong base (NH4OH) to ferrous...

Abstract
Fire is one of the most important events in nuclear power plants which has a large share of total core damage frequency. For example, the core damage frequency in Bushehr nuclear power plant from fire accidents is 6.1E-6/ year which is equivalent to about 63 percent of core damage frequency from all internal accidents. However, due to the unavoidable presence of flammable materials, e.g. Electrical equipment, cables, gas, flammable liquids, …), it is impossible to prevent fires in these plants . Fire at nuclear power plants may be caused directly or indirectly by one or more initiating events, which the following accidents in turn would threaten the safety of the plant. In this project,...
Probabilistic Safety Assessment of IR-360 for Station BlackOut Accident (SBO) and Determination of the Frequency of Occurrence
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ghofrani, Mohammad Bagher (Supervisor) ; Yousefpour, Faramarz (Supervisor) ; Karimi, Kave (Co-Advisor)
Abstract
Station Blackout (SBO) involves Loss of Offsite Power (LOOP) concurrent with failure of the onsiteemergency ac power system. Although SBO is a beyond designbasis accident, in recent years this accident attracts a lot of attention. Fukushima nuclear accident which was initiated by earthquake followedby tsunami led to a SBO accident. In this thesis, Probabilistic Safety Assessment (PSA) is applied to analyze SBO in IR-360 nuclear power plant and to compute its frequency. Meanwhile, weak points of the plant are identified in order to minimize the SBOprobability of occurrence. Fault tree method is used to evaluate emergency power system and offsite power system reliabilities. Common Cause...
Solvent effects on kinetics of an heteroatomic nucleophilic substitution reaction in ionic liquid and molecular solvents mixtures
, Article Russian Journal of Physical Chemistry A ; Volume 87, Issue 12 , December , 2013 , pp 1969-1975 ; 1531-863X ; Pedervand, M. (Mohsen) ; Sadeghzadeh-Darabi, F. (Faramarz) ; Gholami, M. R. (Mohammad Reza) ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
Rate constants, k A, for the aromatic nucleophilic substitution reaction of 2-chloro-3,5-dinitropyridine with aniline were determined in different compositions of 2-propanol mixed with hexane, benzene, and 2-methylpropan-2-ol and 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium ethylsulfate ([Emim][EtSO4]) with dimethyl sulfoxide at 25°C. The obtained rate constants of the reaction in pure solvents are in the following order: 2-methylpropan-2-ol > dimethyl sulfoxide > 2-propanol > hexane > benzene > [Emim][EtSO4]. Molecularmicroscopic solvent parameters corresponding to the selected binary mixtures were utilized to study the kinetics of a nucleophilic substitution reaction in order to investigate and compare the...

Abstract
Photocatalytic reduction of p-nitrochlorobenzene was studied over aluminosilicate-based AgBr and AgBr-TiO2 photocatalysts which were prepared and characterized. The photoreaction was performed in the presence of LiBH4, which is a strong reducing agent, in the solution medium. A new mechanism is proposed for reduction of p-nitrochlorobenzene under photocatalytic conditions. The effect of pH, illumination source, LiBH4 concentration, temperature, catalyst dosage, and alcoholic scavengers was also studied. The results showed that the best efficiency was obtained over Ag/AgBr/TiO2/aluminosilicates at natural pH under UV light. We observed that the reaction yield was affected by changing the...
