I present an in-depth review of the trends and the directions taken by researchers worldwide in optical code-division multiple-access (OCDMA) systems. I highlight those trends and features that I believe are essential to the successful introduction of various OCDMA techniques in communication systems and data networks in the near future. In particular I begin by giving a comprehensive review of the construction of optical orthogonal codes (OOCs). Abstract
Autocorrelation receiver (AcR) is usually used as the general receiver for transmitted reference (TR) communication systems on a quite intuitive basis. In this paper, we apply the principle of statistical invariance to obtain the optimum TR receiver on a decision-theoretic basis, and it is shown that the autocorrelation receiver is optimal only in a special case. Performance of the optimum receiver and the suboptimum AcR for some important modulation schemes is also evaluated. Abstract
In this paper, we study theoretically the generation of high repetition rate short pulses using fiber optical parametric amplification. We show that the pulse shape and duration depend on the signal location relatively to the pump frequency. We demonstrate that in order to get the shortest pulse width, the signal must be located at one of the extremities of the gain spectrum associated with the pump peak power. We derive the analytical expression of the pulse shape in this case and compare it to the exponential gain regime case. Abstract
The High-Performance Light Water Reactor (HPLWR) is the European version of the advance nuclear energy power plant at Supercritical-pressure. A light water reactor at supercritical pressure, being currently under design, is the new generation of nuclear reactors. The aim of this study is to predict the HPLWR neutronic behavior of the axial enrichment profile with an average enrichment of 5 w/o U-235. In this paper, we propose an accurate visible light indoor localization system for a smartphone using the commercial light-emitting diode (LED) panels which are used primarily for lighting. Each of designed lighting panel contains a space-colorcoded identifier, a matrix with a unique pattern of spatially separated colored LEDs, for labeling different positioning cells while the lighting color is kept white by balancing the number of different sets of colored LEDs. Abstract
The Hopfield network is studied from the standpoint of taking it as a computational model in optimizing the fuel management of pressurized water reactors (PWRs). In this paper, the flattening of the neutron flux is considered as the objective function. By this consideration, the power peaking inside the reactor core is also minimized. Regarding the local minimum problem of Hopfield network, the simulated annealing method is applied to improve the Hopfield solution. Abstract
This paper presents a new method to solve the problem of finding the best configuration of fuel assemblies in a pressurized water reactor (PWR) core. Finding the optimum solution requires a huge amount of calculations in classical methods. It has been shown that the application of continuous Hopfield neural network accompanied by simulated annealing method to this problem not only reduces the amount of calculations, but also guarantees finding the best solution. In this study flattening of neutron flux inside the reactor core of Bushehr NPP is considered as the objective function. Despite the huge potential, value predictors have not been used in modern processors. This is partially due to the complex structures associated with such predictors. In this paper we study value predictors and investigate solutions to reduce storage requirements while imposing negligible coverage cost. Our solutions build on the observation that conventional value predictors do not utilize storage efficiently as they allocate too much space for small and frequently appearing values.
