    In this article we present a new scheme to support multirate and multi-quality-of-service transmission in passive optical networks based on a hybrid wavelength-division multiplexing/optical code-division multiplexing scheme. The idea is to use multilength variable-weight optical orthogonal codes as signature sequences of a hybrid WDM/OCDM system. To provide the requested classes of service, the code weight and code length of MLVW-OOCs are designed based on the characteristics of the requested classes of service.     Abstract
    This paper examines the effects of foundation uplift on the dynamic response of steel frames supported by shallow foundations. In order to achieve this goal, the dynamic responses of a number of two-dimensional concentrically braced steel frames with fixed base, flexible base preventing uplift, and flexible base allowing uplift, are compared. The steel frames are modeled by considering material nonlinearities and P-Delta effects, while the soil-foundation system is modeled through the Winkler foundation approach.     In this paper, dynamic resource allocation and multicast routing algorithms are proposed for elastic optical networks (EONs). The proposed algorithms find the shortest path trees by modeling either the amount of free spectrum in each link or the link length as the cost function of routing method. The proposed algorithms are simulated in the dynamic operation scenario over the so called US Backbone topology. Simulation results reveal that by considering the cost function of routing algorithm based on the available spectrum in each link will improve the blocking probability while reduce the spectrum efficiency.     In this paper, we formulate an integer linear programming (ILP) to perform multicast routing and spectrum assignment (MRSA) in elastic optical networks, which serves jointly a set of multicast requests.     Abstract
    In this paper, we propose a novel link-tracing sampling algorithm, based on the concepts from PageRank vectors, to sample from networks with high community structures. Our method has two phases; (1) Sampling the closest nodes to the initial nodes by approximating personalized PageRank vectors and (2) Jumping to a new community by using PageRank vectors and unknown neighbors. Empirical studies on several synthetic and real-world networks show that the proposed method improves the performance of network sampling compared to the popular link-based sampling methods in terms of accuracy and visited communities

    In this paper, we present an energy-efficient manycast routing and spectrum assignment (EEM-RSA) algorithm in elastic optical networks supporting cloud computing applications. The proposed EEM-RSA is adapted for both static and dynamic scenarios. First, an integer linear programing formulation is derived for energy-efficient manycasting and spectrum assignment; then, the corresponding heuristic methods are proposed.     In this paper, we present a detailed analytical approach to obtain the channel capacity of optical space-division multiplexing (SDM) systems. To this aim, the nonlinearity effects of optical fiber are modeled as additive white Gaussian noise (GN) process, and accordingly a closed-form formula is derived for SDM capacity.     In this paper, we present a mathematical model for the idea of using more than one optical phase conjugate (OPC) module for coherent optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (CO-OFDM) systems in long-haul fiber optic channels. The four-wave mixing (FWM) formulation is derived for three different scenarios in which different numbers of OPC modules are used.     Visible light communication (VLC) uses LED lights for simultaneous illumination and data transmission. The throughput of a VLC network is highly dependent on the location of VLC access points (AP). In this paper, we propose a novel optimization framework for approximately optimal VLC AP placement which takes into account the stationary distribution of users for the first time.     In this paper, the problem of routing, modulation level, core, and spectrum assignment (RMCSA) in space-division-multiplexed elastic optical networks (SDM-EONs) is studied. We formulate this problem as a mixed-integer linear programming (MILP), in which dedicated and shared path protection schemes are supported in SDM-EONs with multi-core fibers (MCFs) and the inter-core crosstalk of MCFs is strictly modeled.
