Abstract
In this paper we study and evaluate the performance of a spectral-phase encoded optical CDMA (SPE-OCDMA) system using advanced receiver structures based on second harmonic generation (SHG) effect imposed in a Thick or Thin crystal. This receiver structure is employed as the nonlinear pre-processor prior to the conventional low-speed photodetector. In this paper we study and present an in-depth analysis on the operability and the viability of a typical wireless optical CDMA (OCDMA) local area network. Three receiver structures for OCDMA systems, using optical orthogonal codes (OOC) with minimum auto and cross-correlations as signature sequence, namely, correlation, correlation with hard-limiter, and chip-level detection are studied and proposed for such a network. Abstract
In this paper, the authors analyze conditions under which they can be certain on the intensity addition of a given device, such as tapped-delay lines, used in digital incoherent all-optical communication systems. A general expression for phase-induced intensity noise that is applicable to all types of semiconductor lasers is derived by defining an optical self-SNR expression that can be used to analyze and measure phase-induced intensity noise. In this paper, we study theoretically the generation of high repetition rate short pulses using fiber optical parametric amplification. We show that the pulse shape and duration depend on the signal location relatively to the pump frequency. We demonstrate that in order to get the shortest pulse width, the signal must be located at one of the extremities of the gain spectrum associated with the pump peak power. We derive the analytical expression of the pulse shape in this case and compare it to the exponential gain regime case. Abstract
The effect of NaOH content of electrolyte on the properties of ceramic coatings, produced in silicate solution, was studied. Morphology, chemical analysis, phase composition, and cross-section of the ceramic coatings were investigated by SEM, EDS, XRD, and OM, respectively. The corrosion resistance and corrosion mechanism were also studied using potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy in a 3.5% NaCl solution. To study the surface roughness, a brightness SEM image analysis method was used. This paper describes methods used for determining the characteristic acoustic modes and frequencies of a liquid-propellant rocket-motor combustion chamber and effects of radial baffles on the chamber's acoustic field. A multi-point sensing experimental setup, including stationary and moving sensors, was used to measure characteristic frequencies and mode shapes of a combustion chamber. A novel hybrid approach for modeling and optimization of a hybrid process consisting of fixed-bed adsorption column (FBAC) and dead-end filtration (DEF) for the removal of methylene blue from water was presented. In this article, design of an adaptive control scheme for a class of uncertain single-input single-output systems in strict feedback form via a backstepping technique has been proposed. It is assumed that system output and its derivatives are available. In this paper, an adaptive fuzzy controller, based on backstepping technique, has been proposed for temperature control of a general class of continuous stirred tank reactors (CSTRs). Using the observability concept, an adaptive fuzzy controller using temperature measurement has been designed. In this paper, an adaptive fuzzy temperature controller is proposed for a class of continuous stirred tank reactors (CSTRs) based on input-output feedback linearization. In this paper, two nonlinear observer based controllers for temperature control of a continuous stirred tank reactor in which a special class of parallel exothermic reactions take place are proposed. A reduced order nonlinear observer is constructed to estimate the concentration in the reactor. A novel packet-based photonic label switching router for a multirate all-optical switch using generalized multiprotocol label switching is proposed. The idea is based on using optical code-division multiple access (OCDMA) as multiplexing technique and treating OCDMA codes as labels. The main aim of this study was to improve current efficiency and to obtain thicker coatings via aluminum oxide (Al2O3) addition to the chromium (Cr) (III) bath. Design/methodology/approach ‐ Pure Cr and nanocomposite Cr–Al2O3 coatings were electrodeposited from Cr (III) bath onto cathode copper substrates by conventional method. Dependence of current efficiency to current density, Al2O3 content and particle size were investigated.
