Conditions Derivation of Implementability of Fractional-Order Functions by Passive Electrical Networks

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sarafraz, Mohammad Saeed (Author) ; Tavazoei, Mohammad Saleh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Today, the fractional-order systems are widely used in the system identification and design and implementation of control systems. By production of electrical elements with fractional-order relationship between voltage and current of their terminals, implementation of fractional-order functions with passive elements is possible. Fractional order capacitors are one of these elements. It was shown that necessary and sufficient condition for the implementation of an integer order function by passive elements is positive realness of such a function.
Like systems with integer-order, in this thesis the aim is to find corresponding conditions for implementation of fractional-order functions...

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Sarafraz, Mohammad Saeed (Author) ; Tavazoei, Mohammad Saleh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
A new generation of physical and industrial systems is evolving towards communication and information technology as communication and information technologies progress. Cyber-Physical Systems, or CPSs, are physical systems situated in a cyber environment and use communication and information technology to improve efficiency. A CPS is an integrated synthesis of the principles of "control," "communication," and "computation" from an engineering point of view, attempting to provide a comprehensive framework in which all aspects of these three fields are covered. One of the capabilities of CPSs is the ability to deal with and implement a large scale system. A group of control missions in large...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sarafraz, Siyamak (Author) ; Jamshidi, Saeed (Supervisor) ; Molaei Dehkordi, Asghar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
One of the major problems in directional and extended reach wells is poor hole cleaning. Directional and horizontal drilling is more complex than vertical wells. Ineffective particles transport leads to several undesirable issues during drilling. This thesis analyzed all parameters which have directly affected directional hole cleaning. The thesis is based on an experimental set-up designed in Sharif University. In the experimental work, two types of drilling fluid, Newtonian and Non-Newtonian with numerous rheological parameters, three different flow rate, three various nozzle sizes and three individual RPMs in three distinct inclinations 30°, 60° and 90° were used to simulate. Also, to...

Robust Nonlinear Control of a Jet Tail-sitter UAV in Hovering Flight Phase

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sarafraz, Yasin (Author) ; Saghafi, Fariborz (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, the theory of robust control is applied to design a controller for the longitudinal dynamics of a tail-sitter jet engine unmanned aerial vehicle. The engine thrust deflection is considered as the input controller of the system. The aircraft dynamical model is developed based on the assumption of no aerodynamic loads in low speed flight associated with the hovering condition. The controller is primarily designed using both classical and modern control techniques. Then and synthesis approaches are applied to design the robust controller. The results obtained from different approaches are compared. It is shown that the robust controller techniques are more stable and robust...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mortazavi, Mohammad Ali (Author) ; Saeedi, Mohammad Saeed (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Nowadays environmental issues are of great importance and one of the most paramount issues is the quality of water, because clean water is vital to our existence. Besides different methods for water purification, water quality testing is a useful and needful tool. Traditional methods for determination of water quality parameters are mainly expensive, time consuming and require highly trained staff. In this study, we have described a centrifugal microfluidic platform (Lab- on – a- CD) for simultaneous determination of different physical and chemical parameters including Nitrite, Free Chlorine and pH. All of the processes from sample injection to detection are integrated on this low-cost and...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Nouri, Mohammad Moein (Author) ; Saeedi, Mohammad Saeed (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Nowadays, cancer, which has been mentioned as the disease of the century, is the second leading cause of death throughout the world, and its incidence is constantly increasing. Isolation of circulating tumor cells is one of the most critical steps in diagnosing and controlling cancer progression. Due to the rarity of cancer cells compared to other cells in the blood sample, the isolation process requires optimal and high-precision devices. With the advent of inertial microfluidics, the ability to control the particles movement, the processing of blood samples as quickly and accurately as possible, and the viability of cells with a high percentage, introduced microfluidic systems as a...

Three Dimensional Fluid-structure Interaction Analysis of Air Flow and Inhaled Particle Transport in Human Pulmonary Alveoli

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Monjezi, Mojdeh (Author) ; Saeedi, Mohammad Saeed (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The prediction of deposition efficiency of submicron particles in the pulmonary alveoli has received special attention due to its importance for drug delivery systems, and for assessing air pollutants health risks. In this work, the pulmonary alveoli of a healthy human are idealized by a three dimensional honeycomb like configuration and a fluid-structure interaction analysis is performed to study the normal cyclic breathing hydrodynamics. A viscoelastic model is used for the mechanical behavior of alveolar wall tissue. In contrast to previous works in which the inlet flow rate is predefined, in this model a negative pressure is imposed on the outside surface of the alveolus which causes air...

    Abstract
In this paper, conditions for checking the realizability of fractional-order impedance functions by passive networks composed of a fractional element (either a fractional capacitor or a fractional inductor) and some RLC components are derived. To this end, at first the newly obtained conditions for realizability of fractional-order impedance functions by a passive network composed of a fractional capacitor and some RLC components are extended to include the case that the polynomials involving in the impedance function can have roots on the imaginary axis. Then, the necessary and sufficient conditions are found on a fractional-order impedance function to be realized by a passive network...

    Abstract
This paper deals with the consensus problem in an uncertain multi-agent system whose agents communicate with each other through a weighted undirected (primary) graph. The considered multi-agent system is described by an uncertain state-space model in which the involved matrices belong to some matrix boxes. As the main contribution of the paper, a unified optimization-based framework is proposed for simultaneously reducing the weights of the edges of the primary communication graph (optimizing the network topology) and synthesizing a controller such that the consensus in the considered uncertain multi-agent system is ensured with an adjustable convergence rate. Considering the NP-hardness...

    Abstract
This article deals with solving distributed optimization problems with equality constraints by a class of uncertain nonlinear heterogeneous dynamic multiagent systems. It is assumed that each agent with an uncertain dynamic model has limited information about the main problem and limited access to the information of the state variables of the other agents. A distributed algorithm that guarantees cooperatively solving of the constrained optimization problem by the agents is proposed. Via applying this algorithm, the agents do not need to continuously broadcast their data. It is shown that the proposed algorithm can be useful in solving resource allocation problems. IEEE

Modeling of Oxygen Transport and Exchange in an Acinus

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mortazavi Ashkzari, Mohammad Sadegh (Author) ; Saeedi, Mohammad Saeed (Supervisor)
    Abstract
An acinus is defined as the complex of airways supplied by one first order respiratory or transitional bronchiole. In this part, the replenishment of oxygen at the alveolar surface occurs by a combination of convective air flow with diffusion of oxygen in the air. So for studying gas exchange in the lung, modeling gas species transport and exchange in an acinus is important. Due to lacking direct measurements of the distribution of oxygen (or carbon dioxide) concentration in the acinus, several mathematical models have been developed and studied by numerical simulations. But in none of them the influence of breathing pattern and the role of blood flow in restricting the gas exchange rate have...

    Electroosmotic Flow in Microchannels

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Lesani, Mostafa (Author) ; Saeedi, Mohammad Saeed (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The present study examines both Direct Current (DC) and Alternating Current (AC) electroosmotic flows in a parallel plate microchannel. The method consists of a central finite difference scheme for spatial terms and a forward difference scheme for the temporal term. Asymmetric boundary conditions are assumed for Poison-Boltzmann equation used to determine the electric double layer (EDL) potential distribution. The potential distribution is then used to evaluate the velocity distribution for both DC and AC electroosmotic flows. The velocity distributions are obtained by applying slip boundary conditions on the walls to account for probable hydrophobicity of the surfaces. After determining the...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Taheri, Masoud (Author) ; Seif, Mohammad Saeed (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In positioning and navigation, Sonar with utilization of sound waves in water environments is similar to the role of Radar in not watered (irrigated) environments. In the Sonar field, modeling and simulation of propagation of sound waves in the undersea environment is a fundamental and very important topic. Nowadays simulation is significant tool that allow to the researchers to predict the quality of Sonar function respect to the experimental conditions. For simulation and modeling of sound wave propagation are used two different methods; Wave theory and Ray theory. In the wave theory, because of the large volume of data, the interpretation of the results is hard. Also in this method cannot...

Numerical Modeling of Unsteady Partial Cavitaion over Axisymmetric Bodies Using Boundary Element Method

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Emami, Pedram (Author) ; Seif, Mohammad Saeed (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, the potential flow including unsteady partial cavitation around axisymmetric bodies are studied using a boundary element method (BEM) based on potential theory. For this purpose the wetted surface of the body and cavity surface are divided (approximated) to panels. Then, by applying the Green’s third identity and expressing this theory in potential flow around every surface, cavitation can be modeled by distributing the source and the dipole rings on cavity/body surface. In order to approaching this goal we introduced dipole rings distribution on the cavity and body surfaces and source rings distribution on the cavity surface. In this work the cavitation number is assumed to...

Modeling of Deposition of Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) in Carotid Artery

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mirbagheri, Amir (Author) ; Saeedi, Mohammad Saeed (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Atherosclerosis is one of the most important and common causes of death in the world. Atherosclerosis typically affects medium and large arteries in the body and it leads to plaque formation in arterial wall. The first stage of plaque formation has been related to accumulation of low density lipoproteins in arterial wall.
The purpose of this research is presenting a four-layer model to describe the LDL transport in the arterial wall. The endothelium, intima, internal elastic lamina (IEL) and media are all treated as macroscopically homogeneous porous media and the volume-averaged porous media equations are employed to model various layers. The physiological parameters within the various...

Performance Analysis of DS/TH CDMA Cognitive Radio System under Doubly-Selective Fading Scenario

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Naderi, Mohammad Saeed (Author) ; Mashhadi, Saeed (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Nowadays providing services beyond the expected performance of users has become the most competition among telecommunication companies. Increase data rate at which a user is able to use a wireless system, you know that most of these companies are competing with each other. However, due to limited power to be sent to a transmitter, the first proposal to increase the data rate of wireless data transmission has a wider bandwidth. This results in increased bandwidth demand and thus sales by the government. During these years, many researchers have tried to increase efficiency in the use of broadband transceiver. These systems due to the wide band signal transmission and high-resolution mass...
