Abstract
In the first part of this work, citric acid monomer was selected to produce dendrimer through the divergent method using logical conditions (for controlling its functional groups) on the base of poly (ethylene glycol) as the core. Triblock copolymers (ABA-type) of citric acid and poly (ethylene glycol) (PCA-PEG-PCA) as biocompatible compounds were synthesized in four different molecular weights and applied as nanocarriers. The structure definition of the molecules and nanoparticles were carried out using different spectroscopy methods. Diameter of the synthesized copolymers was investigated using dynamic light scattering (DLS) experiments and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and it was...
Field Investigation and Monitoring of Land Subsidence Beneath Power Transmission Lines in Saturated and Unsaturated Zone
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Sadeghi, Hamed (Supervisor)
Abstract
The increase in the amount of groundwater exploitation and climate changes has made land subsidence into one of the environmental problems and has caused many problems in various infrastructures such as urban areas, residential buildings, and vital arteries such as power transmission lines. Many areas of the country, especially areas with smooth topography such as plains where alluvium accumulates, due to excessive exploitation of groundwater resources and climate changes, are facing a decrease in the level of groundwater, an increase in the thickness of the unsaturated layer, and as a result, progressive subsidence. In particular, the destructive effects of land subsidence on power...

Abstract
This paper presents an offline path planning method in 3D space for a surveillance aerial vehicle. In this method, the aerial vehicle is supposed to visit particular points on the path, and the collision between the vehicle and the fixed obstacles in the environment must be avoided. In order to accomplish the mission, first, the path is generated using B-splines. Then, the feasibility of tracking the designed path for the vehicle is considered by analyzing the vehicle's dynamic constraints, such as limitations on deflections of control surfaces. The analysis is supported by a simulation. Potential extension of the proposed analysis to multiple aerial vehicles has been also discussed at the...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ghazizadeh Ehsaei, Ali (Supervisor) ; Ahmadi, Mohammad Mahdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
This research focuses on the development and implementation of a wireless power transfer system based on magnetic induction to power wireless neural recording devices in experiments where animals move freely in a cage. The main goal of this research is to reduce the weight of the recording devices by eliminating the battery and using wireless power transfer. By removing the battery and employing magnetic induction, the final weight of the device is minimized, eliminating the need for battery replacement or recharging, and reducing the negative impact of the device's weight on the natural activities of the test animals. Power transfer for wireless neural recording devices is achieved through...

Abstract
In this paper, the transient motion of an intelligent Pipe Inspection Gauge (PIG) while moving across anomalies inside a typical gas/oil pipeline has been investigated. The pipeline fluid has been considered as isothermal and compressible. In addition, the pipeline itself has also been considered to be flexible. The fluid continuity and momentum equations along with the 3D dynamic equations of motion of the pig comprise a system of coupled dynamic differential equations which have been solved numerically. Pig's position, orientation and velocity profiles as well as upstream and downstream fluid's pressure waves are presented as simulation results which provide a better understanding of the...

Abstract
Water and energy are the major factors in the new United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Sustainable conversion and management in the secure supply of increasing demand for water and electricity is a challenging concern. It is recently complicated due to economic development, population growth, resource depletion, and climate change, which requires a simultaneous progressive planning. Since energy and water systems are instinctively interdependent and mutually interacted (known as nexus), this paper employed an integrated solution-based method. A bottom-up optimization model is developed considering Water-Energy-Emission Nexus approach for both power and water sectors. The model...
An approach to defining tortuosity and cementation factor in carbonate reservoir rocks
, Article Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering ; Volume 60, Issue 2 , 2008 , Pages 125-131 ; 09204105 (ISSN) ; Javaherian, A ; Pishvaie, M. R ; Nabi Bidhendi, M ; Sharif University of Technology
2008
Abstract
Tortuosity and cementation factor are two critical parameters that significantly affect estimates of reservoir properties. Tortuosity factor can be used to estimate permeability using the Carman-Kozeny equation and is an important parameter for formation resistivity factor calculation using a modified version of Archie's formula. It is also used to predict water saturation of reservoir rocks. Tortuosity as an input parameter in Biot's equation can be used to estimate velocity dispersion. In this work, based on the Generalized Archie Equation Curve Fitting (GAECF), tortuosity and cementation factor are determined for selected intervals in a carbonate reservoir. Formation resistivity factor...

Abstract
Hybridization of conventional vehicles is considered an important step to achieve high fuel economy and low emissions. In this study, principle considerations involved in a hybridizing process are discussed and consequently, a sequential approach for designing hybrid components for both series and parallel configurations has been introduced. The so called approach has then been applied to one of the productions of Iran-Khodro Company called SAMAND. Having designed the hybrid components, the conventional SAMAND and its series and parallel hybrid configurations were defined and evaluated using the ADvanced VehIcle SimulatOR (ADVISOR) software. It is observed that compared to the conventional...

Abstract
In this study, with respect to previous projects, we focused on size reduction of hollow and endohedral fullerenes research reactors. For this reason, we set up two reactors having 1/2 and 3 liters volumes and then such parameters as pressure, reactor temperature, arc duration time, arc time interval and the working electrical current through the electrodes circuit, in both reactors were optimized. The reactors, 3- and 1/2-liter reactors were of types of horizontal and vertical, respectively. In this project spatial angle between two electrodes were also found as effective variable on fullerenes yield in the 3-liters arc reactor for the first time. We found that upon correction of the...

Abstract
This paper presents an application of the analytical hierarchy process and fuzzy analytical hierarchy process methods for selecting the best wastewater treatment process. The analytical hierarchy process is one of the best ways for deciding among the complex criteria structure in different levels, and the fuzzy analytical hierarchy process is a synthetic extension of the classical method when the fuzziness of the decision makers are considered. After reviewing aerobic treatment processes operated in Iran's industrial estates and determining the main criteria used for treatment process evaluation, they are arranged in a hierarchy structure. Selection of the best wastewater treatment process...

Abstract
With the stricter limitations on both fuel consumption and air pollution, the advantages of a hybrid electric vehicle are becoming more evident than ever. In the present study, an energy management system for a hybrid electric vehicle is developed. Because the plant under consideration is nonlinear, multi-domain, time-varying, has multiple uncertainties and, in addition, the designed control strategy must be able to obey the driver's commands and achieve the par-internship for a new generation of vehicle regulations, the fuzzy logic approach is chosen. A feed-forward hybrid vehicle simulation model is used to demonstrate the validity and the convenience of the current approach and its...

Construction of an Experimental Device for Foaming Agent and an Experimental Study of the Properties of Foaming Agent
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Bazargan, Mohammad (Supervisor)
Abstract
The primary purpose of acidizing operations in the oil and gas industry is to enhance hydrocarbon production. Acidizing has been a common and conventional method for years, especially when production engineers face issues like declining reservoir pressure leading to reduced production rates. Initially, the treatment solution is referred to as matrix acidizing. In acidizing operations, different additives are combined with the acid to control its behavior in the reservoir. These additives may include iron control agents, corrosion inhibitors, friction reducers, and more. Incompatibility among these additives, the acid, and reservoir fluids can lead to severe damage to the reservoir....

Abstract
The goal of this research is the simulation of the annular combustion chamber of the turbine engine utilized by liquid fuel. The achievement to this goal will lead to create numerical tools for parametric study, analysis and combustion chamber designing. For this reason simple geometry has been considered. This simplicity of geometry causes to facilitate in parametric study and decrease in saving time for modeling and meshing. This combustion chamber is a simplified model of engine CF6. In recent study, the k – ε realizable model has been used for turbulence modeling. For non-adiabatic condition, chemical reaction is dissolved by utilizing probability density function along with laminar...
A misbehavior‐tolerant multipath routing protocol for wireless Ad hoc networks [electronic resource]
, Article International Journal of Research in Wireless Systems (IJRWS) ; Vol. 2, Issue 9, pp. , Sep. 2013 ; Pakravan, Mohammad Reza ; Aref, Mohammad Reza ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
Secure routing is a major key to service maintenance in ad hoc networks. Ad hoc nature exposes the network to several types of node misbehavior or attacks. As a result of the resource limitations in such networks nodes may have a tendency to behave selfishly. Selfish behavior can have drastic impacts on network performance. We have proposed a Misbehavior-Tolerant Multipath Routing protocol (MTMR) which detects and punishes all types of misbehavior such as selfish behavior, wormhole, sinkhole and grey-hole attacks. The protocol utilizes a proactive approach to enforce cooperation. In addition, it uses a novel data redirection method to mitigate the impact of node misbehavior on network...

Abstract
During the last few years, the study of urban environment structures is considered as a research field of interest in remote sensing. In satellite observations of the earth's surface, continuous imaging in terms of time and space has caused the remote sensing technique to be proposed as a useful and efficient tool for the analysis of urban areas. Obtaining quantitative spatial information from the urban environment in fields such as determining the height of buildings plays an essential role in urban planning, monitoring damage to buildings, establishing communication bases and digital cities. During the last two decades, the use of Tomosar approach in order to reconstruct the structures of...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Vesal, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Rahmati, Mohammad Hossein (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this work, the dynamic competition between firms providing internet services is studied. The framework is Markov equilibrium whereby structural parameters are obtained using two-step estimations, allowing for analyzing the situation in case of subsidies for service upgrade. The results show that such subsidy has little effect on the number of firms while increasing the number of fast firms
