A study on Existing Economical-managerial Strategies for Life Extension/replacement of Aging Aircraft Structures
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Abedian, Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
As aircraft fleets get older, the challenge of Flight Safety gets greater. This Thesis focus on management strategies and principles to keep long-life fleet safe and effective into old age. But the safety and efficacy are not the only ones who are considered at long-life fleet. Here the question arises why the aircraft prior to exposure to the effects of rising life expectancy, are not replaced by other aircraft. The reason is the high cost of the replacement. Aircraft are expensive to design and manufacture. In commercial aviation, extreme competition and miniscule profit force pressures to delay replacement of older aircraft with expensive new types. But in Military aircraft reason for...
Investigating Conformal Vector Field on Riemannian Manifolds
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Fanai, Hamid Reza (Supervisor)
Abstract
At first the killing vector fields will be investigated. Conditions are introduced for the hypersurface of a Riemannian manifold with a killing vector field to be equipped with the same killing vector field. Then 2-killing vector field is studied and its relation with killing vector fields and monotone vector fields is presented. After that conformal vector fields are discussed and conditions are introduced in order that the Riemannian manifold equipped with a conformal vector field, isisometric to n-dimensional sphere with constant curvature. Finally we will present the conditions which conformal vector field is a 2-killing vector field. Then we will present the results in which the...
An Empirical Investigation of the Damping of Liquid Oscillations in Cylindrical Tanks with Vertical Baffles
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Dehghani Firouzabadi, Roohollah (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this study, an analytical investigation of the hydrodynamic damping due to vertical baffles in circular cylindrical storage tanks is investigated. A lot of research about damping characteristics of different types of baffles has been done but because of specific applications of vertical baffles, studies are limited in this case. For analytical approach the average rate of energy dissipation is obtained with using the solution of Laplace’s equation by estimation the rate of the work done by baffles drag force to the oscillatory flow. The analytical solution validate by a series of experiments that conducted at the Langley Research Center of the National Aeronautics and Space...
Efficient Data Aggregation in Mobile Wireless Sensor Networks
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Habibi, Jafar (Supervisor)
Abstract
Due to the advances in wireless communications and electronics over the last few years, the development of networks of low-cost, low-power, and multifunctional sensors has received increasing attention. Most important constraints of this network are energy and bandwidth. Data aggregation is one of the effective approaches for reducing energy consumption in wireless sensor networks. Recent research on data collection reveals that, rather than reporting data through long, multi-hop and error-prone routes to a static sink using tree or cluster network structure, allowing and leveraging sink mobility is more promising for energy efficient data gathering. In this work we proposed an effective...
